Humility
The angel
Jesus stepped down off his throne in Heaven to take on a physical body and walk in a world which He had created and we had ruined with sin. Not only did he become flesh, but he took the position as a servant. (Philippians 2:6-7)
The angel Gabriel comes to Mary while she is engaged to Joseph and gives her the good news (Luke 1:26-38)
The census
A decree is put out that a census was to be taken and that everyone was to return to the hometown of their ancestors to register. Joseph was a descendant of David whose hometown was Bethlehem. This was in accordance of God’s plan that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. (Luke 2:1-7, Micah 5:2)
Obedience
Jesus submitted his life to God the Father and ultimately carried out the plan for redemption on the cross (Philippians 2:8-11)
The shepherds
An angel appeared to some shepherds near Bethlehem and let them know that the Messiah had been born and that they could find Him in a manger wrapped in cloth. The shepherds went and saw Jesus and then went and proclaimed who he was to the city. (Luke 2:8-20)
The Magi
Some Magi from the East saw the star that led them to Jerusalem where they asked King Herod where the newborn king of the Jews was. Because he wanted to kill Jesus, Herod sent the magi to find him and report back to him where he was. The star guided them to Bethlehem where they found and worshipped Jesus. (Matthew 2:1-11)

The massacre
The Lord warned the Magi in a dream about Herod’s intentions and they did not report back to him. As a result, Herod had all the male children 2 years and younger in Bethlehem killed. After being warned by an angel, Mary and Joseph go stay in Egypt for a while to stay safe, then when Herod dies the eventually settle in Nazareth. (Matthew 2:13-23)
