Please join us for performances within the beautiful setting of the Kettle’s Yard house, amongst great works of 20th century modern art. New for 2015 will be concerts which respond to gallery exhibitions; Beauty and Revolution: The Poetry and Art of Ian Hamilton Finlay, and New Rhythms: Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, Art, Dance and Movement in London 1911–1915. This year we welcome a new programmer for our New Music series, Kate Whitley who is a composer, musician and creator of the extraordinary ‘Multi-Story Orchestra’. Her programme features premieres of new commissions, dance, and DJ sets. Justin Lee, in his second year as programmer of the Chamber series, has created another distinctive series featuring some of the stars of chamber music. Our free lunchtime concert series also continues with performances by talented Cambridge University students.

Mark-Anthony Turnage: Slide Stride for piano and string quartet, Stravinsky: Three Pieces for string quartet, Richard Causton: Piano Quintet (Kettle’s Yard Commission), Shostakovich: Piano Quintet.

Shiva Feshareki portrait concert Thursday 22 January A new commission by Shiva Feshareki, whose music has been described as “exuberantly irreverent”, The Times, in response to The Poetry and Art of Ian Hamilton Finlay, as well as a showcase of her works for ensemble and turntables.

Kafka Fragments Aisha Orazbayeva, violin   & Lore Lixenberg, mezzo-soprano Thursday 19 February “profoundly radical and inventive”, The Sound Projector. The duo of internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Lore Lixenberg and upcoming violinist Aisha Orazbayeva perform György Kurtág’s masterpiece Kafka Fragments – 40 tiny pieces based on writings by Franz Kafka.

New Rhythms Thursday 12 March The premiere of a newly commissioned dance and music work by choreographer Malgorzata Dzierzon and composer Kate Whitley, in response to New Rhythms: Henri Gaudier-Brzeska.

The Multi-Story Orchestra The Michael Harrison Concert Thursday 23 April “forget fusty concert halls, the future of music is emerging in a municipal car park”, The Times. Works including Grisey’s seminal Periodes from Les Espaces Acoustiques performed by The Multi-Story Orchestra, who are based in a disused car park in Peckham, conducted by Christopher Stark.

Ghosts and Mirrors Thursday 28 May Recital by up and coming star of contem­porary piano Richard Uttley, including Lindberg’s Piano Jubilees, Thomas Adès’ Mazurkas, a new work by Matthew Kaner, and Day Break Shadows Flee by the recently appointed Master of the Queens’ Music Judith Weir.

Lucy Landymore recital Thursday 11 June Solo percussion recital by Cambridge born Lucy Landymore, winner of 2010 BBC Young Musician of the Year Percussion section, including the notorious ‘The Black Page’ by Frank Zappa.

Most Fridays in term time there are free lunchtime concerts performed by students from the University of Cambridge, offering a great opportunity to see some of the rising stars of music in Cambridge.

New Rhythms: Henri Gaudier-Brzeska Art, Dance and Movement in   London 1911–1915 Tuesday 17 March –   Sunday 21 June 2015 Exploring the French sculptor Henri Gaudier-Brzeska’s engagement with dance, the exhibition will also include work by Wyndham Lewis, William Roberts, David Bomberg and Auguste Rodin.

Getting here There are regular buses from the train station into the town centre and Kettle’s Yard is a short walk from the centre, just over Magdalene Bridge and next to the Museum of Cambridge. By road: from South, M11 exit at junction 13. From North, from A14 take the A1307 to Castle Street. Parking is limited, we recommend the Park & Ride service. The nearest car park is Park Street car park.
