Inspirations Video Installations When we first set out to create and design a video installation I think as a group we were heavily influenced and inspired by David Halls work particularly ‘Progressive Recession’ as we enjoyed this live interactive experience that forced the audience to interact and engage. So we decided to create a live video installation feed where we could interact with our audience and create a mystery for them to solve which was ‘How did we do it?’, and that is similar to the mystery Hall created with ‘Progressive Recession’ where we the audience had to figure out what camera was linked to what screen. The most interesting thing was creating an atmosphere where the audience has to interact and participate in the experiment, which made the video art fun as everyone that visited the exhibition participated. Our prerecorded ‘The Virtual Congregation’ video art with a multicam set up that recorded a meeting between 3 friends was partly influenced by Hall’s ‘1001 tv sets’ because we stole the idea where people went around and looked at multiple different screens of content that was mostly pre recorded however our video art was slightly different compared to ‘1001 tv sets’ as it had an aspect of a live feed in it because the stuff in ‘1001 tv sets’ was broadcast live where ours was not. Our ‘Virtual Congregation’ was also partly based on ‘Still live’ as it retained one set shot and the camera was static, it also showed changes over time which are video art did because the start of the meeting was different to the outcome at the end.
