It is designed purely for hypersophisticated people who want only the most extreme and special things in the world. It represents hedonism taken to the extreme. Powered by a 5.2-liter V10 engine supplying it with 600 horsepower, the Egoista is an intentionally extreme and unusual vehicle with absolutely unique characteristics, created by the Volkswagen Group design team. De Silva’s team chose to create a single-seater, while pushing all the characteristics in Lamborghini’s make-up, meaning pure driving pleasure, performance and style beyond their limits. The cockpit, designed like a tailor-made suit for the driver, is a removable section. Inspiration comes from the world of aviation, and in particular the Apache helicopter, where the cockpit can be ejected in an emergency.

Conrad New York

A Suite Place to Stay in Manhattan BY TOM ZENNER

n a seemingly endless list of the best things about visiting New York City is the fact that every trip uncovers a new and exciting hidden gem. Maybe it’s a restaurant that just opened that you stumble upon while strolling through a neighborhood. Or a boutique or antique shop that holds the perfect treasure you never knew you really wanted. Or, in the case of Conrad New York, a beautiful, contemporary, all-suite luxury hotel in the heart of Battery Park in lower Manhattan that features impressive views of the Hudson River and impeccable service and amenities that make a stay there a truly enjoyable experience. You’ll start being impressed the moment you arrive, as you are welcomed into a soaring, sunlit 15-story atrium highlighted by a GUDPDWLF EOXH DQG SXUSOH 6RO /H:LWW SDLQWLQJ WKDW ULVHV ÀRRUV above the registration desk, and is one of over 2,000 paintings showcased throughout the property. The LeWitt piece alone required 100 gallons of paint and 3,000 hours to complete, and, like everything about Conrad New York, it showcases a true attention to detail that you’ll notice throughout the property throughout your stay. The hotel strikes a perfect tone of elegance, sophistication, style and lack of pretense, and whether you are in New York for business, shopping, sightseeing, a Broadway show or something else, it’s impossible not to appreciate the fact that all 463 rooms are spacious suites. As any discerning traveler knows, that fact alone is a rarity in itself in a ZRUOG FODVV FLW\ DQG HDFK JXHVW VXLWH LQFOXGHV WZR ÀDW SDQHO televisions along with one-touch technologies. ocated only an hour and a half by plane from Paris and about 60 miles from the Marseille airport, Bandol is a little paradise village on the French Riviera’s Mediterranean coastline.

Bandol is a true seaside resort and one of France’s favorite places to vacation during the summer. Those who can come to visit the Bandol area will be able to idle away the time exploring the twisting little narrow roads that climb up the hillsides in ϐ Ǥ “domaines” to “châteaux” (wine producing estates). There are only twenty of them and they are all just next door to one another. This “Bandol wine appellation” is just making its way out into the

Watches produced by Patek are considered by many collectors to be recession proof. Patek offers an extensive collection of watches including the Calatrava, Twenty4, Golden Ellipse, Gondolo, Aquanaut, Nautilus and, of course, its complicated watches including Grand Complications that feature celestial charts, minute repeaters and perpetual calendars.

In the Patravi TravelTec FourX Limited Edition model, the watchmakers at Carl F. Bucherer bring together not only different time zones but also different worlds — worlds of exquisite materials. Fine 18K rose gold, paired with extra-hard. hightech ceramic, sets the highest standards in the time-consuming process of forming the bezel. And high-quality titanium and highly-resistant rubber also play their role in an extraordinary overall concept. Together, these four very different materials add yet another dimension to the fourth dimension of time: exclusivity. As far as its “instrument look” is concerned, this watch has nothing to hide. For this reason, the watchmakers have given it a skeletonized dial permitting a free view of the gearing of the painstakingly decorated automatic movement. Art, Peace Harmony

&

at Hong Kong’s Imperial Museum BY JOSEPH MANQUEROS AND SERINA BAUER MANQUEROS

“O

ur exhibits will promote peace and harmony within and beyond our borders, regardless of differences, for the common good and progress,” says Paul Kan at the opening ceremony of the Imperial Museum in Hong Kong earlier this year. Paul Kan’s majestic vision for his new museum extends beyond personal connoisseurship. He believes in art as a sacred link to the past and a powerful tool for personal and global transformation. The museum holds Kan’s personal collection of over 200,000 priceless Chinese and Western historical artworks, artifacts, documents, antiques and furniture. At the heart of the collection ǯ ϐ agarwood, a rare organic material more valuable than gold.

“THERE IS NO INCENSE IF THERE IS NO TREE. THERE IS NO BUDDHA IF THERE IS NO HEART.” - PAUL KAN states, “Buddha is in our heart, as incense is in the tree. When you are free from worries, enlightenment will come from the bottom of your heart. When a tree completes its rotting, the incense is released from the tree. There is no incense if there is no tree. There is no Buddha if there is no heart.” One of the most stunning agarwood sculptures in Kan’s collection is an enormous statue of Skanda Bodhisattva, a Buddhist symbol of enlightenment. Perfection, the title of another intricately ǡ ǡ ϐ Laughing Buddha, a kind and approachable God who symbolizes wealth. It is also true that he is opinionated and strong willed — aren’t we all? But what I like most about Robert is that he is extremely open to changing his point of view and he does like to be challenged with rational thought. In a recent interview, Robert stated, “While many think we are rivals, Dave Ramsey and I have great respect for one another, and with today’s economic turmoil, it’s time for us to collaborate and share our insights about money and investing. Cheers! Every great wine (and brand) has a story 76

“Our brands and products all have a story. But, if we merely present them as being basically the same as the others, then we shortchange ourselves.

am a fan of wine. Note that I didn’t say I was a connoisseur, because frankly, I don’t feel I am even close to that. But I do know that not only is a great wine an enjoyable experience, it can embody branding at its best. As a birthday trip for my wife, I arranged a series of wine tastings in Napa and Sonoma. I called up a company named Destination Cellars and they set up all the details. Now mind you, these weren’t just standard tastings. Not surprisingly, the wine tasted unremarkable to us and soon we felt ready to leave. That wine, by the way, is consistently highly rated, but not for me. I’ve had opportunities to buy a bottle of their wine and have thus far turned it down. I’m sure the wine is excellent, but the experience was so poor that I connect it with the wine’s name and label every time I see it. ϐ Ǥ were driven to a property seemingly in the middle of nowhere, where we entered the grounds of what was once a boy’s school. But if we merely present them as being basically the same as the others, then we shortchange ourselves. Every great brand, from Harley-Davidson to Apple, has a story, a reason that the product was created or how it endured against the odds. To connect with a brand, we need that, because we need to be told why something is unique to appreciate it. And once we know the story, it becomes part of us and it actually enhances our experience. in essence, building —what will be a new company. We are using many of the lessons taught at military schools, but not taught at business schools. Contrary to popular belief, military organizations are spiritual Ǥ ϐ a sense of spirit back into the business. To Marines, our mission is sacred. In the world of business I’ve found that a true sense of mission is often missing. Another step in the rebuilding of The Rich Dad Company has been to install a Code of Honor. If you saw the movie A Few Good Men starring Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise, you may recall the courtroom scene with Nicholson when he says . . .

“I would rather you just said ‘thank you’ and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you are entitled to!”

“We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line.” “I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it.”

The point I want to make is this: for Marines, the words found in a Code of Honor are more than words. The words are a spiritual mission. Unfortunately, in that movie, the Marines took the code too far. Another initiative at The Rich Dad Company is creating our Dz Ǥdz ǡ ϐ Ǥ to start a more elite organization within the organization.

Blair Singer, a great friend, Rich Dad Advisor and exceptional trainer has written a book titled Team Code of Honor. Keep answering this question over and over again with sincere and meaningful answers until you truly feel grateful for the oppor ϐ tant to you. When you see that whatever you are doing is on the way and not in the way, you will be more grateful and present in time when you travel. The more grateful and present you are, the less difference in time zones you will feel. Gratitude opens up the heart and lets love, inspiration and enthusiasm spontaneously emerge from within. These states of heart and mind help you transcend any of the effects of jet lag. When you love what you do and do what you love, you are more present and do not get affected nearly as much by jet lag as you pass through the various time zones around the globe. Fifth: Reduce or eliminate stimulants (tea, coffee) and sedatives (sleeping pills, alcohol) that induce volatilities in endocrine or physiological function. Anything that perturbs psychology or physiology or adds volatility to the internal biochemistries reduces

Overeating is unwise under any circumstance and in any setting, so do not overeat and lie down immediately afterwards. A full stomach can restrict your diaphragmatic excursion and function. Your diaphragm is your energy dynamo. If it is impeded so will be your vitality. Breathing deeply oxygenates your blood and elevates your energy levels. If you eat a small meal, wait an hour. If you eat a moderate meal, wait two hours. If you eat a full meal, wait three hours before lying completely down. It is wiser, at least initially, to only ϐ Ǥ live moderately — do not live to eat. Ninth: ϐ require for adequate rest or sleep, consider eating a couple of hours before you board the jet. This will allow you to immediately get to sleep in a full reclined position the moment you board, and not do so on a full stomach. Tenth: Dissolve any mental distraction before boarding so you can rest soundly. This can be done by writing every item that is on your mind (personally or professionally) and organize them either by when to do them or delegate them so you are not carrying around unnecessary thoughts in your head and clouding your mind with non-present distractions. A short pencil is better than a long memory. By doing these ten actions above, you will be more present, grateful, centered and restful. Jet lag can be transcended. You have ǡ ϐ Ǥ ϐ ǡ ǡ ϐ Ǥ

A Quest for Justice

Even a Death Row Inmate Needs a Private Jet How did the wife of a prominent surgeon find herself at the death chamber battling the American justice system with the Pope and Mother Teresa in her corner?

ori St John’s new book, The Corruption of Innocence, A Journey for Justice, tells you how she did just that. True, it is highly unlikely, even unfathomable, that an unknown death row inmate would become a cause cĂŠlèbre in Italy, championed by the Italian and European Parliaments, Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa. Joseph O’Dell was even made an honorary citizen in Palermo, Italy, where he was received after his execution in the United States. An Italian Air Force jet crossed international skies to retrieve his body from Virginia for burial in a country that fought for justice for over eight months. O’Dell’s funeral was highly unusual. Secret service agents surrounded Mayor Leoluca Orlando of Palermo, as Parliamentarian dignitaries stood in solidarity for a man who was held up to the world as a symbol of American injustice. In Italy, Lori met privately with the Pope, accompanied by Sister Helen Prejean, author of Dead Man Walking.

He is more than just a philanthropist who “like industry titans Bill Gates and Warren Buffetâ€? signed the Giving Pledge to give a majority of his net worth to charity. And he is more than merely the inspiration behind Tony Stark, Robert Downey Jr.’s beloved alter ego in the Iron Man series. No, Elon Musk is the kind of man who routinely draws comparisons to some of the greatest minds of all time — brilliant inventors like Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla (whom he named his radically-innovative car brand after) — and his accomplishments, life story and vision make him even more than just the world’s most intrepid interstellar jetsetter. His legend begins in Pretoria, South Africa where Elon, a technological prodigy, taught himself how to program on a computer at a very young age. › ͳʹǥ Š‡ Šƒ† •‘Ž† Š‹• Ď?‹”•– ’‹‡…‡ ‘ˆ Â•Â‘ÂˆÂ–Â™ÂƒÂ”Â‡ÇĄ ƒ ‰ƒÂ?‡ Š‡ Â…Â”Â‡ÂƒÂ–Â‡Â†ÇĄ ˆ‘” ƒ„‘—– $500 bucks — a pretty decent chunk of change for a pre-teen. Elon always had an adventurous spirit and a strong desire to see the world; he would leave South Africa at age 17 and attend school in both Canada and the U.S. It was around this time that he claims he was inspired by the most prominent American inventors — men he is now likened to, such as Edison, Henry Ford and Steve Jobs — and Musk vowed to dedicate his life to the three areas he felt would “most affect the future of humanity: the Internet, sustainable energy and space.â€?

With its ultramodern styling and iPad-esque controls, you feel as though you are sitting in the future. With a gentle tap on the “gas” pedal, the car thrusts forward with incredible torque — a sensation only exacerbated by the fact that the car makes no noise. It is then that you begin to grasp the true scope of Musk’s vision — and why there is such a long waiting list at Tesla dealerships to own a piece of the future. The car’s success has already paved the way for future models like the Model X — a striking SUV/crossover to begin production in 2014. Tesla charging stations are also popping up left and right (making travel distance

And as for his last area of change, sustainable energy, it is no mere afterthought to mention that Elon founded Solar City — the largest provider of solar power in the U.S. So yeah, if you are keeping score at home, he did tackle everything he pledged to by the age of ͶͲǡ ϐ Ǥ Ȅ which is devoted to science education, pediatric health and clean energy — and he sits on the board of far too many other charitable organizations to name. “It is important to remember that being a good global citizen and a good businessman are not mutually exclusive,” Musk says. resort living. Keeping an emphasis on family and life-long memories is a priority at Golden Oak, and if you treasure the bonds of family relationships like I do, you will be blown away by the events that unfolded before our eyes. As Golden Oak residents, we discovered that arranging a VIP Tour of Walt Disney World is as simple as calling Resident Services. Along with two amazing tour guides, we were whisked away to explore Walt Disney World Resort without the use of a directional site map or the daunting task of waiting in long lines to experience the attractions. This was the most pleasant experience I’ve ever encountered at a Disney theme park! We then shared an amazing lunch (again without the wait) at one of the newest Disney restaurants. My daughter and I were then escorted to Disney’s Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, courtesy of the Golden Oaks Resident Services team, where she was transformed into the princess of her dreams. It was truly a magical experience and a moment my daughter will carry with her for years to come. I did attempt to get this scheduled ahead of time, but was told it was not possible due to the short notice. However, since I was experiencing Disney World as if I had become a resident of Golden Oak, the doors magically opened. I commend the Golden Oak Resident Services team for facilitating that request. We were also escorted to Disney’s Epcot, where we were introduced to the Disney Events Group who revealed the services they were able to perform for residents of Golden Oak. From in-home dinners to magical parties, the team can put an elaborate party together with ease.

Only the magic of Golden Oak and Disney could have created the amazing moment we shared next: an exclusive dinner experience featuring eight iconic Disney characters and a live disc jockey. Equipped with their autograph books and their dancing shoes, our children were in heaven! And you can’t possibly leave Epcot without ϐ Ǥ Fireworks dessert party was an amazing sight to see and enjoy. The private setting and attention to detail was incredible. Of course, you can’t say goodbye without a catered sunrise breakfast at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. A private, guided tour made this event quite spectacular. It was absolutely over the top! “We’ve been delighted by the positive response over the past 24 months,” says Page Pierce, Vice President of Disney Resort Real Ǥ Dz ϐ nearly sold out, so Marceline quite literally builds on that success.” To own and enjoy a luxury lifestyle surrounded by Walt Disney World Resort is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The ability to enjoy remarkable family experiences that will forever be engrained in your memory bank is priceless. Could you imagine being the grandparents that have a home at Golden Oak? What about being the talk of the town at family reunions? Those that have a desire to surround themselves in a magical Disney environment while investing in the family legacy will undoubtedly be amazed with the glorious community called Golden Oak. A Race to the Bottom?

The Pitfalls of Cost-Cutting in Private Aviation by karen brost IMAGES COURTESY OF Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation

O

n the surface, it’s easy to identify the advantages of traveling via private aircraft, with convenience, comfort and exclusivity ranking at the top of the list. But underneath it all, Dan Drohan, CEO of the private charter and aircraft asset management company Solairus Aviation, has seen a disturbing trend toward cost-cutting in the industry that he believes will eventually lead to a decline in service, and, even worse, a decline in safety. He says that this situation began in the mid 2000s when the private aviation market contracted and the industry sought ways to increase user consumption. “So,” he explains, “the industry went for the low hanging fruit — by lowering the price to make it more accessible and hoping to drive up the volume.” This, he says, lead to

ϐ ǡ pricing by the seat, by the mile, by the one-way, by the leg, by monthly membership and so on. “The consumer wanted a cheaper price for something that was perceived to be expensive, because it is! And the industry responded the only way it could to survive: it made private air travel less expensive.” Drohan says that private aviation isn’t supposed to be cheap or easily accessible to the masses. “It’s an exclusive service using multimillion dollar assets intended to be used by those who understand — and can afford — the cost. The airlines provide a service for people who want to get from A to B in the most economical airborne fashion, and frankly, they do a reasonable job of it, given

the challenge. Commoditization of private aviation is an attempt to pull folks out of those airline seats and put them into the seats of private jets. It’s simply not rational and it’s not sustainable.” He describes three critical components of private air travel that can be compromised when providers engage in extreme costcutting measures: SAFETY Ȅ ϐ company’s safety program is as comprehensive as possible. Solairus, for example, employs a full-time Safety Program Manager and invests in the industry’s toughest safety audits. They also ǡ ϐ coordinators and dispatchers to provide 24/7, 365 oversight and ϐ Ǥ Dz Ǥ ǡ ϐ categories low-cost providers will neglect in order to provide the lowest quote,” Drohan notes.

CONVENIENCE Ȃ ϐ ϐ ǡ they want, is one of the most compelling reasons for travelers to justify the high cost of private air travel. “Low-cost providers that sell individual seats on private jets to random groups of strangers will inevitably force their passengers to compromise these ϐ Ǥ ǡ Ǧ Ǯ Ǧ Ǧ ǯ ϐ ϐ ǡ ǡ Ȁ locations that are determined exclusively by the provider, not the clients themselves,” he continues. COMFORT – According to Drohan, top-tier providers strive to provide a truly bespoke luxury experience to their passengers that includes modern amenities such as espresso machines, highly-trained cabin attendants and unlimited onboard WiFi. “That same level of service is impossible to achieve if your bottom-priced quote won’t allow ϐ Ǧ ǡ 24/7, 365 client support at a true concierge level.”

Drohan says that the trend toward charging “next to nothing” for managing aircraft assets is another cause for alarm. “The client will have no way of measuring whether they are getting a high level of ϐ Ǥ Dz that many companies hope to make up the difference by chartering the airplane often enough to make a decent return, forcing them to cut costs at both ends, resulting in yet another race to the bottom. According to Drohan, there is another serious issue to consider: the looming pilot shortage. “We are imminently facing the largest exodus of pilots and maintenance professionals our industry has ever seen,” he states. “Aviation is already one of the most underpaid professions in existence, and the race to the bottom only exacerbates that. The less we’re willing to pay our crew, the fewer people we Ǯ Ǥǯ ǯ worrisome trend.” So, given all of these challenges, how can you make sure you’re choosing a charter company that meets your high standards for safety, comfort and convenience? Drohan suggests asking the provider for details about the following: their safety record, the experience of their charter sales team, how modern their charter ϐ ʹͶȀ͹ǡ ͵͸ͷ any last-minute issues or travel changes that may occur. He also recommends evaluating how transparent the company’s quoting process is and how their cancellation policy works. In terms of choosing an aviation asset management company, he says that in addition to the company’s safety record, it’s important to investigate the experience level and industry reputation of the company’s senior management team, whether your funds will be held in a separate account that you will maintain control over or placed in a communal bank account with other owners, who the ϐ ǡ HR needs will be administered. Monthly fees are another important

factor to question. Will fuel, insurance, pilot training, and travel costs be marked up or simply passed on to you? How transparent is the accounting process? Finally, if your aircraft will be made available for charter, what are the management company’s marketing and charter sales capabilities? In spite of the challenges his industry is facing, Drohan says that Solairus is committed to being a top tier player in the aviation business — and is clear that the company will continue to be driven by a quest for quality over quantity. “If we grow as a result of being great at what we do, then that’s wonderful. But we aren’t going to ϐ at industry events. Most of our clients don’t really care how many airplanes we have — they care about the service they get and the advocacy we demonstrate on their behalf in the marketplace.”

he whole world looks and longs for America and its way of life! It follows that California is one of the most desirable locations for internationals to locate — to have a second home — a hideaway. Between Los Angeles and San Francisco, midway between these two cities is the ideal place: it is the small town of Carmelby-the-Sea on the spectacular Bay of Monterey. It shares the bay with the famous residential/golf community of Pebble Beach, the coastal resort towns of Monterey and Carmel, and the breathtaking Big Sur coastline.

Carmel is one of the newest, re-emerging destinations, having all the attributes of California: summer climate all year ǡ ϐ ǡ ϐ Ǣ Ǧ art market and restaurants, music and art festivals, the iconic Concours d’Elegance, AT&T National Pro AM, jet center... everything is only minutes away from this small town. A young Carmel couple, Aime and Bob Carroll, contacted me in October 2004. Aime asked that I conceive a new design environment to be built for her and her family — something new and exciting for Carmel!

My inspiration comes two-fold: 1.The request: “Build something new and modern—create an environment we have not already experienced.” 2. Having lived in California for over 50 years, I always wanted to live in not one house, but a compound, a quinta, of individual buildings: Ȉ Ȉ Ȉ ǡ ǡ Ȉ Ȁ ǡ ǡ Ȉ ǡ I was given the opportunity to accomplish this. The Tres Paraguas are three giant rectangular roofs of corrugated Corten steel mounted on 30x30 inch columns of Douglas Fir — 26 feet Ǥ ϐ ǡ Ǧ ǡ ϐ Ǥ Ǩ ǯ ϐ Ǧ enclosed courtyard facing south. It has a sunken lawn rising up to a pool and spa and a cantina outdoor kitchen, lounge and bar with Jacks Peak Park as the backdrop. The buildings are modern pueblas, self-roofed with heavily stuccoed walls in three earth tones, 18-foot walls and 12-foot high

sliding glass partitions, pocketing into the end walls, allowing the buildings to be completely open as pavilions. ϐ Ǧ properties, the home affords 360-degree views of the entire Monterey Bay and the forests of Jacks Peak. This gives you a beginning natural landscape of live oaks and pines, to which I have added Canary palms, Mediterranean palms, a Washingtonian palm, multitudes of agaves, and ϐ Ȅ the hillside terrain. Enter on Aguajito Road thru the Corten steel ribbon gate and wind Ǥ ϐ ͳ͵ǡͲͲͲ feet with a half-acre enclosed courtyard to the south and a long cast concrete parapeted terrace to the north and the bay. It’s great for lunch or cocktails at night lit by the town of Monterey. Three years in the planning and four years to completion, this is the master work of a master artist and designer with meticulous attention to detail. The result is well worth it. It is a place that will endure, that only gets better and more cherished as you experience it. Created by Ron Mann, the entire layout is designed for relaxed time-off living — noise free — for total seclusion and restoration, and every kind of world-class entertaining! eff Hein believes in the process of art. He believes in mastery and skill and the hard work and dedication that result in these traits. In an era obsessed with bigger and crazier, with performance and video art, with chaos and uncertainty, Hein remains staunchly traditional. With a laserlike intensity, the 39-year-old artist infuses depth, meaning and nuance into even the most banal subject matter. In the case of his portraits, he does not so much infuse as evoke the very essence of his subject to the surface of his canvas.

Then there are expressionistic artists who with their brushstrokes can better capture the emotional essence of a person or the aura of a scene without conveying every detail. Finding an artist that can do both is rare, but Hein possesses that type of talent. His paintings draw to mind the types of images and emotion found in work by Albrecht Dürer or ǡ ϐ Ǥ Hein explains, “I’ve tried to acquire a broad range of skills and techniques to allow myself more creative control of my concepts, like a poet or writer might desire a large vocabulary in order to more easily and beautifully express themselves.” Within the realm of Heins’ paintings, one can see the depth and layers in his work

that result from this unique and cumulative artistic and emotional intelligence. Paint strokes are precisely poised to complement one another in a symphony of color and expression. A series of Hein’s commissioned family portraits are whimsically poignant and create modern-day interpretations of ϐ illustration, conveying warmth and subtle humor. His single subject portraits are more pensive and depict vulnerability, yet in a subtlety protective way. Subjects almost always look directly at the viewer, inviting judgment. In some cases they’re reticent and hold objects or pets that act like protective talismans. Other times, they’re confrontational, as with Joanne, 2013 who, with her eyes and her expression, appears to be questioning the viewer’s motive while simultaneously resigning herself to inspection.

Hein’s depth and skill as an artist extend beyond his paintings. His ability to capture motion is even more aptly demonstrated in sculptures he’s done of animals that he uses as the basis for future paintings. For Hein, reality is important. He works from life or studies he’s created, but never from photos because for him they’re inorganic. They can’t do what a living, breathing model can do. A photo is not able to breathe life into Hein’s artistic process. “I see my job as a painter as being one that involves respond ϐ photography,” he explains. “Painting is about thousands of moments, responding to this one and that, editing out one, leaving another in. It’s a medium that allows the artist to explore his imagination on canvas.” Hein’s work has been included in over 40 group, museum and solo exhibits across the United States and Europe. His paintings and sculpture can be found in several prominent collections, including the private collection of Ann and Mitt Romney. Hein has been featured in several leading art journals, including Art News, Art & Antiques, Fine Art Connoisseur and American Art Collector. ǡ ϐ Ǥ ϐ Ǥ Ǥ Jenifer Mangione Vogt is a publicist and art and culture writer that ǡ ϔ ǡ and Italy.
