Championship Tradition Kansas State has one of the most tradition-rich men’s basketball programs in the nation. From famed players such as Bob Boozer, Rolando Blackman, Mitch Richmond and Michael Beasley to legendary head coaches Jack Gardner, Fred ‘Tex’ Winter, Lowell ‘Cotton’ Fitzsimmons and Jack Hartman, Kansas State has one of the nation’s proudest traditions in men’s basketball. The program was rated among top 30 all-time by two groups, including 22nd by Street & Smith’s in its publication titled the “100 Greatest College Basketball Programs of All-Time” and 27th by ESPN in its college basketball encyclopedia, which chronicles the complete history of men’s basketball. The Wildcats have been playing the game since 1902 and have racked up over 1,500 victories, 27 NCAA Tournament appearances and 20 conference championships. The program has advanced to the Sweet 16 on 16 occasions, while making 11 trips to the Elite Eight and four ventures to the game’s ultimate destination, the Final Four. Along the way, K-State has captured the passion of its fans, as the Wildcats have played before hundreds of sellouts crowds at its legendary home venues - Nichols Gym, Ahearn Field House and now, Bramlage Coliseum.
