Fort Lauderdale’s Downtown, New River and Intracoastal Waterway turns into a Floating Broadway Production along the 12 mile Parade route. On Saturday, December 9th, kayaks, fishing boats, barges and mega yachts bring the holiday season to South Florida with the 2017 Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest® Boat Parade!

Winterfest® is a 501(c)4 not-forprofit organization which functions through the generous support of our partners, especially our title sponsor - Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Without these great organizations and individuals, we could not put together an event of this magnitude. With over 1 million attendees watching the Parade via land, and water , it is considered “The World’s Most Watched Boat Parade.” A tradition for 46 years, Winterfest® captivates the lights, music and holiday cheer. The organization consists of a dynamic board of 50 individuals dedicated to this community event, more than 300 volunteers, over 70 private boaters, interns and a devoted full time staff of three. The Parade is our signature event but we have many more offerings for all ages. Broadway themed video walls and a splash of ocean add to the white hot glitz of this year’s Winterfest® kick-off celebration. Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa hosts the Gray Robinson, P.A. Winterfest® White Party. Guests are greeted with a specialty cocktail from Deep Eddy Vodka and flowing bubbly from Champagne Taittinger. Guests of this exclusive event are the first to preview the 2017 media campaign and the unveiling of the official poster created by local artist and the voice of the historic Stranahan House - April Renee Kirk. Coastal Restaurant at the Atlantic Hotel was the featured restaurant along with culinary creations from Anthony’s Runway 84, Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, Sea Level, 3030 Ocean, Grille 401, Timpano, Truluck’s and desserts from Coccodots Cake Shop and Joji Yogurt. The Event Luxe Lounge was a huge hit, and the bars were stocked with spirits from Republic National Distributing Company with The Macallan, Brugal Rum, Cointreau, Fireball, Rum Chata, Meastro Dobel Tequila, Rebel Yell, The Botanist Gin, Famous Grouse, San Angelo, and Beckon wines. Stephen’s Distributing brought the king of beers - Budweiser. LaCroix was on hand for sampling. Guests get photos compliments of Cirque du Soleil Volta, Ultimate Software and Ford. Other highlights from the evening include a video announcements of Grand Marshals - Country Legends Big & Rich, models from Panta Interactive and announcements of more Parade celebrities. Sixth Star Entertainment brings entertainment and beautiful décor. DJ Ivan in the house rocking it out and All On Stage provides LED Screens to the party and elevated the sound and visual highlights throughout the evening. Special thank you to Steve Savor for his donation to the Sun Sentinel Children’s Fund on our behalf.

BOATERS WE NEED YOU TO BE CONTROL BOATS Where would we be without our amazing volunteers, boating clubs, and Coast Guard Auxiliaries to coordinate our Official Control Boat Fleet? Our Control Boats are the additional eyes and ears of the Parade that also keep the “line” between the Parade participants and spectators established. If you would like to help the Parade as a Control Boat while having an awesome view, please contact the Winterfest® office at 954-767-0686. All Control Boats receive a great goodie bag, opportunity to win a raffle prize by ACR Electronics, and are invited to our Volunteer Party at Timpano in March.

SMILE FOR THE CAMERAS WAVE TO THE JUDGES There will be several camera crews on hand for the Parade on December 9. WSVN will film at the Riverside Hotel on Las Olas Boulevard and the Stranahan House, while providing the connection to the City of Fort Lauderdale’s channel 78. Sunny TV and Eye on South Florida will provide a live webcam. WSVN will have the Parade on their social media such as Facebook Live. The best places to view the Parade in true procession along the New River are at the Riverside Hotel, areas near the Stranahan House, and east from the Downtowner Saloon. This meeting is mandatory for Parade participants to attend. Meeting includes review of rules, regulations, and line-up information with U.S. Coast Guard, Fort Lauderdale Marine Patrol and Parade Organizers. Draw a fantasy boat for this year’s student art contest presented by Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital at Broward Health. Working with the Broward County School System and Broward Education Foundation, Winterfest® is encouraging kids in grades 3 – 5 to participate by submitting an 8.5” x 11” original artwork of a fantasy boat they would like to see in the Parade. The students winning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places will win awards and cash for their schools. Not only will each participating student have his/her artwork exhibited in the Galleria Fort Lauderdale, but they will also be invited to attend the Awards Ceremony with their parents on March 22, 2018. Each participant will receive a free ticket to The South Florida Fair, Museum of Art and Chinese Lantern Festival along with Kids Meals at PDQ, Bubba Gump and a participation certificate. In 2009, Winterfest® created the Jr. Captain - inspired by an amazing 15-year-old, Amanda Blake, who was fighting a rare form of bone cancer. This award honors a local child fighting a difficult battle with the privilege of being the Jr. Parade Captain.

ABOUT THE POSTER ARTIST APRIL KIRK Local Artist April Kirk is the 2017 Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest® Boat Parade poster artist. April Kirk is a resident of Fort Lauderdale, the Executive Director of the Historic Stranahan House Museum, and a painter. A native of Broward County, April is a graduate of Pine Crest School and received a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art with a concentration in painting and printmaking and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina. April seeks inspiration for her paintings from old family photographs, pop culture, and her surroundings. Paintings often are created as part of a larger series such as cat portraiture, Converse shoes, or the latest series, the City of Fort Lauderdale. The paintings currently on display at Fort Lauderdale City Hall all represent iconic images of Fort Lauderdale.

SOUTH FLORIDA: Watch the Winterfest® Television Special on WSVN 7 on December 16 (7 p.m.), December 25 (4 p.m.) and December 31 (5 p.m.). THE WIZARDS BEHIND THE CURTAIN OF WINTERFEST Winterfest® is comprised of a staff of three, board of 50 and hundreds of volunteers. Let us meet the individual “wizards” behind the curtain: Lisa Scott-Founds, Winterfest®’s President and CEO, has been at the helm for 23 years. Because of her passion and leadership, the Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest® Boat Parade has garnered a reputation as the “World’s Most Watched Boat Parade”, and Florida’s #1 most attended live spectator event. As a South Florida native, Lisa holds this local family tradition near and dear to her heart. “I grew up with Winterfest®, watching the Parades with my family” says Lisa. “The Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest® Boat Parade is how South Florida celebrates the holidays. I am so proud to be a part of the Winterfest® family, and I invite the community to join us and be a part of this heart-warming, family holiday tradition.” Dawn Read, another South Florida native, is Winterfest’s® Event Director. 2017 is Dawn’s 24th Parade and ensures that all of the jaw dropping showboats look their best and are ready to get you in the holiday spirit! Dawn also organizes all of the events and logistics that encompass the Winterfest® celebration season (White Party, Black Tie Ball, Family Fun Day, etc.). On Parade day, you will find her at the Grandstand Viewing Area with her three sons who volunteer.

Kathy Keleher came to South Florida from another town known for water – Niagara Falls. She serves as the Marketing and Parade Director for the Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest® Boat Parade. Kathy recruits all of the amazing boats you will see on December 9th, makes sure that they are all in compliance with Parade rules and regulations, and ensures that you know about the Winterfest® events. She will be celebrating 17 years with Winterfest®. Ben Wesley serves as the Chairman of the Board, and brings his passion for community and business to Winterfest®. As the External Affairs Manager for FPL, Ben brings his commitment to the community to his position. FPL sponsors the Jr. Captain Program and will be hosting this year’s winner, Grayson Zrelack representing Deliver the Dream, aboard their showboat. Mark Swenson, the Boat Parade Chairman will be at the helm for his 3rd year. As a member of the local boating community, Mark brings his love and knowledge of

There is no better way to kick off the holiday season, Fort Lauderdale style, with boats of all shapes and sizes decked out in millions of lights and hundreds of watts of music pumping through their sound systems - all for the entertainment of the more than one million spectators along the 12-mile waterway Parade route. This year’s theme is “Broadway on Parade” and promises to captivate the theatre lover in all of us! As the “World’s Most Watched Boat Parade,” Florida’s #1 attended one day live spectator event, #7 in the U.S and Top 20 Parade in the World, Winterfest® Inc. has an economic impact of over 51 million dollars annually to the South Florida economy. Incorporated in 1988, Winterfest® coordinates with control boat captains, tow boat operators, bridge tenders, charter boat captains, ham operators, dock masters, and government agencies such as the United States Coast Guard, Fort Lauderdale Marine Patrol, Fort Lauderdale Police Department, FFort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, Broward Sheriff’s Office, Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue, Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Central Intelligence Agency, Florida Department Of Transportation, Florida Highway Patrol and Homeland Security. Winterfest® produces this FREE annual signature event which utilizes 160 police details for land and sea, 27 ham operators, 25 control boat volunteers, and more than 300 volunteers on a single day.
