With the slew of technologies data visualisation has erupted as an interesting way to showcase movements visually. This could be achieved if every bus is assigned a GPS indicator which is integrated with the bus stops on the joruney.

Inspite of deployment of BRTS, the AMTS buses still function with the same intensty only because their reach to corners throughout the city. The BRTS apparently operates usually on the main roads and the issue that comes up is connectivity of local buses to BRTS network. The fancy looking BRTS should have taken care of this too!

Urban development When a state talks about rapid urban development especially in the city, Ahmedabad one has to closely look at the transport and transit system. The city planners investing for advancements upfront and race for the upcoming modernised city tag have they done a justice? (An audio recording submited) Questions raised from the people itself. All these fascinating modern developments by the government don’t answer their questions. However there seems evident differences created by the governement in the transport system.

A Divide: BRTS & AMTS ? From the field notes submitted and comparitive analysis done: there seems to be a drastical difference firstly on the infrastructure of the bus stations. The situation is really contrasting; the local bus stops few of them have no place to sit, some lack roof, some turned into garbage and during night their existence is questioned as an advertisement hoarding or a bus stop! There seems no standardisation of information. Infact it’s the same governement – on one hand they are spending money to showcase as an modernised upcoming city. But on the backyard there exists a contrast on their transport system! The transit and transport systems are one of the most researched areas around the world. Designing transport systems needs thorogh understanding of the space & information so that one could evolve to an Integrated Design System. They complement each other. Whats needs to be built is a structure that encompases utilisation of space and information that supports the same.

On a daily basis there are many passengers who communicate to/fro from villages, towns outside ahmedabad. The government in order to avoid congestion at Geeta Mandir is trying to develop more terminals for GSRTC across the city. For successful implementation the state transport system needs to be integrated with the local transport system for efficient transport of commuters. For this purpose there seems essential need of information design. This becomes succefful only when people travelling through state transport are able to identify, track & relate the local transport through information.

The hoarding for proposed Gujarat Metro Rail project have already been set up on the road that connects ahmedabad and Gandhingar. These are quite huge to catch attention of passers by and far better than the filthy display boards for AMTS bus notifications.

Sign, Signifier, Signified The governemnt strongly focuses on modernisation but what about the problems that are still in the backyard?
