Course Descriptions:

The classes are divided by grade level and cover a multitude of topics across a variety of content areas. Classes will be held at BFCCPS’ main building as well as the Red Brick School. A class description, date and time is listed for each class. With the exception of private music lessons, courses are $100 per week.

Lunch:

For those students that attend both a morning and afternoon summer class, time will be set aside in the afternoon session for a lunch break. Students will eat lunch in their classroom with the afternoon session teacher and students. Please send a lunch with your child if desired.

Registration Information: Registrations are on a first-‐-‐-‐come, first-‐-‐-‐serve basis. The registration forms can be found in this packet, within Ben’s Buzz Weekly Newsletter, and will be posted on the school website at www.bfccps.org. Please return the registration form and tuition to the BFCCPS main office no later than June 10th. If you are registering for classes from multiple teachers, please make sure to include one check per teacher. Once the registration form and tuition have been received by the teacher, they will send you a registration confirmation via kid mail and/or email. Classes will be canceled if a minimum registration is not achieved. All classes must be paid for at the time of registration. No refunds for classes will be processed after June 15th. If a class does not run due to low enrollment you will be notified by June 14th.

Please note that the grade levels listed are for the grade the student will be entering in the fall.

Morning Session: 9:30AM -‐ Noon Crochet Class Open to students in Grades 2 - 8 Mrs. Moguaro Beginner crochet class is offered on July 14 - July 17. During this class, you will be taught the basics of crocheting. You will learn how to cast on (magic ring) and how to begin, end each row and begin another. You will also be able to choose your own yarn color (which I will provide) along with crochet hooks. Crocheting uses one hook instead of knitting, which uses 2-4 needles. This is much simpler than knitting to beginners. The class will offer your child the art of crocheting flowers, coasters and we will work with making minion eyes for those still crazy about the ‘Minions.’ I am excited to share this experience with you! If you are interested in learning and being creative in a different setting, then this class is perfect! Please email Mrs. Moguaro if you have any questions jmoguaro@bfccps.org

Claymation Class Open to students in Grades 5 - 8 Mrs. Word Claymation is a stop-motion type of animation that highlights storytelling and filmmaking elements such as screenwriting, lighting, sounds, camerawork, and editing. This course will teach students how to design characters and scenes, incorporate props, and reinforce elements of plot: exposition, initiating event, rising actions, conflict, climax, falling actions, and resolution. Students will complete a short stop-action film based on a story, book, or graphic novel that they will bring to the class. Clay and tools will be available for students, but they are encouraged to bring their own as well.

Drama Kids Playhouse: Super Hero Adventures Open to students aged 5 - 11 Drama Kids International: Susie Pallis and staff

Everyone loves to be the hero or the villain. This week in camp we will play with the ideas of the heroes and villains and create our own play based on our own Super Hero characters. Please note: you can combine the morning and afternoon sessions for full day coverage.

Star Wars K-5 students Mme. Canning Would you like to play with Star Wars action figures and toys? Make light sabers? Play Star Wars dodge ball, games and fun activities all centered around the Star Wars movies and characters? Then this is the camp for you and your friends! We will eat lunch at noon and have a morning and afternoon frozen treat to take a break from playing! Morning and afternoon sessions will be comprised of different activities so register for both sessions, or just for half a day if that works better for you. May the Force Be With You! Welcome to Kindergarten! Incoming Kindergarten Students Mrs. Frongillo Children will be introduced to the wonderful world of kindergarten while having a blast! We will play various games, read several books, and take part in many science experiments, art activities, and more

Afternoon Session: Noon -‐ 2:30 PM CPR / First Aid For rising 6-9th graders BFCCPS Nurses American Heart Association Heartsaver Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED + First Aid If you are a rising 6 - 9th grader, Mrs. Auerr and Mrs. Williams, your School Nurses and American Heart Association certified instructors, would like to welcome you to our CPR and First Aid course this summer! In this course tailored for middle-school students like you, you will learn and practice how to: • potentially save the life of someone whose heart has stopped beating by o performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, “CPR”, o and also using an automated external defibrillator, “AED”. • recognizing emergency situations and learn how to respond, including o giving an Epi-Pen o providing First Aid safely and effectively, and o doing and saying what is needed when calling 911. Class-size is limited, so sign-up early to reserve your spot! In order to cover the cost of the American Heart Association student workbook, and a good CPR mask (which you will use for practice during class, and again if you ever need to perform CPR), there is an additional fee of $20 (so the course will cost $128).

Additionally, if you are 12 years old by the end of the class, for $8, we can issue you a Heartsaver Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED + First Aid certification card, good for two years, which you can show to families for whom you babysit, or to organizations for whom you volunteer or work. (so the course + card = $133). You do not need the card to be able to perform CPR or First Aid, and you do not need to be 12 to take the class.

Private Instrumental Music Lessons with Mr. Benjamin and Mr. Heater

6/29/16– 8/13/16 Mondays---‐Thursdays

Individual Half-Hour Lessons available between 8 AM and 3 PM. For currently enrolled students in Grades 4 through 8 The success of our band and music program relies on the students continuing instrumental lessons during the summer vacation to continue their personal growth and retention of instrumental musical skills and performance levels presented during the school year. The private lesson program being offered here at the Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School will be open to students currently enrolled in the instrumental program and children of the faculty and staff of BFCCPS. Lessons will be on a private basis (student and teacher) on a 1/2 hour per week basis. Summer lessons will be taught Monday through Thursday at the school between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Schedules will vary with the instrumental faculty members. The program will begin on Monday, June 20, 2016 and run for 7weeks ending August 11, 2016. Vacations are not a problem. Notification to the teacher of vacation weeks is all that is required. Students will benefit with even a few lessons. The cost of the program is $20.00 per lesson. This will be payable directly to the teacher on a weekly basis at the lesson time. If interested in registering for the program, simply fill out the lesson form included in this packet. Clip and send the form to Mr. Benjamin at school by June 1st. The teachers will contact the individual students and parents to set up the schedule.
