The Bowling Green State University football team surrendered 21 unanswered points to fall 27-20 versus Missouri in Columbia, Mo., in front of 65,401.

Behind first-year head coach Dave Clawson, the Falcons surrendered a 14-0 deficit early in the second quarter, but touchdowns by Barnes in the second and third quarter, followed by a Jerry Phillips field goal in the fourth gave the Falcons the lead for good.

BGSU (1-1) got on the scoreboard first as senior quarterback Tyler Sheehan led the Falcons on a 10 play 80 yard drive, capped by a 12-yard score from Sheehan to Ray Hutson in the first quarter. It was Hutson’s first career touchdown.

After allowing 210 yards of offense in the first half, BGSU surrendered just 94 yards and four first downs in the game’s final 30 minutes.

The Falcon defense, which played stellar throughout most of the game, held MU’s Gabbert to a modest day connecting on 20 of 33 pass for 172 yards, keeping the Tigers out of the end zone for the entire first half. MU’s only points came on field goals of 38 and 46 yards.

Chris Bullock added a one-yard plunge midway through the final quarter and sophomore Adrien Spencer returned a 64 yard interception for a score with just over two minutes remaining to cap the scoring.

BGSU opened the second half with an 11 play, 73 yard drive, capped by a one-yard score from Willie Geter to give the Falcons a 20-6 lead with 9:44 remaining in the third quarter. Geter finished the day with 99 yards on the ground.
