2015 Men’s Tournament Schedule

Welcome to the 2015 Alpine Tournament Season The tournament Committee has been working very hard to make all tournaments a competitive and enjoyable experience for all. This year there are several changes and additions: Ryder Cup Qualifying: An additional Ryder Cup qualifying event will be held on Saturday, May 2nd. This will give members five opportunities to earn Ryder Cup points during the year. There will be no averaging of handicaps to determine divisions (A, B, C and D) for the Ryder Cup. The handicap after the July 15th revision will determine which division each participant will be assigned. The points from the May Ryder Cup Qualifier and President Cup will be calculated after the July 15 th Revision and made public before the Club Championship Qualifier. The Course Handicap will be used for determining Ryder Cup divisions. On line Registrations: On line registrations will continue this year offering our members the ability to sign up for all tournaments via the web site. There will be a tournament tab on the web site that will navigate you to the sign-up sheet for any and all tournaments. Please note there will be deadlines and cut-off dates that must be adhered to. Payment for the tournament will be billed to your account on the tournament cut-off date. For the Founders Cup Member Guest and the Member- Guest, all eligible members will receive an invitation as well as being able to sign up on line.

Eligibility for Tournaments: The following golf classifications will be eligible to play in all men’s tournaments with some exceptions which will be documented on each tournament information sheet:

Vertical Under-25 golfers are children of Stockholders who are full-time students and not married. Vertical Over-25 golfers are other family members that are part of a Stockholder’s membership. This category is permitted to play as a guest in Member/Guest events. Weekly Quota/TOC is the season long event that ends with the Tournament of Champions tournament for Top 16 quota leaders. Alpine Open is a new mixed event that will be open to all members and guests. Details will be announced. Golf classifications may participate in tournaments at the discretion of the Tournament Committee (Pure Golf, Non-Resident, Social, Taste) The Pro Shop will enter tournament scores for all medal play tournaments in the GHIN system.

SPRING MEMBER-MEMBER TOURNAMENT

RULES - First Day On the first day of this tournament, each team will be playing two separate 9-hole formats using 90% of the team’s average handicap. Front 9 - Chapman Format. Each member of the team will hit a drive on each hole. For the second shot, you will hit each other’s drive. The team then selects what ball it wants to play for the balance of the hole. You then alternate shots until the ball is holed. You cannot change balls. You must hit the ball being played- even on the green. Example: A and B both hit drives on hole #1. For their second shots, A hits B’s drive and B hits A’s drive. For their third shot, the team selects which ball it wants to play. If they select the ball last hit by B, then A hits the team’s third shot, B then hits the fourth shot, and so on until the ball is holed. Reminder: This format applies on par 3s also. Back 9 - Scramble Format. Each team member hits a drive. You then select the “best” shot and each team member hits from that spot. This process continues until the ball is holed. In the Scramble Format, you may place the ball within one club length of the ball you select (except on the green). In doing so, you may not go nearer the hole and you must stay in the same cut of grass. For example, you cannot move your ball from the second cut of rough into the first cut even if it is within one club length. The reverse is also true. That is, you cannot place the ball from the fairway into the first cut of rough. Reminder: The formats are governed by what 9 you are playing. In other words, if you are on the back 9, your team will play the Scramble Format and when on the front 9, the Chapman Format. At the end of the round, submit your scorecard showing your team’s gross score. Then deduct the team handicap for your team’s net score.

SPRING MEMBER-MEMBER TOURNAMENT

RULES - Second Day On the second day of this tournament, each team will play two separate 9-hole formats with each individual using their 90% tournament handicap. Front 9 - Best Ball Format. For each hole, record each team member’s individual score the team’s best net score (considering your tournament handicap). For example, if both A and B record a 6 on the fourth hole and B strokes on that hole-based on his tournament handicap-then the scorecard should show a “6” for both A and B, but the team’s score for hole #4 is a “5” which should also be recorded on the card. Back 9 - Aggregate Format With each team member keeping his score until the ball is holed. No one is ever out of the hole. That is, each team member must play his own ball until it is holed. The team’s total score for the Aggregate Format is the total number of strokes for each member of the team less the strokes each member is entitled to utilizing the players’ tournament handicaps. Reminder: The formats are governed by what 9 you are playing. In other words, if you are on the back 9, your team will play the Aggregate Format and when you on the front 9, the Best Ball Format.

1 The Tournament Committee and Handicap Committee have decided that the scores for the second day of the Spring Member-Member will be entered into the computer as a tournament score for handicap purposes. Therefore, each player will be required to turn in a score for the front 9, even though it is a Best Ball Format. To maintain pace of play, if your partner has completed the hole with a score already lower than what you lie, you should record what you reasonably would have scored. (This is consistent with the USGA Equitable Scoring System.) For example, you are on the green in regulation but 20 feet from the hole. Your partner chips in from off the green for a birdie. If you want, you may attempt your birdie putt or mark a par on your scorecard (the reasonable 2 putt from 20 feet).
