Guatemala Holds Back Hai

United States Men Too Much for St. Lucia

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 15, 2014) – Guatemala overpowered Hai 25-17, 25-20, 25-8 on Thursday evening to begin the Men’s NORCECA World Championship Qualifica on Third-Round Pool O Tournament being held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Moises Reyes led Guatemala with 16 points, while Andy Leonardo tacked on 14 points. Jeyson Nery collected 13 points in the victory. Roudolphe Wilems Gaethan paced Hai with nine points. Guatemala out-blocked Hai 9-3 in the victory and held a 4-0 margin in aces. Guatemala will face tournament host United States on Friday at 7 p.m. MT. Hai will challenge St. Lucia at 5 p.m. MT. Guatemala Head Coach David Aldana Perez: (On team ge ng stronger in each set) Confidence is important but it needs to come out gradually. You don’t want to be overconfident. We are expec ng the USA to be super high in terms of compe on. We are hoping we can match their compe veness. And against St. Lucia as well. We know that as the tournament goes on we are going to have to step up our game even higher. “ Guatemala Se er Gerardo Gonzalez: In the first set we were a li le nervous ge ng started, but by the third set we were totally confident and ended up playing really well. Carson Clark produced a match-high 12 points for the U.S. and Reid Priddy totaled 11 points in the victory. St. Lucia’s Joseph Clercent and Julian Bisse e notched six points each in the loss.
