PRIORITY FOCUS T here will always be more good ideas than there is the ability to execute. – Excerpt from The 4 Disciplines of Execution

S

uccessful business managers know that because there is a limit to their abilities - time constraints, financial obligations, inventory equipment and personnel – some ideas must be given greater attention than others. Because not all good ideas are good for business, managers must identify and prioritize the ideas that will do the most good. The good ideas must be given the most attention. The good ideas must be made a priority. Managers must then make time for the priority ideas each week, if not each day. Making time for priorities shows a focus on the growth and development of the business. Focus can be aided by written goals for each priority; benchmarks for success. Focused and successful managers will schedule and complete each task on a priority list.

These goals, benchmarks, and scheduled tasks will help to clearly define the target and help turn the good idea into a benefit for the business. When managers determine which ideas will be given priority, they should focus on the purpose above the need. Purpose is stronger than need. Managers should look at their tasks, and convey assignments to others, as more than just a task. Each task is a step in the accomplishment of a goal, a focus on proprieties, and something that is part of a larger purpose. Purpose is something managers and employees are a part of. Purpose pulls us through the task. It is more than motivation; it gives participants an answer to “why”. A focus on priority is the result of a series of good business decisions. It starts with good ideas, planning and strategy. It

moves to the identification of the ideas that will do the most good. Then the ideas are given time and attention to develop, with specific tasks to accomplish in pursuit of the goal. The purpose of the task is shared with everyone who participates, and ultimately, the original list of good ideas evolves into a successful action plan that is actively and consistently benefits the business.

You must make time for the priority work each week. Focus starts with written goals that clearly define your target. Focus happens when you schedule and complete work on the next step.

Purpose is stronger than need. Need pushes us. Purpose pulls us. Purpose is the “why.” A strong enough purpose will pull us through all the trials and tribulations. Purpose makes us define in advance, what will need to be sacrificed to achieve the goal. Make your purpose visual through a picture of your vision. – Rick Forster

PASSION persuades. – Anta Roddick

ADVERTISING RESOURCE GUIDE

Like it never even happened.速

Dear Mr. Turner,

I

want to take this opportunity to thank you for the professionalism I received from your Hicksville/Plainview franchise when the Homewood Suites by Hilton in Carla Place NY experienced a catastrophic loss due to a sprinkler head malefaction that took place on the fourth floor of the Hotel. From the first call to Servpro placed that evening, which resulted in a 35 minute response time, by the Project Manager David Ricci, who was on-site assessing damage and coordinating crews and equipment within an hour of the call. Mr. Ricci, along with Ms Kluger walked thru the entire site with our staff and explained in detail what and how the mitigation was to happen. Attention to detail and realizing the importance of keeping the floors accessible to guest while having 30-man crew working 24/7. Everyone on the crew was polite and worked efficiently to effectively dry down all four floors while maintaining a safe working environment. They even had personnel on site Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to monitor equipment. The final day of mitigation as Servpro was packing up, we had yet another sprinkler head break and your Project Manager was onsite with a crew in minutes and was able to save multiple rooms from being affected. From the owner, Risa Kluger, down to the last crew onsite; it was obvious the training and conduct of the company was purely professional. Thank you and especially to the Hicksville/Plainview franchise for helping us through a disaster that surely could have been worse had we not called Servpro.

JULY 2014 - 7

Gil Morrissey, SERVPRO of Western Dutchess County and Marketing Manager, Kelly Morrissey Gamma sponsored an Oscar Themed Golf Event, which captured a photo of each foursome in some of the SERVPRO Gear. Each photo was made into a movie poster. The best picture nominated movie was called "SERVPRO: Like it never even happened."

Whoever had the "Best Picture" won tickets to see JOURNEY in concert at a local venue Golfers were given popcorn in green and orange striped boxes, a bottle of water, and a shot named after a classic movie related to SERVPRO services: • Rain Man (Water)- Blue Hawaii Shot • Backdraft (Fire) - Bahama Mama • The Perfect Storm (Hurricane, Flooding and Disaster Services) - SERVPRO GREEN! Everyone seemed to get a real kick out of it!
