For over 20 years...

The Bristol Renaissance Faire has been captivating visitors with an incomparable spectrum of experiences, from unabashed revelry to first rate people-watching. For those who want to check their inhibitions at the gate, there’s ample opportunity to whoop and holler at jousting knights, get down and dirty with raucous, earth-clad mud beggars or hurl a ripe tomato at a blustering braggart. Those inclined toward more serene pursuits will find a comparable bounty of enjoyments, from watching glass-blowers create one-of-a-kind works of art, to joining in a round of 16th Century court dancing or listening to the dulcet tones of world-class musicians. Whatever your passion, we invite you to take a break from the 21st Century and join in the revelry of the summer day in 1574 when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth visited the English hamlet of Bristol!

Welcome to the Royal Mews

T

he Bristol Renaissance Faire offers excitement and enchantment for animal lovers this summer. Our Pony Rides, Petting Zoo and Elephants have long been Faire favorites, but Bristol’s animal kingdom just got even bigger with the debut of the Royal Mews. “A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse,” Shakespeare famously attributed to Richard III. Monarchs through time have prized animals, but Queen Elizabeth I was especially renowned for her love of them. Her private stable, home to horses, hounds and hawks, was called the Royal Mews. That tradition continues to this day – Queen Elizabeth II has her own Royal Mews at England’s Buckingham Palace. Bristol’s Royal Mews offers visitors the opportunity to see the Hanlon-Lees Action Theatre perform three thrilling jousts in a new tiltyard. Aspiring

jousters can visit Past Knights, Futures Heroes to pose on a replica steed. Laura Amandis returns with Spirit of the Stallion, working hands-free with two horses; Ray Pena, Master Falconer, flies his amazing raptors high above the Mews; and Age of Equus showcases handmade tack and a diverse selection of equine wares for horse lovers of all ages. Completing the Royal Mews is Dream Hayven Farm, whose lovely stable houses horses both magical and magnificent. Enter the ivory tent to have your picture taken with Kira, a truly legendary creature, then watch Dream Hayven’s stunning imported British Fell pony, Littletree Bodini, shine in the Parade. What happens when a horse, a Queen, and a unicorn meet? Attend the Royal Joust at three o’clock to find out…

Special shows will include Punch & Judy, Pirate & Princess Story Time, The Chantyman Variety Show, and the Hawser brothers return with two Cutlass Cooking shows. Among

fter crashing their ship, The Broken Oar, into the middle of Bristol, a swarm of Privateers has taken over the enclosed play area known as Kids Kingdom. Leaving no time for delay, Captain McMeeny, with the help of the brave lads and lasses of the Kingdom, will need to scurry to straighten up before the Queen’s visit. Always entertaining and engaging, Bristol’s Kids Kingdom will be brimming with a colorful array of new characters this summer, from Irish Captain

’Tis Goode to be a Child in Bristol the most highly anticipated happenings of the day, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth visits Kids Kingdom for a 5 p.m. Knighting Ceremony, bestowing knighthood and ladyship upon all waiting children. Other perennially popular Kids Kingdom attractions include the daily treasure hunt and a slew of fun and games. Beyond the walls of Kids Kingdom, a bounty of family-friendly pastimes await children and their parents. Scattered throughout the Faire are nearly 30 rides

and games, ranging from the Butterfly Ride for the littlest kids or the Pirate’s Assault Catapult and Bungee Jump for older thrill seekers. In keeping with the Renaissance time period, all of Bristol’s rides are “muscle powered, with no electrical, gas or motorized systems. Children may also enjoy encounters with the Queen’s Courtiers in the Nobles Glade, Teatime with Lady Ettie, Kiddie Pike Drills with the Guilde of St. Michael, and discovering Fantastikal fairies and sprites near the Dirty

Duck Inn. Often elusive to adult eyes, the Fantastikals specifically seek out children for magical play. Popular stage shows such as the comedy sword-fighting duo of Dirk and Guido: The Swordsmen, rope-walker/juggler MooNiE the Magnif’Cent, and the Barely Balanced acrobatic troupe offer 100 percent family-friendly entertainment. More mature fare includes PG13 signs posted on marquees to help families make informed entertainment selections.
