Iron Man 3 Review Written by -AJ Bitner

Brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man is pitted against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to a question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man? I had an opportunity to see this movie a week before it came out, the perks of knowing people helps. First off, I am a comic book nerd so I definitely came into this movie expecting a lot especially with the all star cast that was put together. The follow up to the Blockbuster hit “The Avengers” it had to keep people emotionally vested in the process. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint, to be honest; Iron Man has never really been a hero that has tickled my fancy until the interpretation Robert Downey Jr. has portrayed. I have always known the character Tony Stark and when I learned RDJ accepted the role; it made me very excited due to the fact “Tony Stark” and RDJ share a lot in common. Such as looks and even down to the alcoholism, I found it to be perfect choice for both Marvel and himself.

RDJ continues this series with an

unforgettable performance. Well timed jokes and the delivery of each line made this story even more enjoyable! Due to the fact he acted so brilliantly. Don Cheadle lends a hand with an even bigger supporting role than Iron Man 2. Iron Patriot was revealed early in the development stages, which made a lot of people unsure about the movie because the comic book adaptation was kind of skewed by this choice. It was redeemed once you saw what direction Marvel decided to take this franchise. The ever so beautiful Gwyneth Paltrow continues to play the fantastic “Pepper Potts” and quickly lends a love interest that you are truly vested in. Sir Ben Kingsley lends his legendary acting chops to this blockbuster with a perfect portrayal of “The Mandarin” I was very hesitant at first when I heard they selected him to play the china business man but I quickly threw my doubts out the window. His menacing and well delivered lines quickly made him one of my favorite villains that was introduced thus far. Director Shane Black’s story telling not only through words but the vision he wanted for this movie made me quickly forget about Jon Favreau giving up the directing job to do “Cowboys from Space”. Overall this is an amazing movie, I tried to make this review with no spoilers and I hope I delivered on that promise. This was a perfect way to kick off the summer season of movies. Marvel is a power house to be reckoned with and this quickly proves it again. Iron Man 3 is a movie you need to see!

What should you wear to an interview?

the Business Man

Do’s and Don’ts of Interview Attire Jess Atkinson

Going to an interview can be a scary thing for most people. You are left asking yourself questions like: What do I wear? Is this too bright? Does this send out the wrong message? What if I wear the wrong thing? What does this outfit say about me? All the questions make it that much harder for people who are going out into the workforce looking for a job. We have complied a simple list of all the do’s and don’ts of the wardrobe for both men and women. WOMEN: Do: Wash your hair and fix it nicely for the day at hand. A casual up do or half up half down; what this says to an employer is: You take the time to care about what you look like and will represent the company in a positive light. Don’t: Leave your hair unwashed, uncurled, straight down without any style, or pulled up in a simple or messy pony. What this sends out is a message that you will not take the time for yourself; this shows them you will not take the time to represent the company in a manner they think is appropriate. Do: Wear a color that stands out but not too much. Picking your color can be a hard task to do! Use your color as an accent piece not as the focal point of your ensemble. Colors that work: Teal, Coral, Yellow, Peach, Light Pink, Sage Green, Orange (think of a softer orange with glints of pink in the hue itself). Don’t: Try to stay away from your typical POWER COLORS: Red, Bright Blue, Royal Blue

and all Black. You will come off as more aggressive than you are meaning to project. Do: Wear heels or flats that accent your outfit properly. Don’t: Wear open toe shoes, it gives off the appearance of not caring about yourself or others around you. Yes, this even means those cute kitten heels with the peep toes. Any open toe shoe is a NO. (No Flip flops) Do: Wear dress pants, skirt or a dress; Think of attending your best friend’s wedding or a Sunday brunch with your parents. Dressy but not to the point that you are all glitzed up, save the glam for a night out on the town. Don’t: Wear a dress or skirt that comes to mid thigh length. (This is one I cannot stress enough for women.) When you sit down the length of the dress or skirt tend to rise up considerably. With that being said, ANY respectable employer will find it offensive if they see too much of you in an interview. Do: Keep your make up fresh and light. Don’t: Over do the eye shadow, lipstick or blush it is almost as bad as going in with no makeup at all. Though if you go to the interview with too much makeup you may be sending out the message this is not the real job you are looking for. MEN: Do: Wash your hair and style it to the best of your ability, if you have trouble with this please ask someone to help you do so. Shave your face or tame your facial hair in a manner that makes it look clean and structural.

Don’t: Go into an interview looking like you just rolled out of bed. Seriously guys, this is important, even if you have just rolled out of bed slap on a shave or trim. Fix your hair... Employers do not want to see you looking unshaven or messy. Take pride in your appearance and they will be more than willing to give you more than just a passing glance.

Do: Wear deodorant and a splash of perfume/ cologne. Don’t: Wear so much cologne or perfume that you will leave the room you are in smelling like you or enough to give those near you a headache.

Do: Wear slacks that cover your legs to an If you follow these simple tips you are well appropriate length in the leg. A dark wash jean on your way to succeeding in the business that looks like a slack is fine. world. Though these are just a few things you can do to help make a great first impression. Don’t: Wear holy jeans, pants or anything with The rest is up to you. holes for that matter. High water pants are a big NO! Trust me just because it seems like the pants fit when you stand, does not mean they will when you sit down. As a rule of thumb when looking at slacks or pants to wear, measure the length of your leg to below your ankle bone for the proper length of pant. Do: Wear a belt (cannot stress this one enough for men) Don’t: Allow your pants to fit so loosely that they sag off your backside. No one wants to see your underwear or your plumber’s crack… Especially not an employer. Do: Wear dress shoes or a nice boot to the interview. Don’t: Wear your beat up old sneakers or work boots. MEN AND WOMEN: Do: Shower the day of or the night before. Don’t: Go into the interview without being cleaned up. Employers want you to put your best foot forward in all manners of appearance

Lastly, consider your brand. Who do your customers see you as? What do you offer to them? You become an experience for your clients/customers; consider the experience you’re giving them.

Always start your day with a plan. Create a plan of action and stick to it. Allow time for short-term actions and long-term goals. Avoid making a “To-Do list” instead allot times into a scheduler or daily planner. Give yourself deadlines and adhere to t hem. As a personal example, with my own blogging website (www.catherinenikkel.com) I dedicate no more than one hour a day that includes both writing my content and promoting it. I also dedicate an hour to overall relationship marketing – communicating with others in my niche, connecting with new clients and customers and participating in various forums, message boards and blog commenting. I follow through on these commitments 4-6 days per week. Recently I joined with several others on a 30-30-30 challenge – 30 days of 30 minutes personal development reading and another 30 minutes listening to and/or watching personal development audio/video. Having an accountability partner has also increased my level of success and I encourage this to be something to consider for you in the home based business industry.

Above all else, I assure you one thing, with hard work and dedication; it could be the journey of a lifetime. With a commitment to you and your business you could absolutely reap some incredible benefits. I won’t promise you that you will, but what if you could. Bullying and How to Deal with it.

Signs of Bullying and what you can do

The signs aren’t always as evident as we would like to them to be as parents Catherine Nikkel – can be difficult without your child At one time or another, unfortunately, every coming out to tell you or perhaps any visible marks or bruises on their body. child will encounter a form of bullying. As Some things you can consider as a parents and caregivers it’s critical to know how to assist in preventing and coping with parent or caregiver who is concerned this. Consider also that to bullies – the behaviours they display may be familiar to them and in actuality not consider that it’s inappropriate.

Let’s consider this heart wrenching statistic for a moment: In the United States, 30% of students in grades six through ten are involved in frequent bullying. In Canada, 47% of parents have reported their child has been a victim of bullying. One study suggested that over 200 million children worldwide are affected by bullying. This is a huge problem and one that is growing according to new statistics – considering new forms aside from your “traditional school yard bully” moving into online and social media – emails, texts, Facebook, etc. Be involved. Talk to your children. Empower them. Encourage your child to utilize the buddy system, be aware of their surroundings while away from home (using a different washroom, etc), and stick with someone on the bus, in the hallways, at their locker. As a parent or caregiver, find out what laws exist where you are relating to bullying, if the bullying is occurring at school, encourage your child to speak with someone there and follow up as a parent. Remind your child to avoid responding to the bully – this only adds fuel to their fire. Walking away, although difficult, is great advice. Remember, there are many resources available for you and your children pertaining to bullies. Talking about it is crucial however – I’m not suggesting you push your child to where they are uncomfortable talking about it, but always remind them you are there to love and support them, leave pamphlets around the home easily accessible to them, and be ready when they are ready.

Music and bands you should check out: Chris Fryer Hello, my name is Chris Fryer and I am a lover of music. Yes, I ask; who does not love music? Who does not love the amazing delivery of poetry combined with soft melody or hard strung guitar riffs? I for one am not a fan of random beats and sad lyrics written for the purpose of selling a record or two. Though I do have partial opinions on what music is the best, I would say that my ear for raw and untamed music is pretty well developed. I like anything from bluegrass, blues, hard rock, country and everything in between. It is most inspiring to me when I can hear all of these sounds, come out of one band or musician. The first band/musician that I am going to highlight is Col. Bruce Hampton who resides in middle Georgia. He has been recording music since he formed his first band in 1963. He has performed live with the likes of The Allman Brothers Band, Widespread Panic and many other big names in the industry. He even made an appearance in the movie Sling Blade. What stands out for me the most about Col. Bruce is his down to earth approach to the music scene. Even with fame and success, he still finds himself on stages in our local bars and clubs, charging little to no cover. His current band Col. Bruce Hampton and Pharohs Kitchen is a unique blend of soulful blues, funk and psychedelic “Jimi Hendrix” style electric guitar, which is played by legendary steele guitar player A.J. Ghent Jr. A.J. is a sight to behold all by himself but with this band the level of musicianship is stellar.

they will be playing some shows in the mid state area very soon. Secondly, I have to give much praise to Randall Bramblett. Randall has been playing in middle Georgia since the early seventies with bands such as Sea Level, Cowboy and also taking the stage with The Allman Brothers Band, Government Mule and Widespread Panic. Randall Bramblett is the go to guy for anyone seeking session work for an album. Playing the keys, the tenor sax and the clarinet, he really is a one man band. Now when I went to see him play recently here in Macon Georgia, I knew I was going to hear some good music. However I was not aware that I was going to hear some of the best live music that I have ever heard in my life. The Randall Bramblett Band consists off some very talented musicians, including Davis Causey who is also a former member of Sea Level. They have just released a new album titled The Bright Spots and I highly recommend picking a copy up. The Randall Bramblett Band, will also being playing at Hoopee Jam on May third. I emphasize seeing these local artists not only if you live in the Middle Georgia area but also to anyone around the world. There is just no good excuse for us Georgia folks to not get out and see these musical gems that are around us all of the time. I’m going to take you a little farther out with the next artist on my list but don’t get me wrong. This one is probably my all time favorite and his name is Les Claypool. That would be the man of Primus fame. He is the best bass player of all time. I won’t debate that one. Nope, still not going to debate it. But what should really attract people to Les Claypools music is the diversity and the intensity. The man can play a one string whamola, custom made bass with a fury like no other. Playing with musicians Stewart Copeland of The Police and Trey Anastasio

of Phish and still maintaining the front man status says quite a lot. I recommend just typing his name into your YouTube search and see where it takes you. I’m sure that your ears will be pleased or at least slightly disturbed. Thanks for reading my thoughts on these musicians and I truly hope you check them out.

This idea and photos are brought to you by: http://secondhandsundays.blogspot.com/2012/03/instagram-magnets-diy.html

You only need a few supplies to create these Instagram magnets. I either had all of these supplies or found them at Michaels, you should be able to buy everything from your local craft/art store. Supplies: Magnet sheet Cardstock Spray Adhesive Scissors/Utility Knife Rule Printer Instagram images

To make my sheet of instagram pictures I used the contact sheet function on Photoshop and sized all of the images to be 2x2”, you could also just create the sheet yourself by re-sizing all of the squares to be 2x2” and then arranging them on an 8x10” sheet of paper. Another option for those non-instagram people would be to crop your own images into squares and then re-size them according to the instructions above. You will want to print these out on card stock. Once your contact sheet is printed simple place the images on top of your magnet sheet to ensure correct placement. I had to cut off the bottom row to get my to fit correctly. You’ll want to take the images and magnet sheet outside to use the spray adhesive, that stuff gets on everything! Spray the back of the cardstock and carefully smooth your images down on the non-magnetized side of the magnet sheet. Let this sit for a couple of minutes to ensure it’s completely adhered. Next you’ll want to pull out your utility knife and ruler and cut away. I highly recommend using a cutting board or piece of cardboard to cut on, you don’t want to scratch up your table, or floor, or dresser, or...whatever you craft on. Once your little intstagram magnets are all cut out you can decorate your fridge in style. I’m loving the way this has personalized our kitchen space and I definitely think I will be making more of these in the future! I hope you enjoyed today’s DIY, now go out and make yourself some.big kiss, bekuh

Savannah Georgia: The historic Tour Deeply rooted in history and beautifully preserved, Savannah is Georgia’s oldest city. Established in 1733 by English settlers, Savannah grew into a graceful town known for its architecture and Southern hospitality. You may want to spend more than just a day exploring the almost two dozen squares that make up Savannah’s historic district. Wellknown Forsyth Park is home to a beautiful fountain and a Confederate Memorial statue. Also plan to take a guided tour that showcases Savannah history and culture. Savannah Movie Tours brings you up close to more than 60 movie locations from films such as “Forrest Gump” and “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”; the company also offers culinary tours and ghost tours as well. Two historic homes demand your attention: the Regency-style birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts, and Isaiah Davenport House, a Federal-style home. Also plan to make a stop and see the First African Baptist Church, which is believed to be the oldest continually active, autonomously developed African-American congregation in North America – since 1775. The church building, circa 1859, was the birthplace of the region’s civil rights movement and contains a museum. Savannah has dozens of hotel choices, but be sure to consider The Mansion on Forsyth Park and the Azalea Inn & Gardens, both of which are located in historic downtown Savannah. For fresh seafood in a unique atmosphere, go off the beaten path to Desposito’s in Thunderbolt, near Savannah. Coming in at a 4 out of 5 stars due to some of the pricy places you will have as choices to stay at in Savannah. But if you book your rooms in advance and look around there are some amazingly wonderful sites to see.

A behind the scenes look at writer Christopher Ledford, author of the series ‘From the Scrolls of Alana’ When did you start writing? I grew up on fantasy and comic books, so as early as 1983 I had started creating my own stories. My mother tells me I wrote little stories as a kid, but I don’t really remember those much. I joyfully flexed my skills in school whenever we were given creative writing assignments. I left home in 1992 and by 1996 my parents had moved; all my early written material was lost. I managed to find some creative friends that fueled me to re-create all my original characters and then some. From 1996 to 2000 those ideas grew into their own worlds. In 2001 I began serious efforts to write a novel sized story. But, real life became exhausting and a loss of motivation ensued. It wasn’t until 2011 that my writing randomly came up again as a topic of discussion. A few close friends assured me that my work was good and I should get it out there. So, I dedicated every spare moment I could to it. About a year later in 2012, ‘From the Scroll of Alana: The Delve’ was completed. Who inspired you to write? It depends on how you mean; as a kid, I’d have to say that my inspiration came from within. I grew up on science fiction, fantasy and comic books. I just started to have so many thoughts in my head, getting them on paper kind of freed up some space. Seeing and reading all that stuff made me want to make my own. The ultimate credit would have to go to my friend Linton Broad.

I went over a decade without writing and he brought me back to it. Who are you biggest supporters? Linton Broad is by far the biggest supporter. He hasn’t just motivated me; he’s used his artistic skills to bring life to my characters. He’s created the line art for both books that are currently available and has helped with building awareness of the books. My wife, Michelle, helps me by being a second pair of eyes with the editing. Tell us about the main character in your first book, how do you think her plight will relate to your readers? The focus character would be Namadea; she’s the High Priestess of her faction of dark elves. Their society was ruled by a strict militant elf who frowned upon anything that might cause him to lose control, so he tries to get rid of Namadea. I’d think readers can relate to her plight, because I’m sure everyone has, or will eventually come to that point in their life where they feel pushed down and tested. Now, keep in mind that ‘From the Scroll of Alana: The Delve’ is a work of fantasy fiction; I don’t condone Namadea’s extreme actions in a real world setting. But, the relatable point is that if you feel pushed down, gather your strength and rise up. Take a chance on your creative dreams, whether it’s building or making something, recording music, painting, or even writing a book. What are your dreams as a writer?

able to start my own publishing studio where I’d bring together my closest creative minded friends and also help amateur writers with their works. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Besides living my dreams? I’d like to be at least writing full time; I have a lot of stories to share. Where can people find your book? In the Middle Georgia area, the paperback versions are available at Comics Plus in Macon, located at 6443 Zebulon Road #1d. Online, the eBook and paperback versions are available through Amazon.com. What made you want to write a series of books? I have a lot of material consisting of settings, background stories, and many characters; it just wasn’t feasible to fit it all into a single book or even two. I decided that if I were going to put them into book form, I was going all the way with it and create an epic. Where can people see you and get a signed copy of your book? There are copies that will be given out at various event signings at Comics Plus in Macon Georgia, and there will be a chance to grab a copy at the muse theatre in Perry Georgia. Check the ‘From the Scroll of Alana’ page on Facebook, this will be the place I’d post any information about dates and locations I’d be out for book signings.

With dreams, the sky’s the limit, right? I’d love for my stories to be picked up by a movie Find Christopher’s author page on facebook: production studio. I can’t imagine what it’d be https://www.facebook.com/pages/From-thelike to see my stories brought to life on the big Scroll-of-Alana/204177896376942 screen. Other than that, I’d like to be

Interview by Jess Atkinson

Hemophilia/Haemophilia is a hereditary blood defect that occurs primarily in males and is caused by delayed clotting of the blood and difficulty controlling hemorrhage. The bleeding is due to insufficient protein in blood plasma that helps blood clot. Symptoms range from increased bleeding after injury (even minor ones), surgery, and trauma to sudden bleeding without any source. Currently, there is no cure for haemophilia, and it can only be subdued with treatment. Haemophilia affects 1 out of 5,000-10,000 male births, and about 400 Americans are born with it each year. Today, about 20,000 Americans are affected by the disorder. Niche recently interviewed Daisy Blaquiere, who talked with us about her son Andy Blaquiere and his struggles with haemophilia. While Andy’s daily health issues take a toll on his and his family’s lives, his fighting spirit inspires Daisy to keep a positive outlook on an unfortunate situation.

Daisy: His ups and downs occur with trips to the ER. Anytime he hits his head, as of now, we take him to the ER, even if it was just a small bump. That small bump can turn into a major bleed. He currently has a goose egg, a knot, on his head that will stay there for weeks. His body had to break down the clot. His ups are every day of his life. He’s the happiest baby I’ve ever seen.

The only way to receive his Factor (his medicine, Factor VIII) is intravenously. Niche: What do you have to do to make sure he is safe and happy? Daisy: We try to keep him [near] padded surfaces. We will also be having another fund-raiser in May, to benefit the same thing. We also have a team called Miles for Andrew. We do the Haemophilia Walk (a 5K) in October, with Haemophilia of North Carolina. You can also follow our journey on loveintheblood.wordpress.com (http://loveintheblood.wordpress.com/).
