Torah and Tefillah at SKA
T
efillah on the morning of Asara B’Teves, Tuesday, December 22, was especially inspirational at the Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls. Thanks to the efforts of the TTYL (Turning Tefillah Into Your Life) Committee, students had the opportunity to create their dream siddur by choosing four out of twelve prayers taken from spiritual works and putting these tefillot in their own siddurim in the places they are the most meaningful. The tefillah workshops on these topics – Hashem’s will, miracles, guarding one’s speech, among others – helped the students form a greater connection to the words they say every day. SKA’s TTYL Committee, made up of both students and faculty members, is dedicated to making tefillah more meaningful in our lives. The Torah learning the morning before was dedicated l’ilui nishmat Ezra Schwartz, a”h, who was murdered by Arab terrorists in Israel last month. On Monday, December 21, SKA’s SPARKS Committee, a
Torah lishma initiative, divided the Five Chamishei Torah so that every SKA student received a portion to learn. Within two hours, the entire Chumash was completed by the SKA student body. The girls then participated, together with 40 high schools across the world, in an inspiring siyum Mishnayot l’ilui nismat Ezra a”h. The speakers and singing at the
siyum, transmitted in a large screen in the auditorium, created a strong sense of unity and chizuk for everyone in the room. and the SKA SPARKS Committee – Rachel Ash, Ayelet Aharon, Chaya Sorah Bodek, Atara Charnowitz, Devorah Greenberg, Elisheva Greenberg, Shoshana Lunzer, Shira Sasoon, Chanie Schoenfeld, Penina Torczyner and Rivka Zimmerman – for their work in putting the event together.
