State and local politicians want to make it easier to raise our taxes.

The politicians are trying to raise our taxes. Join our taxpayer coalition to stop them.

Politicians are using a loophole to pass hidden taxes Instead of controlling waste and spending, the politicians would rather raise taxes on California families. They found a loophole that allows them to raise taxes by calling them fees. This lets them circumvent our Constitution and avoid a local public vote or the 2/3 legislative vote required for new or higher taxes.

We all want on-time, balanced budgets, but Prop 25 makes things worse

Protect our right to vote on taxes

The same politicians who got us into our budget mess with uncontrolled spending are behind Prop 25, which lowers the vote requirement to pass the state budget from 2/3 to a bare majority vote.

Prop 26 closes this loophole and protects our right to vote on local tax increases. It means politicians have to get our approval before they can pass these hidden taxes on products we use every day like food, beverages, gas and electricity. We’re already struggling to make ends meet and in this economy, we can’t afford more taxes.

The problem is not how many votes it takes to pass a budget, it’s the politicians in Sacramento and their special interest friends. We need to clean house in Sacramento, not make it easier for these same politicians to pass budgets that aren’t really balanced.

Makes it easier for politicians to increase their expense accounts The politicians pushing Prop 25 say it will cut their pay if the budget isn’t passed on time. But the fine print actually lets them increase their lavish expense accounts with a bare majority vote instead of the current 2/3. They’ll make even more under 25 than they do now!

Prop 25 makes it easier for politicians to raise our taxes

Another hidden provision amends our Constitution to let politicians raise our taxes with a bare majority vote - making it easier for them to raise income tax, sales tax and even taxes on our homes. Instead of raising our taxes, politicians need to control spending and force the state to live within its means, just like families do every day.

“Proposition 25 means higher taxes, more deficits, no accountability for politicians and more wasteful spending.” Jon Coupal, President Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association
