Our Towns Andover

Chester

This Andover is named for the Connecticut town, which in turn was named for the one in Massachusetts. The town was nearly twice its present size when it was granted in 1761. However, a ridge of highlands (including the aptly named Terrible Mountain) made it virtually impossible to get from one side of town to the other, so the western portion was made into the separate town of Weston in 1799. Today the lovely town of Andover is home to many vibrant Vermont artisans, small authentic farms, and even a hot air balloon maker!

Nestled between Bromley, Magic, Stratton, and Okemo, located just west of the junction of Route 11 and 103 on Route 11, Chester is a town full of beautiful architectural treasures surrounded by unspoiled countryside. Lodging and dining, from elegant to homey, will make you glad to have found a thriving town that has not lost its sense of history and place. Nominated as one of the prettiest “Painted Places in America, the charming village of Chester offers a number of shops with distinct personalities and a pretty village green.

Town office: 802-875-2173

Cavendish

Ludlow

Located along Route 131 and comprised of two villages, Proctorsville on the western end of Route 131 and Cavendish further to the east, several glimmer stone houses and numerous small businesses mark the two villages. Cavendish offers spring trophy trout fishing and kayaking along the scenic Black River. Proctorsville offers exquisite biking along unadulterated back roads and Route 131 as it winds along the river. Beautiful fall vistas of Vermont farm fields as well as hiking in state forests make for great year-round recreation.

Located at the junction of Route 100/103, this 150+ year old village began life as a mill town powered by the sparkling Black River. Chartered in 1761 when Seth Lee claimed his lot and settled on what is now Pond Street (Main Street). Today, the adorable town of Ludlow is the thriving fourseason town in the heart of the Okemo Valley with shops, galleries, exceptional dining, a haven of lodging choices, and lots of things to do. Ludlow is home to Okemo Mountain Resort, a perfect yearround playground with world-class amenities.

Mount Holly

Weston

Mount Holly is comprised of a group of small villages. The most recognized is Belmont, located west of Route 103N. This small village is located along the shore of breathtaking Star Lake. The village is anchored by a general store, as well as beautiful historic and contemporary homes. Mount Holly prides itself on several special annual events: the Fourth of July Celebration; Artfest, held the 1st weekend in August on the Village Green; Cider Days over Columbus Weekend; and monthly community dinners at Odd Fellows Hall from April through October.

Incorporated in 1799, Weston was originally part of Andover but the ridge created by Markham and Terrible Mountains made it impossible to get from one side of town to the other. Located on Route 100, 5 miles north of Route 11 in Londonderry and 10 miles south of Ludlow, Weston is virtually untouched by time, the entire village is on the National Register of Historic Places. Home of The Vermont Country Store, The Weston Playhouse & the Weston Priory (a Benedictine monastery), and one of the most picturesque village greens in Vermont.

Town office: 802-259-2391

Town office: 802-824-6645

Plymouth Located on Route 100/100A, Plymouth is comprised of two small villages, Plymouth and Plymouth Notch, virtually unchanged since 1923, when Calvin Coolidge was sworn in as the 30th President of the United States. Historic Plymouth Notch is carefully preserved; the village church, general store, cheese factory, and community dance hall that served as the 1924 Summer White House. Plymouth is also home to the enchanting and unspoiled Coolidge State Forest offering seasonal campsites and trails for hiking.

Approaching the town of Ludlow on scenic route 100 near the junction of route 103 and Okemo Mountain, sits a charming 19th century red and black barn with a delightful surprise. A peek through a window on the ground floor hints at what lies inside. A popular wood choice for our Coolidge rocker is Vermont tapped maple, the tap holes were originally drilled in the tree for the purpose of gathering sap to make maple syrup. Woods such as oak, cherry, walnut, curly maple, Bubinga, Wenge, and others are used to make items ranging from end tables, coffee tables, beds, dressers and desks. Also on display is an island to help with planning your own kitchen, with a Vermont Verde antique marble top (quarried only in Vermont). Several barstools as well as hutches, bookcases and sideboards are also shown. Dining tables in many sizes and shapes are extremely popular with and without leaf options. www.YourPlaceInVermont.com

Craftsmen are intently working at their benches making heirloom quality furniture the old-fashioned way. At one bench a craftsman is carefully inserting inlay into a table top. ou won’t find any billboards in Vermont; not because we have nothing to advertise—far from it—even a billboard can’t

provide enough room to say everything we’d need to say about the extraordinary local businesses and wealth of services the Okemo Valley has to offer. We take great pride in the wide array of family-owned businesses and local professionals serving our area. When you need a mechanic you can trust, a therapeutic massage or a plumber at sunrise, a local professional is just a phone call away. From LEED certified builders for renovation projects or new construction, to cutting edge health professionals, and concientious wedding planners, trust the businesses built on the spirit, pride and dedication of providing exceptional service and quality. ahhh ... relax just

Reward yourself with tranquilty What could possibly be better than relaxing in soothing warm water at the end of the day, gazing over your garden or the most recent snowfall? Social and private; fun and relaxing, if you haven’t owned a hot tub before, you might be asking “Do I really need a hot tub”? The short and simple answer is yes. Throughout history people from many different cultures have enjoyed a relaxing soak in hot water. From naturally occurring thermal springs to elaborately constructed bath houses, the benefits of hydrotherapy have stood the test of time. “ Jacuzzi is the name that defines the hot tub experience” says Dave Knight Owner of Knight Tubs Pools & Spas— the area’s leader in hot tub sales and service since 1984. With over 65 years 102

of combined experience, the sales and service team at Knight Tubs can answer any hot tub or pool related questions with simple, accurate information that you can easily understand. “We are dedicated to providing both our local customers and second homeowners prompt, personalized service before, during and especially after the purchase of your new hot tub. Our goal is to make choosing the perfect hot tub for you and your family an easy and pleasant experience”, says Mary Knight. A hot tub is a feel-good purchase but having one can improve your life in a great many ways. Start your day on a positive note by immersing yourself in warm water and watch the sun rise on a new day. “No matter what time of year it is or what the

ambient temperature may be, there’s something magical about sipping your coffee and enjoying a bit of quiet time before the chaos of the day sets in”, says Mary. Not a morning person? Spend twenty minutes in your hot tub before bedtime and you will enjoy a deep restorative night’s sleep. The Jacuzzi brand hot tubs you will find at Knight Tubs, are extremely energy efficient and designed for the harsh northern climate of Vermont. Proud of the thousands of satisfied customers they have served, Knight Tubs Pools & Spas can provide routine weekly, bi-weekly or monthly service for your hot tub or pool. Whether you are looking for a brand new Jacuzzi tub, or dedicated care for one that you currently own, stop by Knight Tubs Pools & Spas. Visit with Dave and Mary – let them share their knowledge of the benefits of hydrotherapy with you in the friendly, beautiful showroom.

n Innkeepers Dream Come True: After 30 years of marriage and 25 years of living the corporate life, Dan and Penny Cote recommitted their vows through a wedding ceremony on an island in Casco Bay off the coast of Portland Maine. Dan invited 50 friends and surprised Penny with a wedding dress, a lobster bake, and a boat ride out to the island. Dan decided that life was getting shorter and time together was more important than the corporate life. ...oh, and Dan and Penny bought a Bed & Breakfast. Four Years Later: Acclaimed by many rating organizations and guests as the 116 providing the most “Exceptional Experience”

in South Central Vermont, this circa 1850 Victorian style Inn is admired and loved by many. The smart paintwork of purple and buttery yellow draws admiring glances from passers by. Cross the threshold through the antique front door and the first impression of the cozy Victorian parlor is a chorus of wows! The inn is well appointed with antiques of the period, and special touches that complement the experience like 1600 count Egyptian cotton bed sheets, luxurious baths, spacious rooms, flat screen TV’s and WiFi, exceptional service and more.
