Library Department Goals 2012-2013 The goals for the school year 2012-2013 are based on the Utah State’s Library Media Program Standards: http://www.schools.utah.gov/CURR/library/Resources/Standards.aspx

DRSL's

•Continue to incorporate the school DRSL's into the library media curriculum. •Focus on incorporating more Spanish into library instruction and reader’s advisory with students. •Focus on meeting goals laid out in the school’s action plan.

•Continue to provide signage, labeling, and displays that will encourage students to check out materials and increase circulation.

•Inventory and Weeding schedule: Inventory and weed the collection to maintain its currency and relevancy. •Explicitly teach students how they can access their library information using the OPAC.

•Pursue professional development opportunities such as: UEN courses, conferences, web casts. •Staff should familiarize themselves with the collection through shelf reading, reading reviews, recommended booklists, publisher’s websites and reading.

•Continue to abide by school-wide policies and the library circulation policies and procedures.

•Add materials and titles needed as shown by the collection evaluation and teacher requests •Add titles to the collection that will enhance teacher’s use of the Common Core Standards: http://www.corestandards.org/. •Continue to tie book titles to education standards by adding standards that titles meet in the local notes of the bibliographic record.

•Continue to update the library websites to provide resources for students, parents, and teachers. •Continue to incorporate ALA’s Standards for the 21st century learner into the library media curriculum.

•Continue to keep track of budget expenses on the Y drive. •Research and continue to apply to grants.

Patron Request and Needs

•Purchase materials to support the school DRSLs and action plan: •Spanish and bilingual materials •Career and Secondary Education titles •Character education related titles: respect, friendship, cooperation, bullying, cyber bullying, etc.

•Purchase materials to support the Utah State Core (esp. new common core standards in LA & Math) •Greater emphasis on informational text •Purchase titles on standards which students were not as proficient on as shown by CRT results

•Purchase titles shown as needed by collection analysis needs: •Geography & History, Social Sciences, Technology •Age Sensitive Dewey Ranges: older copyrights are more likely to have outdated information •The following ranges have more than 70% of the titles aged. •003-007, 361-369, 380-389, 570-579, 910-919

•Fiction—add materials to increase student circulation by finishing series and acquiring new high interest fiction •High Interest/Low Level—Purchase high interest low level materials for struggling readers •New Classes/Interests—Supplement new classes and activities with titles i.e.: jump rope, archery, basketball, guitar, etc. •Faculty & Staff requests—If feasible purchase materials that will supplement faculty and staff curriculum and instruction as requested
