Thenutzine is currently a photo album with the adventures of a group of people around Greece. It is focused on surfing and all the potential there is on the rough Greek coastline, which is 16.000 km by the way, if you didn’t know. Our purpose is to share with you all the beauties and the “hidden” treasures that we discover during our expeditions, whenever we are not behind screens. Magazines will never be the same one with each other; It so closely linked with photography which is by all means unique. Putting ourselves from the readers perspective, we would like to have on our library a zine with our unique contemporary aesthetic, beautiful images of surf spots and locations that bring memories and motivation for all this places that we will surf one day.

Our goal is to become “real” - meaning, having a physical presence in many ways, starting from paper which we appreciate, but we ‘ve missed it a lot since we are so heavily into the digital era and moving on with other mediums that create a holistic experience of all the things that NutZine represents. We want to discover Greece deeper and surf new, more isolated, virgin places. We also want to explore the local cultures of all these spots we surf in an effort to showcase their heritage, their traditions, the local peoples stories and their routine on that time of the year where tourism is absent, but we are there! Last but not least, we want some help to make it better... ENJOY!

This is probably one of the best surf sessions that took place in Greece during the last 3 years and one of the most remarkable adventures we have ever lived. It was early November on 2015 and the forecast looked a desent NortheWest swell to surf for the weekend. We packed, we did all the way to the spot and we arrived. The first view was the reef at Kalo Nero, which was pumping like crazy and some early birds were riding the waves of the day. The sets were 6 to 7 feet, the wave period was around 12 seconds, warm and sunny weather and the right “quantity” of offshore wind.

As we called ourselves as Greek surfers, for some of us was a bit uncomfortable. While the time was passing, the waves were becoming bigger; so until the time we decided to check other, more friendly spots, the sets at Kalo Nero were 9 -11 feet big (Fun enough for Hawaian surfers). So, Kiparisias’ port looked like a good choise with the waves to be like 5-7 feet with the wind still offshore. Except that the water was smellling like shit, everything was ideally and we had tones of fun for the rest of the day. 16

The next day, after we checked Lagouvardos, we decided to head over at Kalo Nero, again, where the swell was more user friendly. We did it to the line up and it was fun indeed, but a cutback didn’t look that fun and my anckle broke that easy like a toothpick. Meanwhile, Mr. Yannis (Psilianos) who was surfing on the next break, he cut his ankle and six stiches was the deal with the doctor. 17

TINOS Rock Saphire (kritamos) and sundried tomatoes. Bright white, round houses and colourful upcycled pots. The land where modern sculpturing took birth, the land where the “meltemi” wind makes its first rough appearance. An artistic liberation integrated into a dry, breathtaking location surrounded by blue waters and captivating religious sounds. Above all, the sun rules, making his presence with an unavoidable energy hard to explain, impossible not to feel, pure magic. Maybe that’s the generator for these short distant swells it’s blessed with.

EVIA High mountains, alpine forests and low temperatures acting as protective walls and as one of the lungs of Attica. An altitude of 3000 meters falling into the raging Aegen sea, where the north winds, the waves and the green reflections all meet together into a rough, astonishing, versatile environment. It’s an island, a very strange one and its wave patterns are even stranger. 44

PELOPONNESE Smell of fresh dirt, olives, watermelons and salty sea. Long stretching, sandy beaches, secret bays along a rough coastline co-existing next to rivers of water earlier fallen from green waterfalls. A constant fight between the sun, trying to preserve its fruitful kingdom and bizarre weather patterns with fearless storms anticipating to burst all the way during their journey from the strait of Gibraltar. The waves are welcomed by an ideal coastline offering pleasures and occasional disasters.

CRETE A continuous smell of tomatoes, olive oil, thyme and old stories. Portraits of strength ready to defend once again their holy land. Horror stories in high, snowy mountains, brotherhood, love and hate, deep canyons accommodating rivers and hermits. A land surrounded by tropical waters, long travelled waves, a final destination in the Greek map, just a few miles from a turbulent Middle East; natural boarders of religions, cultures, civilisations and waves.

That time, on a pumping day, when you are in the right place at the right time, after the storm, when the sun is coming out and is that much bright where everything is just GOLD; that time nobody can understand the feeling of being at the line up.

Blurred lines, blurred surfers, blurred landscapes, sharp action!! Shooting with f/32, 1/8 sec & ISO 400 on my camera was a good idea, judging the result. I think that i really like the noise and the dirty spots on my lens ,because it gives the sense of a film! I like that style of photography, because you give more action and more energy on the photo, with a simple click to look much better, more special!
