movies on Fridays at Donkey Creek Park and family favorites on Saturdays at Skansie Brothers Park, both on a big screen — and for free. For a more rustic but just-as-fun outdoor movie experience, head to Key Peninsula’s Volunteer Park. Every Friday in August, Cinema Under the Stars brings families together for a dusk screening.

Live music A dinner date or a drink on the town is certainly more enjoyable when good company and good music are present. Many local establishments schedule live music all year long. Here’s a sample:

FORZA COFFEE, every Friday and Saturday starting at 7 p.m. MORSO WINE BAR, days vary, check schedule at www.morsowinebar.com. HALF-TIME SPORTS SALOON, karaoke and live music on alternating Saturdays starting at 9 p.m. FLOATATION DEVICE BAR AND GRILL, Saturdays starting at 9 p.m. LELE THAI & VIETNAMESE CUISINE, Fridays and Saturdays (month-by-month basis). Theater and music performances The liveperformance season lasts all year long in Gig Harbor, as several drama and music organizations showcase local talent. PARADISE THEATRE’S repertoire ranges from classics such as “Willie Wonka” and “Annie” to Broadway revivals such as “Sweet Charity.” In addition to the high-quality community theater, Peninsula and Gig Harbor high schools both have excellent drama programs that stage public productions during the school year. In the summer, Sehmel Homestead Park’s amphitheater is home to outdoor performances, many of which feature kids. GIG HARBOR SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, GIG HARBOR CIVIC ORCHESTRA, PENINSULA YOUTH ORCHESTRA, PENINSULA COMMUNITY CHORUS AND KEY SINGERS each stage a few concerts every year, putting the spotlight on the local stars.
