DIRECTIONS TO CAMPUS
Approaching Flint from North or South Exit I-75/US-23 onto I-69 East and follow directions from the East. Highway I-69 East Exit I-69 onto Hammerberg Road (exit 135). Turn Left (North) onto Hammerberg Road. Merge into the right lane. Go straight through the first traffic light, and then merge right onto Miller Road. Continue straight (North) at first light which will turn into Fox Street. Continue straight (North) at second light which will turn into Chevrolet Avenue. Turn left (West) into Kettering University’s Campus Center driveway. This is the last driveway on the left before the University Avenue traffic light. Please park in a parking space reserved with lime green parking cone. Highway I-69 West Exit I-69 onto Hammerberg Road (exit 135). Turn Right (North) onto Hammerberg Road staying in the right lane. Just before the next traffic light merge right onto Miller Road. Continue straight (North) at first light which will turn into Fox Street. Continue straight (North) at second light which will turn into Chevrolet Avenue.
ARRIVING ON CAMPUS Park as close to the residence hall as possible for ease in unloading your vehicle. Enter the residence hall on the 2nd level at the main double doors to get your keys and room assignment.
If you need shuttle service from Flint Bishop Airport, the bus station in Flint, the train station in Flint or hotels in Flint to Kettering, please call the office of Student Life at (800) 955-4464 x9871 to make arrangements. Please note, you are responsible for transportation from Detroit Metro/City Airports. (This is a one-time service offered to new students.)

MATH PLACEMENT EXAM MATH PLACEMENT EXAM The Mathematics Placement (MP) Examination is for new freshmen and new transfer students entering Kettering University. University policy states that all entering students who have not received transfer credit or Advanced Placement credit for the first calculus course, MATH-101, are required to take the MP Exam. Your AP Exam score will always take precedence over the MP Exam score. A student’s score on the MP Exam is the most direct and effective indicator of the student’s math skills. The placement examination has one goal: to place the student in the course which best matches the student's university major and mathematics skill level. NOTE 1: The MP Exam will be activated for new students once they have paid their $300 enrollment deposit to Kettering University. NOTE 2: Your score on the MP Exam will not affect the status of your admission to Kettering University. The MP Examination is administered on-line, prior to the start of your 1st term at Kettering. The MP Exam may be taken at most, twice. If you neglect to take the MP Exam, and you do not have Calculus I credits, you’ll be placed into MATH-100 - College Mathematics (Pre-Calculus). DETAILED INFORMATION Residence Hall Networking Our Residence Hall has a fully functional network. Each room is equipped with a connection for voice (phone), video (cable TV), and data (internet access). All students living in the Residence Hall will need to provide their own phone. Those wishing to access the computer network will need to have Ethernet cards in their computers with an RJ45 jack or "TP" designation. Cable TV is provided for those with TV's and a standard type F coaxial cable. When dialing from Thompson Hall you must dial 6 to get an outside line. To dial an on-campus telephone number, just dial the last four numbers. You must use a phone card with an 800 area code for long-distance calling. Banking A 24-hour ATM machine located in the Campus Center is directly affiliated with Chase Bank, and nationally with Cirrus, Plus and Magic Line. Cashier There is a Cashier's Office on campus. During operating hours the Cashier will: - cash personal checks ($150 or less) - collect payments for fines or miscellaneous charges to Kettering - reimburse petty cash requests ($200 or less) Books You are expected to purchase books for all of your classes at an approximate cost of $300-$600 per term. The bookstore offers all you need, including used books. Talk to upperclassmen; you can often save large amounts by buying used books from them. It is recommended by the bookstore that you go to your first class and let the professor confirm what books will be needed before you purchase them. The bookstore is on the 2nd floor of the campus center. Calculators A TI 84 or above is recommended. Computer Labs There are computer labs in the Academic Building and on the 3rd and 4th floors of the residence hall. Most are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
DETAILED INFORMATION Health Insurance Kettering University requires that all students carry health insurance coverage. New students entering Kettering in Winter 2013 must submit evidence of health insurance to the Wellness Center, no later than January 31, 2013. Kettering University, through Chartis Educational Markets, Inc., will verify all coverage. Note the following: If you have your own health insurance coverage, submit a photocopy of both sides of your insurance card to the Wellness Center no later than Thursday, January 31, 2013. You may submit this information in person (the Wellness Center is located on the first floor of the Campus Center), by mail (1700 University Avenue, Flint, MI 48504-6214), or via email (wellness@kettering.edu). Failure to submit evidence of health insurance by the deadline will automatically enroll you in Kettering’s Accident & Sickness Insurance Plan at a cost of $606.00 for coverage from January 1, 2013 through June 30, 2013. The coverage expense will be charged to your student account. If you do not have your own health insurance coverage, or wish to purchase ours, you need not take any action. You will automatically be enrolled in Kettering’s Accident & Sickness Insurance Plan, provided by Chartis, and your student account will be charged $606.00 for coverage from January 1, 2013 through June 30, 2013. The University’s health insurance coverage meets all the requirements stipulated by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services for compliance with the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Any student who fails to provide evidence of health insurance by the Thursday, January 31, 2013 deadline will be charged $606.00 and insured in the Kettering Sickness and Accident Plan offered through Chartis for the period January 1, 2013 through June 30, 2013, regardless of other health coverage. Under no circumstance will the University reverse the $606.00 insurance charge for students who fail to submit evidence of health insurance coverage by the 1/31/13 deadline. Sodexo Campus Food Service Your food-service contract includes 15 meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) Monday through Friday in the Sunrise Dining Room , brunch and dinner on the weekends and a $50 added bonus to use in the Sunset Retail Dining Lounge. You may also choose to select option 2 which is 14 meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) Monday through Friday and $125 added bonus. There is no food service during long holiday weekends. You can make arrangements with Sodexo for food during closed periods at an additional cost.

Tutoring is available! Student Academic Resource Center Don’t wait until it is too late! Tutoring is available in the Student Academic Resource Center in 3-342 in the Academic building. The center is staffed by Kettering’s top students and open about 60 hours a week. Residence Hall Tutors There are tutors available in the residence hall on the first floor. Check with your RA for contact information.
Vehicle Registration All vehicles must be registered and display a parking permit. To obtain a permit, visit https://aimsweb.kettering.edu/. Your permit can be picked up at Campus Safety in the Student Life Office, 3-110 CC.
Campus Safety Campus Safety is a service organization which exists for the protection of the campus community. Safety Officers are on duty around the clock. Services provided are: locking and unlocking campus buildings and rooms; jump starting vehicles with dead batteries; responding to campus emergencies; foot and motor patrol; and enforcing parking regulations. An escort service within one mile of campus is also provided by Campus Safety by calling 762-9501 or stopping by the Campus Safety Desk in the Campus Center.
I.D. Cards All students are required to have a picture I.D. The I.D. card is necessary for entering all campus buildings, checking out items from the library, obtaining dining services and cashing personal checks. Replacement of a lost I.D. card is $20. Pictures will be taken during orientation.
Schedules Class schedules for first-time students are prepared for you by Academic Services following all math placement exam results and are verified by the registrar during orientation. Registration for following terms will be completed by the student after academic advisement. Information on the process will be provided to you around the middle of your first term.
