A
nimax launches first sheep bolus with highest trace elements levels Three of the most important trace elements for sheep can now be delivered in a single bolus thanks to a new product developed by leading UK bolus technology company, Animax Ltd. Tracesure 3-in-1 Sheep & Lamb is the latest addition to Animax’s range of boluses. The company’s veterinary director, Dr Elizabeth Berry, says the product is not only suitable for maintaining normal health, vitality and fertility of adult sheep and rams but can be used on replacement ewe lambs or ram lambs. “Cobalt, selenium and iodine can be given in this combined bolus which has 185mg of cobalt, 100mg of selenium and 660mg of iodine, higher levels than any other bolus on the market!’’ Dr Berry explains.
The need for supplementation because of lack of these elements in the diet can be common and necessary with variables including soil type, level of rainfall, grass varieties, forage type and grassland management. Dr Berry says pregnant and growing sheep have a higher need for these trace elements. “They may not obtain enough from their normal diet,’’ she warns. “Tracesure 3-in-1 Sheep & Lamb contains optimum amounts to cover demands during growth, pregnancy and lactation and will provide these for a period of approximately six months.’’ At Troedyrharn, Brecon, fat lamb producer Rob Stephens says the benefits of the bolus is visual and important for flock condition – it is that daily release; he can see the advantages by looking at his flock. annually. “We buy lean lambs but we don’t quite know their history so we bolus them, it does a phenomenal job.’’ He boluses ewes at tupping and at scanning, with the benefit of the application at scanning passing to lambs in the womb and later, through their mother’s milk. There is also the added advantage that 4g of copper oxide is contained in Tracesure Sheep Traffic Lights, a separate capsule for supplementation in cases of low copper in the diet. The newly-launched Tracesure 3-in-1 Sheep & Lamb is generating strong sales. Dr Berry says in addition to optimum trace element supplementation, labour efficiency is a key attraction. “One bolus, utilising Animax’s unique leaching bolus technology, does the job.’’

Flies are not only a nuisance flying around your farm – they spread disease. The threat of disease comes from houseflies that carry bacteria, protozoa and virus particles. An extreme infestation can lead to the risk of the following diseases: dysentery, cholera, typhoid, salmonella, pinkeye and tuberculosis. Besides these they can carry around 25 other diseases and are also capable of transmitting roundworms, tapeworms and pinworms. To make matters worse - flies breed quickly. The female fly lays 100-150 eggs in clusters and normally lays two clusters in a lifetime – though in favourable conditions she may lay as many as 20 batches! The eggs hatch within hours and the grey/ white larva begin to feed voraciously on the available organic matter. They are highly mobile and grow rapidly and within 4-7 days they migrate to cooler, dryer surroundings, such as loose soil, or
under stones, where they pupate. Breeding places may include fresh manure, animal excreta and rubbish – which is why it’s vital that you protect your farm. The Solution – Redtop Fly Traps Tried and tested for many years this ingenious fly trap offers a unique physical method of fly control. Simply pour in the bait, add 1 litre of water, hang the trap outside about 10m from the area you want to protect and watch the flies become attracted to the trap. he first most important thing to bear in mind when you are thinking about taking your car in for a service is that it is not the same as an MOT. Adding loft conversion boosts home value by a fifth, study finds

ew study shows that developing your attic can add up to £37,000 to your home’s value. Home owners could boost the value of their property by 21 per cent by adding a loft conversion, a study shows. Putting in an attic room has been found to have the potential to add £37,000 to the value of a home, while just adding an extra bedroom can equate to an extra

£20,000, according to research by the Nationwide Building Society. Based on the average house price of £178,124 in the first quarter of 2014 according to Nationwide’s price index, this would mean that an extra bathroom could add £8,900 to the value of a home. Boosting floor space by 10 per cent could add a similar amount of value to adding another bathroom.

ur Pink Bale Wrap is Back! Following the huge success of last years' campaign, we are once again helping to raise money for breast cancer research by launching a special pink version of our Topwrap
silage bale film. For every roll of the pink Topwrap film purchased, £3 will be donated to the charity Breast Cancer Now – with contributions toward the £3 coming from Volac, as well as Trioplast, the film’s manufacturer, and from the merchant supplying the roll. Note: Topwrap RS1900 pink bale wrap has 1900m of film on a roll, as opposed to the standard green wrap sold which is 1500m. On average it is 7% cheaper than standard wrap and wraps 26.6% more bales. The free app acts as a digital ID card making it quick and easy for members to register CPD points and log participation in training activities and events. The app is compatible with all Apple and Android smartphones and can be downloaded from the App store or Google Play. The new app means members will use their unique account number displayed as a barcode on their phone instead of a physical membership card to register for CPD points. BASIS Professional Register members include qualified advisers and agronomists who advise on and sell crop protection and crop nutrition. To remain on the register, members must accrue a specified number of CPD points every year. Event and training organisers will benefit from the new app. Less paperwork will make it simpler and
quicker to register member attendance. his is no longer the case for drivers of any doublecab Isuzu D-Max. The new Pedders D-Max TrakRyder Lift Kit takes the strain out of the suspension set-up, promising an enhanced ride quality whether the D-Max is fully laden or empty and regardless of the type of road surface. Taking any double-cab D-Max to the next level of comfort, ride quality and stability – applicable to the Blade, Eiger, Fury, Utah and Yukon in the premium D-Max range and double-cab pick-up in the utility range – the suspension kit gives the best of both worlds as it equips the D-Max as both a workhorse and a family utility vehicle. The Pedders D-Max TrakRyder Lift Kit does this by introducing a variable leaf spring design that gives spring and shock absorber rates capable of handling increased
ground clearance, increased suspension travel whilst enhancing vehicle stability. The D-Max TrakRyder Lift Kit increases the ride height by +35mm to +40mm, enabling the vehicle to cover rough ground as well as increasing the approach and departure angles of the pick-up when traversing extreme angles on undulating off-road terrain. With the kit intended for use on- and off-road – including general commuting – the suspension upgrade also makes towing more comfortable, when drivers are exploiting the D-Max’s classleading 3.5-tonne towing capacity. No modifications to the Isuzu D-Max are required in order to fit the suspension kit, which includes a pair of Pedders Trak Ryder Rear Foam Cell Shocks, Pedders Trak Ryder Lift Kit Rear Leaf Springs, Ezi Fit Front Foam Cell Shocks & Springs, Rear Anti Roll Bar Kit, Rear Spring Leading
and Trailing Polyurethane Bush Kits and U-bolts for Rear Springs. With innovation incorporated into the whole suspension kit’s design and construction, the set-up is easy to fit, minimising the labour time needed for installation. The Pedders D-Max TrakRyder Lift Kit is available supplied and fitted at your local Isuzu dealer for £1,357.15 (excluding VAT).
