Back to Tips Fall is here and it’s hard to believe another summer has come and gone. Though some parents are doing this for the first time and others for the tenth, it’s never a bad idea to refresh yourself on tips for adjusting from the dog days of summer to the busy, fast paced life of the school year.

1. Help your children ease into the routine of school. Switching gears from summer lax to school schedules is stressful and to avoid first-day-of-school mayhem, practice the habits early. Bring back the bedtime! Make sure kids get enough sleep (establish a reasonable bedtime so that they’ll be well-rested and ready to learn in the morning).

2. Kick-start the day on the right foot. Kids need to eat a healthy breakfast (they’re more alert and do better in school if they eat a good breakfast every day). Make sure part of your routine is leaving time for breakfast before running out the door.

3. Scale back TV time.

6. Teach preparation. Have them organize and set out what they need

Limit the time you let your child watch TV,
