Niles West Music Parents Association

NNFAPP was incorporated as a not-forprofit charitable organization in 2000 with the primary purpose to foster, promote and expand community support of the Niles North fine arts.

The Niles West Music Parents Association is the parent booster organization for the choir, band and orchestra programs at Niles West. The group provides reduced price private lessons for students in need, scholarship, and funds for projects outside of the scope of the school budget. The main fundraiser is the Pasta ‘n Pops event held in the spring. For more information, contact nwmusicparents@gmail.com.

NNFAPP awards grants to students to enhance their skills in art, music, dance and theatre. These grants can be used for master classes, creative workshops, private lessons, outside ensembles and summer camps and programs. For more information, please visit www.nilesnorthfapp.com.

Niles West Theatre Patrons (formerly Niles West Theatre Parents) provides service and advocacy for the Niles West Theatre Department. Many actors will appear on stage for the first time in this series of one-act plays. Directing class students take the helm, each leading a cast through the creative process of mounting a play.

Four students from the outer boroughs and their apathetic teacher in a play that addresses violence, acceptance, friendship and racism. We see life-changing actions that culminate in one disturbing act.

After accepting creative writing submissions from child authors, Niles North Theatre will develop their work into a series of dramatized mini-plays. Going back to the authors’ schools with the children’s writing imaginatively staged, the stories will be brought to life in a show called that’s my story!

Imagine, at age 13, being taken from New York to a small town. A geek, the cute girl, the faker, the jock, the loser: everyone is trying to fit in and be noticed. Jason Robert Brown’s score brilliantly captures the tragic-joy of being 13!

Based on the comic strip Little Orphan Annie, this popular musical features numbers such as “Tomorrow” and “It’s the Hard Knock Life.”

ATS SHOWCASE Tuesday, May 17 at 4 pm & 7:30 pm Niles West Black Box Theatre The Advanced Theatre Studio class presents an end-of-the-year showcase. During the school year, students study topics such as advanced acting, improv, dialects, design, construction, lighting and other topics. Then, they put it all together in this showcase.

Band Students perform in Beginning Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Extracurricular opportunities for band students include Color/Winter Guard, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble and Pop n’ Rock. Orchestra Students in the orchestra may be placed in Beginning Strings, Concert Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphonic Orchestra. Choir Offerings in choir include Choraliers, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Advanced Choir and Chorale (North). Extracurricular choirs are Echo Effect, High Fidelity and Guys & Dolls at Niles West and Soundcheck, Harmonic Motion, and Take One at Niles North.

Team Careful Chaos worked with designer Kpoene’ Kofi-Nicklin to create a head-to-toe look that won the Judges’ Choice Award in the FashioNext Chicago Styled competition. The winning look was displayed at the Chicago History Museum.

Niles West student Jasmait Oyolola received a Most Outstanding Gold Medal in Fashion Construction at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America State Leadership Conference. A model wore the gorgeous garment at the Niles Township Fashion Show.


VISUAL ARTS Students may select courses like drawing/painting, ceramics, digital photography, advanced studio art, graphic design, art foundations and advanced placement studio art. Extracurricular opportunities for artists include Art Club, Graphic Art Club and Art Honor Society.

Niles West student Nicole Nienow was the Grand Prize winner in the Illinois High School Art Exhibition. The award was sponsored by Sargent Art and the prize was an expense paid trip to New York for her, a parent and her teacher.

Dancers rehearse all season to prepare for their annual dance show. They work with professional choreographers and learn to choreograph pieces as well. Dancers perform different styles of dance including jazz, modern, hip-hop, tap, swing, Broadway, ballet and Bollywood. * Free community performance.

RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS • Niles North musician was selected for National Honor Ensembles Concert Band. • Auroris Dance Company selected to State Dance Festival for fourth year. • Niles West’s Echo Effect competed at Nationals as one of the Top 10 high school a cappella groups. • Eleven artists competed in the 2nd annual Illinois High School Art Exhibition, with the Grand Prize winner from Niles West. • Niles West A Cappella had a track selected for the Best of High School a Cappella compilation CD. • Niles North student awarded first place in Theatre Tech in the University of Illinois College of Fine and Applied Arts High School Talent Competition. • Niles West artist won Metra Poster Contest. • Niles West Marching Band swept Metamora Marching Band Invitational with Best Winds, Best Percussion, Best Color Guard, Best Drum Maor and Crowd Favorite awards. • Niles West choir student featured as WGN Radio Kid of the Week. • Niles North Director received the Illinois Theatre Association Anne Thuman Mentorship Award. • Niles West Director named Secretary for Illinois Theatre Association. • Niles West student selected to perform onstage with The Piano Guys at the Chicago Theatre. • Thirty-six musicians were invited to perform at IMEA District 7 festivals.
