Halal Comittee Jamiat Ulama-E-Maharashtra, IN India’s most established sole Halal certifier
Jamiat Ulama-E-Hind has been working since 1919 and is still active till today. A number of Muslim organizations were present right up till 1947 in India, but many soon vanished, leaving only Jamiat Ulama- E- Hind to survive within India’s common community. It remained the only organization to help Muslims after the partition of the country, and it will be working tomorrow Insha Allah, for the cause of Islam and their motherland.

Jamiat Ulama-E-Maharashtra (Jamiat) is state unit of Jamiat Ulama-E-Hind, a national, non profit making organization representing the Muslim community of India since 1919. The Halal Committee of Jamiat Ulama-E-Maharashtra looks after all matters pertaining to the general application of the term Halal with specific reference to Islamic dietary laws. Jamiat’s membership comprises of leading theological bodies and professional individuals of the country, enjoying a worldwide recognition as the only national body from India authorized to do Halal certification of Indian products for export to overseas markets. Jamiat has been established as a representative authority, which promotes professionalism and excellence in the certification of Halal food and other related products. It is also committed to standardizing Halal procedures both nationally and internationally and thereby creating uniformity and eliminating confusion and deception in the marketplace. This strategy not only proved to be beneficial for Muslim consumers in general, it also allows the promotion of trade locally and internationally since Halal accreditation adds value to businesses and allows the certified client to capitalise on local and international markets.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS • Jamiat Ulama-E-Maharashtra is the only Halal certifier accepted and recognised by Malaysia’s JAKIM and Department of Veterinary Services (D.V.S.) and South Africa’s SANHA • Its parent organisation, Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind, has a rich history of championing the cause for India and Muslims in India dating back to 1801. It was the only organisation to help the Muslims in India after the partition of the country which resulted in the forming of Pakistan. • The Halal Committee-JUM reviews products, ingredients used in it, processing and hygiene as well as sanitation procedures. They also provide training on various topics within Halal to key personnel.
