TECH TALK This project was done in NJ. It required 700 square yards of Dynasty, one of our Wilton products. The local dealer installed it via direct glue down method. I was called to the project after the initial install because the customer complained that the pattern was bowed and looked terrible.

I took a chalk line and measured the bow. It was 1.5” (still within the the CRI tollerence level of 2” in the 13 ft. width). The situation should have been able to be corrected by the installer, via power stretching (on dry concrete, no glue) and straightening the lines up before he proceeded to install. Thankfully, we were able to professionally rip up the entire carpet from the sub floor, due to the fact that the installer used an entry grade multipurpose adhesive, that barely held the carpet down.

We proceeded to skim coat the concrete floor and open all 5 sheets side by side. We then ran a chalk line from one side of the project to the other, across all 5 sheets, stretching it with the power stretcher to get the design straight. We repeated this approximately every 3 ft. or so, until we did the entire length of the carpet. After we were done stretching it, we continued to fold the carpet and glue it down, using a premium multipurpose adhesive. At the same time, we kept checking that the lines were straight, and stretched it again wherever necessary. Lastly, we rolled the carpet with a 75lb. roller to make sure that the glue transferred properly into the carpet’s integral backing. The customer was thrilled!
