Dear Friends, The dream of a recreated and interactive museum for Jekyll Island is now a reality thanks to your significant contributions. The Jekyll Story, its land, people, and legacy, can now be experienced and explored in great part because of your belief in the conservation, preservation, and education of all things Jekyll. On behalf of the Jekyll Island Foundation Board of Directors, we want to thank you for your integral participation in bringing the Mosaic Museum to life! We are overjoyed to share that we not only met our campaign goal but exceeded it!! The historic stables have been preserved with grace and dignity, and you will be amazed at the creativity and innovation that was poured into the exhibits within this fabulous facility. Educators will be especially awed by the retelling of the island’s cultural society, from the Native American and African American stories, through the State Era when Georgia purchased Jekyll Island. Students can literally step into a Waddle and Daub hut, hear the language, feel the walls, and see life on Jekyll as it was so long, long ago. No website can do that! And what about the historic nature of Jekyll? Visitors can experience the island when it was hunted and farmed, read of native flora and fauna, and learn about migratory species who depend on Jekyll Island for sustainability. We hope you have an opportunity to visit Jekyll and the Mosaic Museum. It would be an honor to thank you in person for your contribution to Jekyll’s past, present and future. With endless gratitude and admiration,

“As a Brunswick native, I have been going to Jekyll Island for a long time now. The museum before was not only less aesthetically pleasing, but it seemed to revolve much more around the Club Era instead of the broader history of the island. Both of those drawbacks have been remedied now. I like the fact that the museum documents all of the island’s history, including the slave trade, segregation on the island, etc.” — Paul Vasquez, Ph.D. “We think the museum will add an important new dimension to Jekyll Island, and it will be an attraction for years to come.” — Mike Hodges, Past JIA Board Chair; Ameris Bank “The renovation of this historic building and the innovative recreation of the Jekyll story throughout this space, represent a new opportunity for students, teachers, parents and visitors to explore the magic behind this amazing island.” — Boog Candler, JIF Board Chair; Educator “The revitalization of Jekyll Island has been transformational. Jekyll visitors today simply cannot fully experience and understand the Island, and appreciate its unique position in history, without visiting the Mosaic, Jekyll Island Museum. The new, interactive facility is a perfect blend of nature and human experiences that have made Jekyll Island special. Mosaic effectively connects Jekyll’s entire story for this generation and the next.” — Jones Hooks, Executive Director, Jekyll Island Authority

Dear Foundation Friends, Five years have come and gone since the Jekyll Island Foundation undertook the task of raising funds to preserve and repurpose the Jekyll Island Club Stables into Mosaic: Jekyll Island Museum. What a journey it has been! Many thanks and much appreciation go to the Jekyll Island Foundation and Authorit y Boards for their par tnership, wisdom, and unending encouragement. Most of all, I want to extend thanks to you, the DONORS, who made all this possible. Someone once told me that a capital campaign is a rumbling train that will take over your life. I laughed. It turns out that after 5 years, days upon days of travel, late nights, early mornings, and countless lunches and dinners – they were right! But, I look at the people I’ve met along the way and my heart is full. All of that ‘work’ has also provided organizational growth, great partners, newly-forged relationships, and even some long-term friendships. I’m so very grateful that we were able to press through the hard parts because The Mosaic and its unlimited educational opportunities -- now and for future generations -- are worth all the work... and so worth wait. THANK YOU! So, what’s next for our fearless team? Hmm, those turtles sure seem to be outgrowing their tanks.

Dion Davis, Executive Director Jekyll Island Foundation
