The former NewBridge Bank branch at 230 East Mountain Street is now First National Bank.

Novant Health Smith Crossing Medical Plaza is under construction at 1471 Jag Branch Blvd. The new facility will include primary, pediatric and neurological care.

A memorial to those in public services who have lost their lives on the job was dedicated at Fourth of July Park on September 11, 2016.

Earlier this year, Forsyth County unveiled architectural renderings for the new library along Harmon Lane. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held in the near future.

tachi’s expansion, the VA health care center and Novant,” Hatling said. “We’re also fortunate that projects like Caleb’s Creek and Welden weathered the economic storm. They weathered through the recession and are now going strong.” Hatling said that if construction stays on track at the

current rate, Kernersville can expect to see between 3,000 and 4,000 housing units developed here over the next 10 years. Commercial property in Kernersville also saw expansion. One of the more visible projects has been the Pope Companies construction of a new 47,000-sq. ft. facility

along Hwy. 66 South in the South Park Business Center. Triad Business Park is also preparing for its phase 2 of development, which will include extending Old Greensboro Road to Bunker Hill Road, Hatling said. “That opens up the eastern end, which opens them up to future development,”

Hatling explained. Hatling said that planning regarding economic growth has been a key factor in Kernersville’s success, especially where it concerns commercial development. “The successful implementation of Kernersville’s Land use Plan allowed commercial growth to be strate-

gically concentrated within commercial pockets, whereas many other communities allowed unplanned disbursement of commercial developments, thus causing decline of many of their commercial areas,” he points out in a recent economic report. Even older spaces are being redeveloped, Hatling

said. Some of those include sites like the former nightclub on Hwy. 66 South and the Countryside Lanes bowling alley, both of which are being redeveloped as churches. “We’ve had a record number of buildings to new uses,” he said.
