Kate Clements creates works in glass that constantly push the boundaries of the use of glass. The artist’s sculptural works and installations are created at a scale rarely considered in Studio Glass. After creating a body of work that explored the fragility of memories in very large installations of kiln fused glass the artist has decided with this latest body of work to explore design traditions that have defined and reflected our fraught relationship with Nature. The work continues to have a nostalgic quality and a historicism that describes a world that is gone, and an aesthetic nearly forgotten. Clements is first and foremost a conceptual artist. Although organic in quality, the artist’s work is not intuitively created but are the result of a considered process that reveals itself slowly. Many of the artist’s projects are based on small, modular objects that are lent a monumental quality by means of repetition or embellishment. The artist is an original thinker, and this is shown in the quality and diversity of the artist’s projects. Kate Clements works in a decorative medium, Studio Glass, but creates works steeped in the rigors of conceptualism. Ken Saunders Gallery is proud to present our 2nd solo exhibition of new works by the artist. Ken Saunders, 2022
