What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Conde nast is a very highly established media institution with many leading fashion magazine, including Vogue and Glamour, two magazines which I have compared my own product against. Vogue is one of the largest fashion magazines to be consumed worldwide. Being a reader of Vogue myself, it commonly has loose advertisements, containing information of other magazines that also share the same publishers. I believe my magazine ‘LUXE’ suits the conventions of Conde Nast as I believe my magazine has to offer fashion, sophistication and a very high feminine attribute which is what conde nast look for in a product. However there is a niche within conde nast as the average age of a Vogue reader is 34, this is way off the age range of my target audience. Furthermore conde nast don’t have a magazine that features both fashion and music and I believe this is where my magazine comes in. Being a teenage girl I believe these two elements are the two most highest to my target audience. I would like to have my magazine be published by someone like Comag, as if I were to self-publish my magazine it would be a lot harder for me to get it on the market and to be highly successful with it. Using a publishing house would increase my chances of the magazine being more successful as they know how the industry works. However there can be lack of control over advertisements and article conten when dealing with publishing houses, therefore resulting in the loss of the magazines original persona. I have chosen Comag as a distributer as it is jointly owned by National Magazine Company and Conde Nast, therefore directly linking the two together. Comag is a large distributing company, showing the distributers power in the market. This assumes my magazine will be well distributed as they state that they deal with retailers, wholesalers and news agents.

I wouldn’t rule out the distribution via digital sources, as the growth in digital media is getting more and more popular. I think a good place to start would be the Apple’s App Store, creating an application for my magazine would be a quick and easy process for both the magazine and target audience. This will also allow me to create a competitive market with brands such as Vogue, Elle and Glamour. As my target audience uses smart phones more often these days, by placing it on the App Store would be a successful start.
