South Pontotoc has hit a growth spurt. The Cougars started pre-season workouts with only seven seniors on their 52-player roster. But coach Roger Chism, in his third year in charge of the program, said they are all bigger and stronger. On the offensive line, for example, players have packed on from 20 to 35 pounds. And he said it’s all muscle. “We had to get stronger in the weight room, and we dedicated ourselves to that,” said Chism, who started the school’s powerlifting program 14 years ago. “We had to get more physical, and we’re doing that. We’ve had a year of growth and put on a lot of mass.”
