Exercise Compassion

HERE’S OUR STORY:

KERRVILLE KROC CENTER In

1998, Mrs. Joan Kroc, widow of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc, donated $90 million to The Salvation Army to build a comprehensive community center in San Diego, California. Her goal was to create a center, supported in part by the community, where children and families would be exposed to different people, activities and arts that would otherwise be beyond their reach. When Mrs. Kroc passed away in October 2003, she left $1.5 billion - much of her estate - to The Salvation Army. The gift was specifically designated to build a series of state-of-the-art Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Centers nationwide, patterned after the San Diego center. This year, a total of 27 centers will be finished nationwide, completing the 10 year construction project. Kerrville’s Kroc Center opened its doors in November of 2010, and is the only center in Texas. Operating costs for the center are funded by sales of memberships, rentals, and events. Donations made to The Salvation Army continue to solely fund Social Service programs and outreach.

Meet Our Kroc Stars

“I used to wear a 4XL before I took my first Fit4-Life class. I have since lost 92 pounds, and it is such a contrast. Before enrolling in Fit-4-Life I would just come to the Kroc Center and ride the bike for a few minutes, but then I spoke with Lance and Michelle and they got me in the program. The exercise has been so great for me—my confidence has grown Elissa York and I have started driving Lost 92 pounds after 10 years of not. These people have become my family, and they have encouraged me to reach my goals. This is a program I whole-heartedly believe in.” “I joined Fit-4-Life four months ago, and the one thing it did was create a great habit of getting into the gym. My cholesterol is down, and I have twice the strength and balance in my legs. My overall Don Short health is in a lot better shape due to Fit-4-Life. Before I joined Fit-4-Life, I had attended Bible Study at the Kroc Center, but this program really grew into something special and now there are about three or four guys who all work out and then we drink coffee together afterward—there is great fellowship here. I have since referred a couple of people I know to the Fit-4-Life program. 10
