The Shoah of europe's most ancient Jewish community, that of Thessaloniki and the unknown story of rescue - only 60 km south of Thessaloniki - of the Katerini Jews, Greece's smallest Jewish community at the time. Historic memory and its destruction, collective trauma and the construction of the official version of events as well as stereotypes and prejudices are issues dealt with by the documentary. In addition to personal testimonies, the film is rich with interviews of renowned historians including Steven B. Bowman, Kathryn e. Fleming, Rena Molho, Stratos Dordanas, Maria Kavala, Paris Papamichos-Chronakis.
THe DIReCToR: Fofo Terzidou studied Philosophy in Thessaloniki, and directing at the FAMU Academy in Prague and at the American Film Institute, Los Angeles. She has taught filmmaking at the School of Film Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Among her other film collaborations she worked as an assistant director to Theo Angelopoulos in the film "An eternity and a Day",1998. She writes scripts and teaches creative writing. She has directed several short films. This is her first feature documentary.
