Introduction In Nigeria clean water or drinking water is scarce, the population are forced to resort to drinking dirty, contaminated water from wells and bore-holes. This often leads to infectious diseases, above all diarrhea, which by children already suffering from malnutrition can result in death within a few days.
Introduction 72 out of 1000 children under the age of five die as a result of consuming unclean water.
Context Nigeria’s river is heavily contaminated though mineral oil. Between 1976 and 2001 a large quantity of mineral oil was allowed to flow uncontrolled into the river. This resulted in a major health hazard for the already poor people of Nigeria.

User Our target group is the population of West Africa, with our main focus on Nigeria – where the people have little access to clean drinking water. A survey carried out in 2010 by Unicef showed that only 58% of the population had access to clean water.

Elevator Pitch We develop a mobile application which will enable to establish the quality of drinking water and will lead to an internet presence with an interactive network. This can also be used as a source of information concerning the theme »Drinking Water« and will be available for free. We will also make public a simple to build microscope for less than ten dollars that will enable dangerous bacteria to be found in drinking water and therefore establish if the water is safe to drink.
