PRESS RELEASE The Rink at Burlington Creek is Now Open KANSAS CITY, MO, NOVEMBER 27, 2012: The highly anticipated new outdoor ice rink at The Village of Burlington Creek is now open. KCIce opened doors this past holiday weekend to the community and was warmly welcomed by all. The rink was scheduled to open November 16th but was on hiatus due to unusual warm weather. “The conditions have been brutal in getting the ice to freezing temperatures,” said Lance Kirby, Operations Manager of KCICE. “The warmer temperatures during the day and night, the direct sunlight and the wind all hindered the development of the ice. But, through the relentless efforts of the entire team, we are very excited about overcoming the odds and opening tomorrow!” The Rink at Burlington Creek is located just off I‐29 and NW 64th Street in Kansas City’s northland. The new rink is the result of a collaborative effort between KCICE, The Village at Burlington Creek and NorthPoint Development. NorthPoint Development acquired The Village at Burlington Creek, formerly known as the Tuileries Plaza, earlier this year and is active in reviving the area with more neighborhood retail, destination dining, high‐end apartments and service‐based businesses. The Village at Burlington Creek boasts convenient amenities to support a growing business community. “We are very excited to share this fine amenity with the community. Two twelve foot long stone fire pits will become a popular place for patrons to gather while watching the skaters on the ice,” comment Nathaniel Hagedorn, President and CEO of NorthPoint Development. “It’s been exciting watching the rink develop and we anticipate large crowds to enjoy the area all yearlong with the addition of sand volleyball in the spring.” The installation of the stainless steel railings and plexiglass dasher boards is scheduled the 10th of December. KCICE is an organization established by a group of business, hockey, and civic professionals, whose mission is to promote recreational activities and ice based sports generated from new ice facilities. Their goal is to provide a unique family experience by offering an exclusive atmosphere with quality amenities. Ken Morrow, President of KCICE, is a member of the 1980 US Olympic ‘Miracle on Ice’ team and 4‐Time Stanley Cup Champion who continually shows his passion for the sport through various outreach programs. “Our mission is to promote and grow ice based sports,” said Morrow. “With the addition of the new outdoor rink in The Village of Burlington Creek, we provide a vehicle, generating revenue, to help support ice based sports and local charities while offering all families an opportunity to experience the joy of ice skating.” Ken works alongside Paul McGannon, Vice President of KCICE and founder of NHL21, Inc., who has a long‐standing reputation within the hockey community cultivating Kansas City for the National Hockey League.
