Shayna’s Shoutout
Kids Kloset —By Shayna Salomon
Hey guys, I’m back with an awesome trendsetter who really values fashion and everything that has to do with fashion. She has always expressed her creativity through her clothing and takes complete pride in everything she wears. “Fashion is the closest thing we have to magic, it’s an art form that not enough people realize is essential to our society.” She found her true love when she went to work with her aunt and realized you can get a job in this industry. A few years back she had a small Instagram blog on Instagram about fashion. Fashion has been a huge part of her life and she never gives up an opportunity to wear a cool new look. She has no one style because she likes to go out and find new and different things. Although she does follow social media and YouTube channels, she really is the trendsetter that many of her friends follow for cool fashion ideas and advice. Maria Drametenos, a young girl from Long Island shares her love and passion for fashion!!
Hope you Enjoy! All my love, Shayna Salomon
40 | It’s a Kidsworld
Maria Drametenos Age: 17 Long Island, NY
Would you prefer to wear summer outfits or winter outfits? Winter outfits because you get to play with layering and you can be more experimental. How long does it take to plan an outfit that you would wear during the day during summer? Probably an average of 10 minutes. What and who is your inspiration for your style? I’m inspired by films, music, popular trends, social media, and my favorite time periods which are the 60, 70s, and 90s. The music that influences my style the most is alternative, indie, classic rock, rap, and French music. Do you read or watch anything fashion related to know what is in style? I watch Haute Lemode on YouTube and he does videos on what’s going on in the fashion industry. I also follow the Business Of Fashion, all the vogue accounts, and Made 2 Measure because they post all the fashion shows.
Do you consider yourself a trendsetter? I would say I’m both a trendsetter and a follower. I do like to go beyond the trends and find my own way of wearing it. And the people around me do get influenced by what I wear and copy it. Do you wear jewelry with any or all of your outfits? I wear jewelry with almost all my outfits! I’m currently really into my small gold hoop earrings, small gold necklaces I can stack, and large black clips to clip my side bangs back. What is your favorite store to shop at and why? I would not say I have a favorite. But I like Zara, Princess Polly, Brandy Melville, and Urban Outfitters. I like Brandy because I can get my basics. Like white T-shirts and simple tops and cardigan etc. Zara has great knock off pieces of high-end clothing and Princess Polly carries fantastic dresses for summer that literally saved my life when it’s 1,000,000° out. Urban outfitters has basically everything there so I’ll go there
“Make sure everyday you decide who you’re going to be, not what other people want you to be.” if I want pretty much anything. Topshop and Urban Outfitters is where I get most of my jeans from. I’m a big jean person! Love them! How often do you go shopping? I go shopping three times every season. My shopping cart could have 20 items or 3 there is no in-between. I do most of my shopping online. How would you describe your style? My style is not one thing. I could be in a sundress one day and the next day I’ll be in be in a band tee and leather jacket. Each season it changes depending on what music I’m listening to and what I’m influenced by. Do your shoes determine your outfit choice or do you plan your outfits and chose the shoes later? I choose my shoes later. I’m not a huge shoe shopper. Do any of your friends inspire you for your fashion choices? Not really. I’m very individualistic.
Do you have a special outfit that you like to wear all the time? No. I often repeat my clothes but never an outfit. I like to mix and match my clothes to expand my closet. But nothing is better then a white tee and good pair of jeans to be honest. Does your outfits change from the weekends to the weekdays? No not really. It depends on my plans that week. When you go out do you wear nicer clothing and try harder with your ou t f it choices or do you just throw on whatever you see? I always try and create a new look every time I go out. I like to put a lot of thought into what I wear always. What is your go to outfit? Good pair of jeans and a band tee. Paired with my Sam Smith Adidas. Have you ever been to a fashion show before? No but I wish! How do you save your money to make sure you always get the newest line of clothes? I babysit every week and I usually look for sales. Has your style changed increasingly over the years? Yes! Very much! Over the summer I dress much more feminine. When it’s hot I’m always in dresses and pastel colors. In the winter and fall season I dress more edgy, more experimental with my clothes, and usually I’m in black. What is something that you think will never go out of style? I will give a basic answer but it’s the dry truth. A basic good fitting white tee. It’s the one thing in my
closet that never leaves and is always so essential every season. Do you like to wear only namebrand clothing or will you wear anything? I will wear anything. For me fashion is not about saying I’m wearing this designer. It’s about how I the outfit together. Do you think the new trends differ from East to West Coast? No. I think because of social media the trends are spread throughout the country. Weather does determine how each styles these trends but for the most part I find them to be similar. What is the trendiest style right now? To be honest I have no clue. There are so many styles I love and so many ways to wear clothing. I’m always finding new trends that I love. What advice can you give other stylish people like you? My best advice would be dress for you. Wear what makes you truly feel like your most beautiful self. Picking out your outfit for the day is your first decision to who you’re gonna be that day. Make sure everyday you decide who you’re going to be, not what other people want you to be.
