PADDLE BOARD CARE & MAINTENANCE

IMPORTANT DIRECT SUNLIGHT MAY DESTROY YOUR PADDLE BOARD. Even mild sunlight can damage a board if left in the direct sunlight for a period of time. On a mild day in the mid to high 70’s, the inside of a car can reach 170° F. Never leave exposed to direct sunlight when out of the water. Always keep in the shade when not in the water. At approximately 165° F all EPS foam begins to out gas and become unstable. If you must expose your board to direct sunlight during transport or temporary storage, it is safest to keep the white (bottom) facing up. Never leave a deck pad exposed and facing the sun if it is dry. The effects of heat absorption are amplified when Deck pads are left facing the sun. Overheating your paddle board is not covered by manufacturing warranty!

STORAGE

SEC TION 2

DO NOT STORE YOUR PADDLE BOARD IN A BOARD BAG FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME. Bags are intended to be used for transportation protection, not full time storage. Prolonged storage of a wet board in a wet board bag will have adverse effects on the finish of your board, leading to the possibility of mold, and osmotic blisters if left in hot moist environments. Storing your board in direct sunlight in a board bag is not the same as putting it in the shade. Board bags will collect heat and potentially cook your board.

MAINTENANCE Sun, sand and saltwater will degrade any man-made material over time. Rinse off sand and saltwater deposits from your paddle board with fresh water and store in a cool, dry environment after each use.

VENT PLUG/HANDLE USE & MAINTENANCE

The vent plug is located on the handle. The vent plug regulates the air pressure contained within the water tight skin of the paddle board. Some OTTER models may come equipped with a “self-breathing” vent plug cap. Refer to the illustrations below to determine which type of vent plug cap your paddle board features for proper use and care.

STANDARD CAP VENTING

IMPORTANT

Handle

Close the vent plug before each use. Open the vent plug after each use. Regulating the internal air pressure of your paddle board is the most important maintenance task involved with your stand-up paddle board. Opening the air vent allows air to escape freely to avoid over pressurization. Neglecting the air vent maintenance may compromise the integrity of the water tight skin or cause severe delamination. Leaving the air vent open while in use will allow water and moisture to enter the foam core resulting in a heavy, “waterlogged paddle board.

SELF-BREATHING CAP VENTING

Handle

IMPORTANT Regulating the internal air pressure of your paddle board is the most important maintenance task involved with your stand-up paddle board. “Self-Breathing” caps feature a GoreTex® membrane that allows air to permeate freely through the vent while preventing water and other molecules from entering the paddle board. While “Self-Breathing” caps minimize damage caused by pressurization and heat, it is important that you:

FIN CARE & MAINTENANCE

A

A

Keep your fins in good condition by removing them after each use. Storing your fins in fitted bags is an excellent way to keep them damage-free. A damaged fin may dramatically reduce the paddle boards performance. Damage to the fin incurred while attached to the paddle board may result in severe damage to the fin box, the water tight skin and the foam core. Attach the fin firmly before you go riding.

TRANSPORTATION GUIDELINES TIPS FOR SAFE TRANSPORT

IMPORTANT PADDLE BOARD SHOULD BE PLACED BOTTOMSIDE-UP WHEN SECURING TO ROOF OF VEHICLE. OVER TIGHTENING STRAPS MAY RESULT IN PRESSURE DINGS PADDED ROOF STRAPS ARE RECOMMENDED OVER NONPADDED NYLON STRAPS.

When securing your paddle board to the roof of a vehicle, always place the board bottomside-up. Placing the board topside-up will create wind drag and instability while driving. Placing board nose forward or tail-forward are both acceptable means of transport .
