KARTING NEEDS THE SUCCESS OF NEW OK ENGINES I

t’s difficult to say that the KF engine generation was successful for karting. Since their introduction in 2007, international entries have continued to decline, while the CIK categories have disappeared from many national championships. Certainly, attitudes have changed greatly during this period, other deals that are more lucrative for manufacturers have established themselves and a generally difficult economic climate did not favour the expansion of the discipline.

The new management team of the CIK-FIA behind the Vice-President Kees van de Grint have worked for three years in close collaboration with leading manufacturers to develop a new generation of engines, simpler, lighter and less expensive. Recently validated by the World Motor Sport Council, the OK engines will be used in place of KF from 2016. In the turbulent races, the KPR drivers still managed to raise their game, especially Adrien Renaudin and Nicolas Picot, 9th in Senior after a rise of 22 places in the final. "We had the satisfaction of being very competitive internationally,” said Dominique Chech, the boss of Kart Pro Racing. "The races were often harsh, with unfortunate clashes, but our equipment really was in on it. In terms of engines, we have nothing to envy

against other teams: the performance is there, and reliability is excellent. As for the chassis, the 2015 Sodi models are completely up to speed, even on sticky rubber because of the heat! The entire meeting was too agitated to be able to get the deserved results. The performance, however, proved that we were on track. The whole team is confident and we have a good card to play for the remainder of the season."

2016 OK ENGINES A NEW ADVENTURE BEGINS FOR THE FUTURE OF KARTING Simplification, streamlining and cost reduction are some of the priorities which have led the CIK-FIA to introduce new engine specifications for 2016 onwards. The aim is to give the direct drive categories back their place in national championships across the world and to broaden the base of kart racers at all levels.

A

fter more than three years of reflection, dialogue and testing, the official presentation of the OK engines was made during the European Championship in Britain and revealed a major change in direction in order to reinvigorate direct drive Karting Competition. The introduction in 2007 of KF engines has caused a restriction in the international categories to high-level over the years, while reducing the number of drivers involved in international races. The direction taken by the CIK-FIA corresponds to the demands and expectations of the majority of ASNs, manufacturers and competitors. At the dawn of any great change questions and legitimate doubts are welcomed. The conservative world of Competition Karting is no exception.

Simplification and weight reductions go hand in hand with the removal of the clutch, starter, battery and harness, elements that have generated many problems in the past. The necessity to monitor the clutch meant the use of expensive onboard electronic equipment which could be used afforded in each

country and whose absence often left room for suspicion. The engine capacity of 125cc is maintained as well as the internal balancing system, and the water pump can be either internal or external. It was also decided to use the same type of

butterfly carburettor as before, with a diameter of 24mm for OK and 20mm for OK-Junior. The respective maximum revs are fixed at 16000 RPM and 14000 RPM. The exhausts for OK and OK-Junior are specific monotypes and must be homologated. The specific monotype power valve must be homologated with the OK engine. The new OK and OK-Junior engines are now positioned very competitively in terms of cost of purchase and use with a maximum selling price of â‚Ź2000, excluding taxes but including all accessories excpt the water cooler. The question of the minimum allowed weight has provoked many reactions. It is to move from a minimum total mass, including Driver, of 158kg to 145kg for the OK category, and 145kg to 140kg in OK-Junior. At the same time, the minimum mass of the kart falls from 75kg to 70kg. The Safety Commission of the FIA regularly encourages the CIK-FIA to reduce the mass of karts to improve drivers' safety. Remember that the use of ballast to reach the current minimum weight is very common in Competition. It seems logical to want to restrict this practice, which is often inconvenient and especially detrimental to safety. It is important for all of the stakeholders in Karting and the future of the sport that the OK and OK-Junior categories reach their goal. For this, the active involvement of ASNs and manufacturers is essential. The sporting development of the discipline at all levels should be the primary objective.

2015 CIK-FIA HISTORIC KARTING SUPER CUP AT LE MANS The CIK-FIA has made a habit of associating historic Karts with the biggest Competitions of the season. OK1 ON TOP IN THE FRENCH CUP FOR MINIKART

Among the 15 different brands involved in the 2015 French Cup for Minikart at Belmont sur Rance, OK1 is clearly ahead of everyone in terms of performance. Mathys Jaubert was the only driver able to stay in the top two positions during the entire meeting driving his orange OK1 frame.

L

oyal to the Italian brand since 2014, Mathys had already achieved excellent results last year in the top 10 of the French Cup at Angerville run in pouring rain. In 2015 the temperature was also high at Belmont. Mathys consistently beat the leading duo, winning two heats and the prefinal with the fastest lap, before dropping back by just 73 thousandths in the final. The OK1 chassis confirmed once again the excellence of their design and manufacture, whatever the conditions, and gives the demanding competitors a great opportunity to reach the summits of competition. OK1 is distributed in France by Action-Karting with a particularly broad reseller network.

INTERVIEW

INTERVIEW

Glenn Keyaert CRG in his blood Info Kartcom - Frédéric Billet © Photo KSP - Philippe Kalmès

Glenn, how far back was your karting debut?

I started racing in 2001 with the VDK Racing team who were then the Belgian CRG importer. This allowed me to race with Jonathan Thonon for example, in France, then in Europe and the World Championship in ICA and FA categories.

Were you a good driver?

I was certainly fast, but was always missing something to get good results in the race. I had perhaps not done enough to win ... I also had a large dose of bad luck : when a technical problem occurred or a solid element broke, it often fell on me. I was a good tester in this aspect!

Good memories anyway?

Yes of course! I'm pretty proud to have qualified 2nd in the 2006 European Championship at Varennes in FA ahead of most of the great champions of that time. Then, with the arrival of KF engines, it was not as interesting. Still, I managed a great recovery in the final of the KF1 World Championship in 2008 at La Conca, from 33rd to 11th place.

TRAINED AT VDK, FIRST AS A DRIVER AND THEN AS A RACING MECHANIC, THE 27-YEAR-OLD BELGIAN GLENN KEYAERT TOOK HAS TAKEN OVER THE SPORTING MANAGEMENT OF THE CRG RACING TEAM IN THE 2015 SEASON AND THE HISTORIC ITALIAN BRAND HAS THE LOYALTY OF A YOUNG MAN WITH A SUBTLE PASSION, A KIND OF CULTURAL EXCEPTION IN A HEAVILY ITALIAN ENVIRONMENT.

Where did you get a taste for mechanics?

I started gradually from 2006, always with VDK. I won the Belgian Championship with Maurizio Pignato before accompanying Stoffel Vandoorne’s first season, undoubtedly a very talented driver. I realized that I had more fun as a mechanic than a driver. When I reached 21 years and I had to find a real job, that’s what really motivated me.

How did you join the CRG team?

To be frank, almost by accident! When VDK decided to change to Kosmic, I naturally followed my driver Michelle Gatting to the CRG Racing Team. I then worked with Laura Tillett and Felice Tiene for three years.

And now here you are sporting director of CRG!

Yes I am! Mr. Tinini gave me greater responsibilities when Euan Jeffrey started working with international customers. It suits him, he's so comfortable in different languages. I quickly adapted to my new role where I can rely on my dual ex-

perience as a driver and mechanic and I admit that I like it!

What are your goals as a team manager of CRG?

I think we need to improve collaboration between drivers and develop a team spirit. We also work to develop the use of data acquisition. For this we have a very good engineer, and we use the new AIM system which is far more significant.

There have already been results in 2015?

Pedro Hiltbrand was able to win the European KZ2 Championship. He finished 2nd by only three points behind the winner after encountering problems sporting problems at Genk. It's a bit disappointing, but the equipment worked well. Simo Puhakka is also very fast in KZ. Felice Tiene for now holds 3rd place in the provisional ranking in KF and Alex Quinn worked well at PFI with his 2nd place in KF-Junior.

PETELET : SEVERAL

DISAPPOINTMENTS IN A ROW IN BRITAIN

M

ilane Petelet did not find the performance in England he had displayed during the opening of the European Championship in Portugal in KFJunior. Several factors explain this situation, first and foremost being a chain of adverse circumstances for which he was not at all responsible. The PFI circuit requires a lot of experience that Milane doesn’t yet have for his first season in KF-Junior, but also a good dose of luck. At the VDK Racing team, as at other teams, the English track is not enjoyed because of the randomness of the results it is possible to get there. More than elsewhere, a good driver equipped with efficient equipment isn’t at all certain to achieve good results.

driven over, and was then excluded because of his torn air box from the incident, which further worsened his score. Milane was delayed by another incident on the formation lap of the last heat, with eight places left, and came back as best he could to 13th position, the same place as on the starting grid.

The difficult weekend English ended prematurely during the repechage on Sunday morning. Starting 20th, Milane was already 10th in mid-race with a real chance of qualifying, when he was forced to retire with his rear bumper dislodged. The young driver was worthy at all times in the British turmoil, but fate was never favourable to him and there was a legitimate disappointment on the decisive day. He is now looking Quick in free practice driving his to the final round of the European Kosmic / Parilla, Milane found Championship scheduled in a himself 32nd in qualifying despite month in Sweden with the intention his 7th fastest time in Group 2. to show what he is capable of. and Kout still equal in the standings • The dominance of the two leaders eclipses competition • Heat wave and storm on the schedule

T

he duel between the Czech driver Adam Kout (MSkart / DEA) and the German Peter Elkmann (MS Kart / VM) was extended on the Bugatti circuit of Le Mans. Kout was 5/100 ahead on the clock against his rival who took the lead in Race 1, when the track conditions were improving after the storm. Kout took his revenge in Race 2, despite an incident when passing a slower driver. Elkmann could not keep up this time. Liam Morley (Anderson / DEA) was on the 3rd step of the podium each time followed by Andreas Jost (Anderson / VM) in 4th position. Elkmann and Kout remain tied for championship, ahead of their opponents.

The event was also included in the calendar of the French Open Championship. Well ahead of his French rivals, Peter Elkmann added many points to an already exceptional score which now ensures him the 2015 title. The pack remained distant from the lead in both races with Julien Lamalle (PVP / VM) 14th ahead of Thierry Vandemeulebroucke (Anderson / FPE) 18th and Pascal Delcroix (MS Kart / VM) 19th in Race 1 and then Julien Goullancourt (Anderson / DEA) 10th in Race 2 ahead of Olivier Leibel (PVP / PVP) 11th and Kevin Ranoarimanana (MS Kart / VM) 14th.

CIK-FIA European Championship KZ and KZ2, 3/3 - Genk

CAMPONESCHI AND JOHANSSON JOIN THE EUROPEAN ROLL OF HONOUR KEY POINT DATE: JULY 9TH TO 12TH, 2015 LOCATION: CIRCUIT HORENSBERGDAM, GENK, BELGIUM • 1360 M ENTRIES: 72 DRIVERS • 2 CATEGORIES • KZ2

increasing, notorious defections in KZ • Deserved coronations for Camponeschi and Johansson • Few incidents on track, but many penalties for spoilers • Various weather conditions

INTERNATIONAL

KZ

Iglesias winner, Camponeschi Champion D

espite an unfortunately limited entry, the fight for victory in KZ did not drop in intensity. Flavio Camponeschi (Tony Kart-Vortex-B'stone) began with the fastest time in Qualifying Practice, Simo Puhakka (CRG-MaxterB'stone) went ahead in the Qualifying Heats and Jorrit Pex (Intrepid-TM Racing- B'stone) won the Prefinal ahead of Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart-VortexB'stone). Increasingly effective, JĂŠrĂŠmy Iglesias (Sodi-TM Racing B'stone) seized the lead from the second lap of the Final and then defended from the return of Rick Dreezen (Ricciardo-Parilla-B'stone) to clinch a superb victory. Camponeschi again faced his teammate Ardigo to take 3rd place. After the finish, the result changed because of penalties for Dreezen and Camponeschi for detached front fairings. Ardigo took 2nd position ahead of Ben Hanley (Croc Racing Promotions-TM-B'stone).

INTERNATIONAL

KZ2

Suspense until the end for Johansson A

rriving at Genk as leader of the CIKFIA European KZ2 Championship, Pedro Hiltbrand (CRGSPA-Maxter-LeCont) found several obstacles in way in Belgium. Stan Pex (Intrepid-TM Racing-LeCont) was the fastest in Qualifying Practice ahead of Lorenzo Camplese (Parolin-TM Racing-LeCont) and Alexander Schmitz (Tony Kart-Vortex-LeCont) with Hiltbrand only 28th. Joel Johansson (Energy-TM Racing-LeCont) went ahead at the end of the Qualifying Heats against Felice Tiene (CRGSPA-Maxter-LeCont). Further delayed by an incident and a penalty, Hiltbrand was 23rd. In a slippery and tricky Prefinal after a little rain, Pex controlled Schmitz’s recovery, Johansson ensured 3rd place. Pex and Schmitz battled again in Final, this time in the dry, far ahead of their opponents. Schmitz got the better of Pex. Starting cautiously Johansson rose to 3rd place with great composure and closed on the two leaders late in the race, aware that he had fulfilled his mission for the Championship. Hiltbrand had the ability to creep up to 9th position but was powerless to stop the coronation of Johansson.

The European KZ2 title back at Energy

A

lways present on European podiums without interruption for 13 years, the Energy Corse team has just celebrated its 7th European Championship since 2004, including the KZ1 title won by Paolo De Conto in 2011. A feat that no other team has managed before! At Genk in Belgium, Joel Johansson was faultless, while still one of the fastest on the track. By putting his Energy Corse-TM Racing on the podium, the talented Swede knew he would ensure the title. The unquestionable expertise of his team and its extensive international experience still makes a difference. In 2011 and 2013, second with Joel Johansson, then in 2014, third with Simas Juodvirsis, Energy Corse was on the verge of adding an additional European crown to the list. But in the KZ2 category, the team managed by Mick Panigada never stays very long without celebrating a major title. "KZ2 is one of the most popular categories in the world. All major brands are represented, the drivers are always very numerous, the equipment is extremely competitive and it is a great pride to win at this level," said the team manager with repeatedly recognised expertise.

after he took control after the Qualifying Heats. "The track was tricky and I did not take any risks to maintain a place at the front on the starting grid for the Final. There, I gave everything to reach the podium. I knew that both drivers ahead of me could not be champion, but I had to watch what was going on behind. The strategy implemented with the team worked perfectly and the competitiveness of the equipment was impeccable! It is a great satisfaction for me, after failing by a point to take the title in 2013." At Sarno, the Championship had started badly for Johansson, driven into by another competitor. But in all three meetings, the driver in the Energy Corse colours was the most consistent at the front. At Genk his team-mate Sean Babington was able to fight in the top 10 during the whole meeting. 10th at the chequered flag, he was unfortunately penalised 30 seconds because of a dropped spoiler.

As Mick Panigada likes to remember, “Tthe season is far from over. After the podium for Juan Correa in England in KF, 4th place for David Vidales and the beautiful performance from Frederik Vesti (7th after the heats and in the Prefinal) in KF-Junior, the goal is to complete these two European Championships on a positive note in Sweden. Then it will be Johansson and his team stayed time to prepare for the KZ2 International completely focused throughout the Super Cup at Le Mans, a race that we meeting, as the Championship remained have already won in 2013." undecided. In addition, a few drops of rain disrupted the Prefinal, while the Swede’s No. 304 kart started from pole position

A deserved title

Marta Garcia Lopez ready to win the Academy Trophy

B

y taking a second victory in the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy in Genk, Spain's Marta Garcia Lopez is now assured of the title at the last Competition at Le Mans in September. The driver of the FIA "Women in Motorsport" Commission has mastered her subject to perfection in the top three. Before her win in the Final, she faced two compatriots, Xavier Lloveras Brunet and Alejandro Lahoz Lopez. The Dutchman Dylan Buys took control by winning the Prefinal, but Spanish supremacy was restored in the Final with the unquestionable victory of Garcia Lopez ahead of Lloveras Brunet and Lahoz Lopez. The Brazilian Murilo Della Coletta and French Theo Nouet completed the top five. These three Spaniards are in the same order in the provisional standings of the Trophy, with Briton Alfie Brown and Della Coletta 4th and 5th.

Nouet finishes in the top 5 of the Academy in Genk O

f the four drivers of the FFSA Equipe de France Karting participating in the CIK-FIA meeting at Genk, only the youngest, Theo Nouet, was able finish on top of the game by finishing 5th in the Academy Trophy final. Nicolas Gonzales and Enzo Coursimault lost out during clashes in the Final, while Thomas Laurent had to deal with unfavourable circumstances throughout the weekend. It was a relatively mixed picture after the Belgian event for the FFSA Equipe de France Karting programme. Several points, technical and human, should be overhauled for the main event of the 2015 season to be held at the Le Mans on 10th to 13th September. To start with, the European KZ2 Championship brought far from the expected level of results. The international competition is very tight in this category and any setback has major consequences. Thomas Laurent (Tony Kart / Vortex) had experienced problems since the first

event in Italy, when an opponent ruined his hopes with a crash on the first lap of the final. In Spain as in Belgium last weekend, he had to face some mechanical problems and other racing incidents in the pack that did not allow him to take the results he deserved. But he neverput down his weapons and took every opportunity to get the best out of his equipment. With the 5th time of his group in Genk, unfortunately the slowest of the three, Thomas was 14th overall. He completed a good run in the heats before losing ground during an incident early in the last race. Once again delayed at the start of the prefinal, but he climbed from 27th to 16th place. He managed to get closer to the top 10 in the final before having to concede ground with nothing to be ashamed of, which is very frustrating.

the last qualifying heat when the leader broke his chain at the start. Pushed out the first corner of the prefinal in the rain, he then climbed back from up the back of the field to 13th place with the 5th fastest time in the race, his best performance of the weekend. In the dry final, Nicolas returned to the top 10, but suffered an attack and had to retire, with a broken steering column.

For both younger recruits of the FFSA Equipe de France Karting, the second of three events of the Academy Trophy had not started ideally. With engine trouble since free practice, Theo Nouet was noticeably slow with the 44th time out of 49 competitors. But he recovered very well in the race as usual and moved into the top 10 after the qualifying heats. For Enzo Coursimault, the meeting started a little better with Nicolas Gonzales (Sodi / TM) came to his 22nd time in qualifying. However, Genk at the wheel of a new more efficient he lost several precious places late in kart after failing at the Zuera round. His the first heat despite good speed (4th early weekend was similar to that of fastest time). Both drivers came back Thomas, dropping out involuntarily into during the prefinal in the rain. They were

both inspired in the final and took 3rd and 4th place from the second lap. Theo made the most of his kart and was was honorably ranked 5th in the race, but Enzo retired after an unfortunate tussle on the fourth lap. With his 5th place, Theo climbs to 8th place in the Trophy.

Under the captaincy of Yvan Muller, the 2015 FFSA Equipe de France Karting is composed of Nicolas Gonzales, Thomas Laurent, Adrien Renaudin, Enzo Coursimault and Theo Nouet.

Genk Academy 2015:

big achievements for Parolin T

he second round of the 2015 CIK-FIA Academy Trophy has probably been one of the most brilliant achievements of Parolin Racing Kart who again proved their expertise

in Belgium. Providing 50 very close in performance and reliable machines remains a demanding challenge to meet in every race. The experience of the Italian team allows them to meet

this challenge with great consistency. Particularly difficult technically, the Genk circuit had very different conditions from those of the first event

Despite this, the best drivers in Spain shone again in Belgium, proving again the Academy Trophy's ability to reveal talent and minimizing the importance of the equipment in the results. This important point is the essence of the formula established by the CIK-FIA. "We are very satisfied with the meeting at Genk, says Marco Parolin. "We have a good knowledge of the Belgian circuit and its specific conditions for our third time here in the Academy Trophy. This facilitated the work and the choice of the carburetion for our 50 karts. In the dry or in the rain, the FIM engines ran very well. All karts reached the finish, except in case of accidents, but that is not our responsibility. Throughout the weekend, we saw some very hotly contested races with small gapss between the competitors. The pole position was shared in full equality

to three decimal between Spanish Lloveras Brunet and Russian Slutskiy with a lap in 55''635! This what we talk about when we talk about victory for Parolin Racing Kart!"

BREYSSE FINALLY TAKES THE TITLE! A

former renowned international driver, Kevin Breysse had never yet been crowned French Champion, despite more than convincing performance internationally. Three drivers were quickly away from the pack: Thomas Ricci (Tony Kart) and Vincent Fraisse (Sodi) being the contenders alongside Kevin Breysse (FA Kart). A small crash for FraĂŻsse eliminated him in the last Final and compromised the chances of Ricci. Breysse won despite minor technical problems in Final 2. AndrĂŠ Suau (Tony Kart) was progressing steadily and was on the third step of the podium, behind Ricci, who could not hide his disappointment at having missed the title.

JESSE BOUHET, FRENCH CHAMPION 2

nd in qualifying behind the poleman Morgan Hipp (Tony Kart), Jesse Bouhet (Tony Kart) dominated the qualifying heats against the fast GrĂŠgory Jolinet (Tony Kart). He won Final 1 but was delayed by a clash in Final 2, so Bouhet absolutely had to win the third race. Mission accomplished, despite the good performance of Jolinet, 2nd in the last race and 3rd in the Championship. Adrian Nerguti (Tony Kart) was not off the mark with a win and a 2nd place that gave him a nice 2nd place in the championship.

UVRIN

KEY POINT DATE: JUNE 27TH TO 28TH, 2015 LOCATION: CIRCUIT OF DOUVRIN, FRANCE - 1000 M ENTRIES: 87 DRIVERS • 7 CATEGORIES • Second of three appointment of the ASAF, this time at a French circuit • Belgian Championship dedicated to IAME classes • Surprising races in the sun • Positions tightening in the championship • Conclusion at Mariembourg in October

X30 SENIOR: RASPATELLI BACK TO WINNING WAYS

Matteo Raspatelli dominated the category by being the fastest in qualifying and in both races on the programme. Co-leader of the championship arriving in France, Maxime Potty seemed able to challenge him for victory in the second race after completing the first in 2nd. But a broken exhaust pipe forced the driver from Hamoir to retire ... The French driver Corentin Collignon took advantage to clinch 2nd place in the second race and the overall ranking ahead of Marnik Battryn. In the championship, Raspatelli took the lead ahead of Battryn. With the dropped scores Potty, currently 3rd, is still able to aim for the title.

X30 JUNIOR: WILDE TAKES CONTROL

With one pole position and two solo races, Ugo de Wilde hardly left any suspense in X30 Junior in quieter than usual races. Kenny Roosens, Ries Viverette and Leo Bernardont took the places of honour in that order. The top five of the day was completed by the French driver Franck Chappard. De Wilde took the championship lead, but Leo Bernard and Kenny Roosens are respectively 5 and 6 points back.

X30 MASTER: CORTHALS TAKES A DOUBLE WIN

After a pole position and an easy win in the first race in X30 Master (25 years or over 80 kg), Pierre-Yves Corthals had to work hard to win against Luc Lefevre in the second race. The Liegeois took over the lead in a championship he has already won last year. Julien De Bolle finished the day on the lowest step of the podium in front of Jérémy Chiliade and Luca Blasi.

X30 SHIFTER: PALMAERS WINS

Making his debut in X30 Shifter, Olivier Palmaers is progressing every race, and took both wins at Douvrin. The easy winner of the first race after qualifying on pole position, he completely missed his start in the second race and had to push to win in front of Thomas Cypers and Jentsen Adriaenssens. These three drivers are grouped into a single point in the standings.

o say that Vincent Fraisse (Sodi / Rotax) hasn’t mastered the specifics of the Ancenis circuit would be lying. Already crowned at this track in 2013, Vincent Fraisse (Sodi / Rotax) started his weekend with pole position, before taking four wins out of four in the qualifying heats and Final 1. But he almost dropped out Final 2, when he was forced to retire four laps from the finish. The event could have then turned in favour of Hugo Croquison (FA Kart / Rotax), the winner of Final 2. But Fraïsse was quick to make up ground in Final 3. After several overtakes in the pack, he joined Croquison and overtook him to gain a deserved title. 3rd place was decided between Adrien Renaudin (Sodi / Rotax) and Nicolas Picot (Sodi / Rotax) against Victor Compere (FA Kart / Rotax), Thomas Landais (Tony Kart / Rotax) and Romain Jaloux (Tony Kart / Rotax).

OLIVIER PARIS WINS AT HOME A

specialist at the Ancenis circuit, Olivier Paris (Sodi / Rotax) has moved to the top of the hierarchy at the end of qualifying. He maintained a high pace in Final 1, set the fastest race lap and sped to victory at the expense of a chasing pack led by Cyrille ClĂŠmot (Kosmic / Rotax). Final 2 would be much more contested with Jacques Gautier (Sodi / Rotax), Charly Hipp (Tony Kart / Rotax) and Franck Rouxel (Sodi / Rotax) fast. Hipp ended up emerging victorious from this confrontation, but Paris secured a very important 2nd position. Rouxel ended with a success in Final 3 against Gautier and Hipp. This time in 4th place, Paris was crowned with the best combination of the two finals. Hipp was ranked 2nd in the championship ahead of Rouxel and Gautier.

Mixed results at the Hungaroring

G

iuliano Alesi experienced a difficult weekend at the Budapest circuit where the young French driver showed tenacity to overcome his difficulties from the free practice. Despite this slight misstep in his apprenticeship, Giuliano managed to remain among the leading men competing for the title of French Champion. The tight Hungarian track didn't spare Giuliano throughout the fourth round of the seven events that make up the French F4 Championship. From free practice onwards, the legendary circuit of Budapest gave Giuliano a hard time and he encountered some difficulties adapting. With rage and tenacity, Giuliano managed to qualify in the middle of the grid, leaving an opportunity to score points in all three races scheduled. He achieved this in the first race, where he crossed the finish line in 8th. For the second race, Giuliano was on the second row of the grid which he unfortunately couldn't exploit. His motivation was such that he slightly jumped the start, earning him a penalty that destroyed his hopes of a podium.

A few laps later, Giuliano managed to gain an additional position with a spectacular outside pass at a corner with a reputation for complexity. The end of the race allowed Giuliano to emphasize his speed. With impressive lap times, he returned to the front runners but there weren't enough laps to try another attack and Giuliano had to be satisfied with a 6th place with the second best time in the race. Giuliano Alesi: "I'm really disappointed with my weekend in Budapest. From the free practice, I did not find the right rhythm although I was penalised in qualifying I still managed to take a top ten in Race 1 which allowed me to hope for a better result in Race 2. Unfortunately, I make a mistake and I was penalised for a jumped start. In the last race I finally solved all my problems and I managed to finish 6th after having started from 11th place with the second fastest time in the race. I now have a long break but I'll work harder in order to reach Magny Cours even better prepared."

The next event for Giuliano will take place on the weekend of 29th & 30th August at the Magny Cours From the final Sunday race, circuit in the GT TOUR. Giuliano demonstrated his talent to move from 11th to 7th place as early as the first lap of the race.

First win and top three in the F4 Championship

T

he progress of Gabriel Aubry in the last few races has seen a great confirmation in Hungary with his first victory in the 2015 French F4 Championship, a result including the fastest lap and a second podium in the last race.

Ideally placed for the second race of the weekend, Gabriel focused on the decisive starting phase. But Gachot took the lead in the first metres, which for a moment upset the plans of the young Aubry. He pondered, closed up and began to attack to widen the gap early in the race. Darras surprised him when he took As we approach the mid-season, the a little too wide a line, but Gabriel escaped and Championship is getting into it’s stride: carried on inexorably towards his first victory "The gaps are narrowing, and it is more fun, by more than 4'' of his rivals, with the pleasure especially when you can run in the top three!" of having the fastest lap. said Gabriel with his usual mischief. "It was very hot in Budapest, not a cloud, no wind and Aware that the grip was better in the first the sun beating down ... Fortunately I have few laps and the aerodynamic turbulence worked on my fitness, and the temperature did complicated overtaking, Gabriel attacked not bother me. I found the Hungaroring track Fenestraz from lap 1 Turn 3 to stay in the wake very interesting, well adapted to F4, and then of the leader, Moineault. "I kept in touch with running on the rubber of FR 3.5, FR 2.0 and RS Valentin (Moineault) for some time, but when 01: a treat! Taking part in a meeting of the World he really went on the attack, I wasn’t able to Series by Renault with a great atmosphere and keep up. On the other hand I also distanced a lot of spectators is great!" Sacha (Fenestraz), so I could run quietly in 2nd position. " Free practice went very well for the French driver who posted the second fastest time "It was a very good weekend, of course! My at 0.172'' off the best, and confirmed during troubles in race 1 did not in the end hamper me the qualifying session with the 3rd fastest me as much as might have been feared. I am time, 2 thousandths of Fenestraz. Adrenalineis now back in the top three of the championship, however soared before the start of Race 1, that's the main thing. Valentin will be hard to as Gabriel’s car is was alternately restive and dislodge from 1st place, but I have not had my sluggish, from the warm up lap. After returning last word! My biggest regret at this moment is to the pits where the mechanics from the Auto completely missing the race at Le Mans, which Sport Academy quickly solved the problem, has cost me dearly in the standings." Now that Gaby was able to get back on track in last the positions have become clearer, Gabriel can position, however. Deciding not to hold back, give his best for the second part of the season, he pulled out all the stops and moved into the enjoy the races to come and actively prepare top 10 a few laps before the finish. "It became for the future. a little more difficult at the end of the race and I had to take big risks to get to Gachot. I preferred to keep the 10th place that gave me pole for Race 2 due to the reverse grid."

Difficult weekend for Kami Laliberté

A

fter the Hungarian race, Kami's balance sheet of the weekend does not include the objectives he had set. In the scorching weather, the young Canadian driver failed to find the right rhythm in the free practice which affected the rest of the meeting. He leaves World Series by Renault meeting with the goal of doing better at the next meeting, to be held in September on the Magny-Cours circuit at Nevers with the GT Tour. Although Kami Laliberté made his first appearance at the Hungaroring, which hosts the Formula 1 World Championship annually, he had big ambitions for his race weekend after the preparation which he had completed. But in free practice, Kami found the circuit difficult and the incessant qualifying sessions didn't enable him to improve his results and he qualified 14th and 11th, unsatisfactory positions that left him perplexed . At the end of Race 1, Kami was only in 15th place after crashing at halfway with an opponent. In Race 2 on Sunday morning, Kami, starting 15th, succeed in increasing his race pace and succeeded with several overtakes to gain positions and pass the finish line in 12th place. For the last race, Kami was again not spared and racing incidents didn't allow him to finish further up than in 17th position. Kami Laliberté: "I don't have great memories of my weekend in Budapest. It was fantastic to be able to learn the track but unfortunately I never managed to find my marks and I was behind from qualifying for the remainder of the event. I will analyze this setback to avoid making the same mistakes at Magny Cours. I have a big training programme waiting for me during the summer break and I hope it will be beneficial for me the rest of the season."

Spa: the turn of the F3 season

I

n many respects, the 5th round of the 2015 FIA European F3 Championship marks the turning point of the season. For Dorian Boccolacci, the Spa-Francorchamps race remains the first race where he revealed the extent of his talent in F3 including a top five in race 2 and his first championship points. "I now have the feeling of recovering much of my on-track deficit compared to my competitors,” says Lotus F1 Junior Team driver. "Until then, I had always been one step behind. In race 2 I also no longer had a grid penalty for engine replacement. This changes everything and going forward it is all open. Everything is happening in order, I have more experience and the performance is there. My engine is now at the top and Team Signature has done an excellent job as demonstrated by Alexander Albon, 3rd in race 1." Dorian completed top-level performances throughout the weekend on the dizzying 7km Spa-Francorchamps track which he learned on a dry track as in race 2 as well as with changing grip in the other two races. He made a superb start from the 31st position (because of the penalty) in race 1, with seven places gained by the second lap. Dorian then gradually climbed up to 18th position, a total gain of 13 seats. His 9th fastest time in Q2 allowed him to start in the top 10 for the first time in race 2, a necessary condition to obtain a good result. Especially as the incidents and accidents happened at a frantic pace and caused a significant safety car intervention. Dorian took advantage of the disturbances to return to 5th place, while setting the sixth fastest lap of the race. "A top five, which is good for morale, especially as I was the top rookie! I feel liberated after a difficult start to the season, and I have scored my first points in the championship!"

Fought again on a slippery track, race 3 saw even more significant progression for the young driver from the FFSA Equipe de France Circuit. "I got a great start and I moved from 8th to 5th position, including on the outside of Charles Leclerc. I then attacked for 4th at les Combes, but he touched me after I had passed and I went 360. There was nothing I could do, and the driver was sanctioned. Afterwards, I thought about how to avoid such incidents which is necessary to keep performing at this level." Left 17th, Dorian fought to regain places, and finally finished 13th overall this time setting the fifth fastest time of the race. The weekend in the Belgian Ardennes was more than positive for the French Team Signature driver, who is already preparing for the next stage in Germany at the Norisring.

Lando Norris (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport), however, put his spoiler in 4th position on his debut in the ADAC. Eriksson continued his momentum in Race 2 despite a wet track while Norris took advantage of the confusion at the start to pass Shwartzman and grab 2nd position. The reverse grid for Race 3 enabled Norris to quickly move back up to the lead and take an incredible first success in this championship. Joseph Mawson (Van Amersfoort Racing) didn’t let up in 2nd ahead of Shwartzman who was moving towards his third podium of the weekend. Eriksson meanwhile came back from 10th to 4th place.

Beautiful harvest of points at the Noris

L

The sixth round of the F3 European Championship confirmed the big step taken by Dorian Boccolacci at Spa last week. The Lotus F1 Junior Team driver has now made his mark and is increasing the pace at the front of the field with regularity. In the top 10 three times in Germany, he gained five places at once in the championship where he is now ranked 15th.

"The start of the season has been difficult, I sometimes had doubts, but I had to learn the intricacies of driving in F3 and now the work is beginning to pay off,” said the driver from FFSA Team France. "I have a good basis to take the next step. However, I remain cautious in my race strategy, so

many things can happen in the pack. My primary objective is to finish each time to increase my experience. It is very important to achieve good qualifying results to have a chance to do well. At the Norisring, three times I managed to post the 3rd time in my group and the performance gaps to the best are significantly reduced. The racing becomes much more interesting." Located in Germany, near Nuremberg, Norisring is a very special street circuit, the shortest of the season, but the wide track gives good overtaking opportunities, but also a huge risk of contact with safety rails. In general, the meeting went rather better than previous rounds at

Monza and Spa. After enjoying the free practice to familiarise himself with the track, Dorian set excellent times - 7/100 and 3/100 from pole in qualifying, each time 3rd in his group, which enabled him to start 6th in the three races.

Race 1 was held in heavy rain causing many off-track excursions. Dorian managed his pace perfectly despite the poor visibility and limited grip to finish 6th without making a single mistake. In the second race, this time on a dry track, he had to attack to regain the lost places, especially when an opponent pushed him into the first corner. Running 13th

COLACCI

sring

on the third lap, he went up to 8th at the finish line despite several interventions of the safety car, with the third best time. The podium was a serious prospect in race 3, from 6th. Dorian did not attempt to gain an advantage over his teammate who was delayed on the first lap and then prepared to go on the attack, but the safety car interventions twice stopped him in his tracks. He was then hampered by Jake Dennis who closed the doors in front of him. "I saw that Ferrucci was back behind me, I absolutely had to try to overtake Dennis, but I slightly touched in passing. The

team then advised me to let Dennis by to avoid a penalty, while I was 5th and close to the top group. Unfortunately the British driver had lost ground and it cost me several places." 8th at the finish, Dorian still scored important points for the third time this weekend and moved up to 15th position in the championship. "My car is becoming more competitive. Team Signature has worked hard. We have a few small details to refine, but the foundation is now

very developed. There is a great atmosphere in the team. My teammate Alexander Albon does not hesitate share his experience, even though I am getting closer to his performance. We are all ona an upward spiral, which is a great prospect for the future!" The next meeting is in Holland on the Zandvoort circuit on 10th to 12th July.
