ABOUT ANNAPOLIS SOCCER CLUB ASC was founded in mid 1980’s when it separated from Peninsula Athletic League in order to provide a spring season. The winter program started in the mid 1990’s. Approximately 10 years ago, for the U7 and U8 age groups, ASC began (at no additional charge) providing occasional (every other week) professional soccer training for all of the fall U7 and U8 players to augment the volunteer coaching efforts. All Board members are volunteers. All coaches are volunteers. Soccer opportunities are outdoors in the fall and the spring seasons and indoors in the winter season. In the spring and the fall, the younger players participate in-‐house and the older players participate in the Anne Arundel County Youth Soccer (AAYSA) recreational league. In the winter season, all players are at an in-‐house league managed by ASC at the Annapolis Salvation Army. Our most recent seasonal participants have been 730 for Winter 2014, 690 (270 clinic and 420 County) for Spring 2014, and 1,030 (530 clinic and 500 County) in the Fall of 2014. For CLINIC level, in the spring season each clinic player receives a ball and a shirt and participates on a team with a volunteer coach. No “game” scores/records maintained. At the end of the spring season on the last “game” date player’s and their family members get ice cream. In the fall season each U4-‐U7 clinic player receives a ball and a shirt and participates on a team with a volunteer coach. No “game” scores/records maintained. At the end of the fall season each player receives an award (small trophy or medal). The fall U8s receive a uniform (shirt and matching socks and black shorts) to keep, no game scores or records are maintained, however, a season ending tournament has trophies for each player based upon tournament results. The club provides all supporting equipment and maintains practice and game fields and pays all ref fees. For COUNTY level, fall and spring, teams participate in the AAYSA league. Players are loaned uniforms for the duration of the season. New socks are given to each player. The club provides all supporting equipment and maintains practice and game fields and pays all ref and league fees. Only 10% of our players play travel and due to limited field resources; travel teams are outsourced to the Maryland Rush program. ASC’s primary limiting factor is field resources. ASC has particularly limited access to full–sized game fields.

ASC prides itself on maintaining some of the lowest fee structures in Anne Arundel County. Every effort is made to provide the best soccer experience at the lowest cost. This is accomplished in part by paying for some management and task services coupled with targeted volunteer services. Over the years, ASC has discovered that total reliance on strictly volunteers created a loss of organizational knowledge resulting in decreased participation (reduced revenues) and increased costs due to inefficiencies and errors. ASC will scholarship any player unable to afford our reduced fees. ASC is proud that no player is turned away if there is an available space. Initiatives are made into the local elementary schools to reach out to possible participants who are unfamiliar with the internet and/or the English language. These initiatives are engaged even though the vast majority of these new participants cannot pay the seasonal fees. ASC and its members are generous in their efforts to help the local and international communities. Within the last two years, equipment and shoe drives have helped the under privileged in Annapolis and in Rwanda (https://vimeo.com/103350545). A number of years ago, equipment and shoes were sent to Afghanistan. Our participants have collaborated on Boy Scout, Girl Scout, Red Cross, and other non-‐soccer fundraising efforts. ASC is currently working on developing new initiatives with local Annapolis Boys Club/Girls Club. For more than a decade, ASC has utilized local high school students as U8 instructional referees. This is done in part to provide the greater referee community with a new source of an extremely (more so than fields) limited resource. A number of ASC’s volunteers have been honored with distinguished local and regional awards.
