General Manager’s Letter: I can’t believe we are actually in the Holiday Season and soon to see snow fly! The golf season went by so quickly, it seems like just yesterday we had our Labor Day celebration and closed Jeff Beier & his the pool for the fall. son, Nolan One question I seem to hear fairly often is ‘how are we doing this year?’ usually referring to the business, membership and growth of the Club. Seeing as we are almost complete with 2015, this newsletter is the perfect avenue to give everyone an update!

It was nearly a year ago that we partnered with Coastway Community Bank which allowed us to formally do the renovation. Tough to believe, but the renovation was completed 6 months ago, and we have received rave reviews from local and national publications! Not to mention the positive feedback I constantly hear from all of you about the functional new space we have.

‘family friendly’ atmosphere and platform. That platform allowed us to grow the Club by 75 new members so far this year! A lot of those new members came as referrals from you, and I can’t thank you enough. In all honesty, Alpine went through a lot of change in 2014/2015. With that change there is always risk, and we are happy to report we are healthier financially this year than we were in 2014!

Lastly, I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who took the time to complete a survey. We had over 100 surveys submitted and we are taking those results very seriously. In many ways, it is an opportunity to look at how we budget and execute our plans for this fall and 2016. As the leaders are acting on the feedback, we will keep you informed as to what changes are taking place.

Thank you for a great year and we look forward to many more ahead!

Golf Shop News

Scott’s Divots

Snap, Crackle, Pop… We’re having a Balloon Sale in the SHOP!

We are rapidly coming down the home stretch of 2015. The season was very different from what we have become used to. After a cold and snowy winter in early 2015, we had two extreme dry periods this summer where both Texas and Arizona saw more rain than we did! Our second drought period really hurt as we were low on available irrigation water to keep up with the needs of the turf. For the first time in ten years we had to ration our water on the golf course to preserve our main areas of play; which lasted into the beginning of October.

From December 4th - 6th we will be having a Balloon Sale in the Golf Shop. Come down to the Shop, do your shopping, and when you check out you will get to choose a balloon to pop. Inside each balloon will be a random discount that you get to apply towards your purchase. The discount amounts will range from 20%-100% off! Make sure you stop in and test your luck! Now that the season is coming to an end, it’s time to take advantage of our Simulator in Pub Amici for those that don’t want to forget their golf swing during the winter. Not only can you play 18 holes at Pebble Beach or TPC Sawgrass when there is a foot of snow on the ground, but you can also take lessons with our Director of Golf, Brian Schaffer! You can make your own tee time online or by calling the golf shop. For booking a lesson on the Simulator please call the golf shop or email Brian directly at bschaffer@AlpineCC.com.

Alpine’s New Property Controller We would like to welcome Paul Rendine, our new Property Controller.

Paul with his wife, Patricia and children, Samantha and Greggory.

My name is Paul Rendine and I currently reside in Wakefield, Rhode Island with my wife, Patricia and my two children, Samantha and Greggory. My daughter is a freshman at Seton Hall University and my son is a junior at South Kingstown High School. I currently hold a Master’s of Science degree in Administration, which I obtained from Central Michigan University. I also hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from Providence College. I have twenty plus years of accounting, finance and management experience. My current interests are playing tennis, watching and attending college basketball games, playing golf and reading.

Here is what we expect from the golf course. The staff, after working hard to keep things together this summer, had to work twice as hard to get aerification and seed work done before the end of October. The result will be weather dependent, if the weather stays warm enough for seed to germinate we will see turf filling in. If it gets cold early we may not see recovery till mid to late spring, possibly sodding spots in some of the main play areas. Stay tuned. We are also getting the property ready for winter: clean up, fall fertilization, blowing out the irrigation system, and snow mold controls will all be done before the snow flies. While our mechanic staff readies the equipment for spring, I will be getting the snow clearing equipment together to hopefully sit idle while we enjoy a warm, snow free winter. I can always dream! Homeowner Tips! If you happen to take care of your own lawn at home: Your last mowing should be a little tighter than summer so leaf blades are not folded over by snow (I thought you said it wasn’t going to snow this winter?!) •

Winterize your mower, change oil, use up gas or add stabilizer, sharpen blade for next season

Make sure all debris is cleaned up so turf does not suffocate underneath

Apply a dormant feeding, time it so grass is still green but not growing

After all that work light the fireplace, enjoy a libation and watch football

Have a good holiday season and thank you for your continued support. Yours in golf, Scott Gabrielson, CGCS & The Greens Staff

I also enjoy photography, drawing and watching/playing hockey. What got you interested to work at a country club? Growing up in Colorado, I had heard of Troon and their beautiful courses and clubs. Moving here, I heard about Alpine being managed by Troon and that it was a close-knit family atmosphere. What do you like about The Alpine? Being from a military family that moved around a lot, Alpine is a home away from home for me. It is special to work in a place like this.
