Celebration of a Life Lived Well
Donald George McKillop, Founder and President of CAMCAD Technologies, Inc., passed away at his home on May 25, 2022 after a short but intense battle with lung cancer. Don is survived by his wife, Alison McKillop (nee Wildblood); his daughter Kristen McCarty and her husband Steve; his granddaughters Megan and Jenna McCarty; his son Kevin Connolly; sister Carol Harris; brother Bob McKillop; sister Kathy White, sister-in-law Ann Wildblood, and Brother-in-law Harry Wildblood and his wife Karen. Don’s church family has been an important facet of his life since 1991. In the early years he sang bass with the choir, then helped manage the communion supplies and personnel, and for the past several years organized the ushers for church services and conventions.
Donald George McKillop
Don was born in Highland Park, MI, the town Henry Ford built. He loved to sing, and from the time he was in grade school, he sang in a church choir, first as a soprano, and eventually as a bass. He was a member of the Michigan State Choir, which traveled through Europe the summer after he graduated in 1963. At one stop, they were the opening act for the Beatles! This experience sparked Don’s love of travel.

Don entered the apprenticeship program at Ford, and eventually completed the program as a Journeyman Tool and Diemaker. He used one of the first Computer-Aided -Machining, or CAM, software programs installed at Ford. After 10 years plus 1 day, he left Ford and continued to pursue a career in CAM and CNC with multiple companies. In 1991, Don started CAMCAD Technologies Inc., selling and supporting SURFCAM CAM software. Over the years, he built CAMCAD Tech into one of Surfware, Inc.’s top resellers in the US with the help of his excellent technical and sales staff. He was also well known for his edit-free drivers for multi-axis CNC machines. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, professional associates, customers, and all who knew and loved him.

For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 1 Cor 15:21-22 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. Acts 3: 19-21 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. Rev 21:4-5
After Don passed I discovered most of you didn’t even know he was ill. Don was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung cancer in midMarch, but wished to keep it private, except for a few close relatives and friends.

The oncology team gave him a positive prognosis, so he opted to get chemo therapy. He received the first dose on April 15, and it was a rapid downhill from that point. May 3rd, he was admitted to the hospital with Atrial fibrillation , most likely a side effect of Keytruda, according to the doctors. The next 22 days were a whirlwind of emergencies, treatments, and partial recoveries. He came home May 24th and died May 25th. God was very merciful throughout, as Don had wonderful nurses and doctors, and he experienced almost no pain.
