LABOUR NEWS JOHN LYONS TD Dublin North West Autumn 2011

LANESBOROUGH PARK ISSUES At a recent meeting of for Parliamentary Representatives at Fingal County Council, Minister Roisin Shortall and I raised the issue of the current status of Lanesborough Park with the County Manager. The County Manager replied: ‘The main open space in Lanesborough is made up of 3 adjoining sections which were each provided by a different developer 1. Unigold developed the majority including the pitch which was taken in charge by the Council 3 years ago. 2. A section which was originally under Empire Homes is undeveloped (no railings, paths or planting) but was taken in charge by the Council as a result of a court case action. 3. The southern section is in the ownership of Dolminack and is not taken in charge. Both Dolminack (developer) and LM Construction (builder) have ceased trading. The land referred to in No. 3 above is not maintained by the Council and is being dealt with as a Planning Enforcement issue. The solicitor acting for developer in liquidation has also been contacted but no reply has been forthcoming. Until such time as the issue is resolved, the land at the southern end of the park (and to the north of the main park across the road), remains private property. A map outlining the area in the main park has been inserted below for ease of reference. (See below) With regard to the park area which is under the control of the Council, this area and its environs is litter picked on a regular basis and a grass cutting schedule is also in place.’ I have stated in previous leaflets that this situation needs to be resolved to improve the amenity of the park. I had contacted Fingal about issues relating to the park a number of months ago and they responded positively. I have written to them again to seek that this situation be progressed as quickly as possible. If you would like to speak with me about this matter please get in touch at 618 3280 or john.lyons@oir.ie Area outlined in red is not taken in charge by Fingal County Council

Community and Leisure Facilities in Lanesborough The question was also raised about the provision of a community centre in Meakstown. The reply stated: ‘It is the desire of the Council that a Community Centre be delivered for the residents of the Lanesborough/Charlestown area. This will only be possible, however, when the necessary funding is in place. Exploratory discussions had taken place with a local football club, McKelvey Celtic, about the possibility of collaboration in this regard, but this proposal has not progressed. While a possible site has been identified for a Community Centre, due to the current unavailability of necessary funding resources, it is not possible to indicate when progress might be made in this matter.’ I have written to Fingal County Council Sports Development Office on the provision of and access to, sports and leisure facilities in Meakstown. I particularly want to focus on access to sports and leisure activities for young people. I would welcome any ideas or feedback from residents on this subject. Please contact me on 618 3280 or john.lyons@oir.ie.

Lanesborough Park Community Clean Up Day: Saturday October 8th 11.00am Following the encouraging response I received to this suggestion in my last leaflet, I have organised a park clean-up day on Saturday October 8th. Fingal County Council have said they will support the clean up by providing equipment and removing any litter gathered. However, they have stressed this is not intended to be a junk collection, or to be used to removed bulky waste or to put out household waste. I hope this day is a success and want to invite all residents to attend. We will be meeting behind the fitness centre at the park at 11.00am and I hope the local Community Gardaí will also be in attendance to meet residents.
