Our Parent Place is... A place for you and your child to build relationships... A place to connect, grow, and learn... A place to begin your Jewish journey.

The adventure begins here!

JCC MetroWest Parent Place—Connecting Families JCC MetroWest Parent Place is all about connecting families. We are an entry way into the JCC family and the Jewish community. We provide parental support through classes, speakers, programs, and celebrations but we are also a place to hang out with friends and meet new friends. New to the community or at home with a new baby? Begin your journey with us! As an entry way into the JCC family and the Jewish community, we provide parental support through classes, speakers, programs, and celebrations. Choose from many classes: Little Maestros, Baby and Me Yoga, Magic of Multiples, Mom and New Baby—A Morning Out are just a few. Drop in one Friday a month and join Tamar Stern, a parenting coach from Jewish Family Service, to talk about “the power of parenting.” Celebrate holidays and learn about rituals and lifecycle events. Prenatal and up—we’ve got something great for you and your family. Visit us! We are located at the Leon & Toby Cooperman JCC, 760 Northfield Avenue, West Orange. For more information on the Parenting Center or on classes, contact Katy Strulson, Early Childhood Services Coordinator, at 973-530-3915 (kstrulson@jccmetrowest.org). KINDERGARTEN Leon & Toby Cooperman Family JCC, West Orange

PRESCHOOL Leon & Toby Cooperman Family JCC, West Orange JCC MetroWest offers families with children age 2-5 years part-time or full care options. Professionally trained staff guide children through a program rich in art, music, drama, science, and physical exploration. They begin a process of building reading and math skills. The program is designed to give children and their families opportunities to learn about and celebrate our Jewish heritage. Full care program meets 7:30am-6:00pm, Monday-Thursday; 7:30am-5:45pm on Fridays.

Children who turn 5 by December 31 of the year they enter Kindergarten are invited to participate in our program. Our reading and math programs are designed to meet children’s individual needs. There are many opportunities for science investigation, cooking, music, art, and computers. Under the guidance of our Aquatics and Sports & Recreation Departments, instructional gym and swim are included in the program. Children experience a full range of Jewish programming as we celebrate Shabbat and holidays. Extended hours through our Kids Club are available 7:30am-6:00pm, Monday-Thursday; 7:30am-5:45pm on Fridays.

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMMING We believe that learning is everywhere. We weave it into your child’s day in a nurturing, safe, and fun-filled environment that will prepare your child for the academic challenges ahead. For children 2-5 years old, these classes build upon the activities and education that they are already receiving in the classroom: swimming skills, tennis, cooking, ballet, art and drawing, hockey, soccer, and much more.

preschool & kindergarten registration Preschool registration occurs the year before your child enters school. To facilitate an easy enrollment into preschool programs, we have instituted the following priority levels:

Priority Level 4: Children enrolled in a current fall semester JCC class offered in the Early Childhood, School of the Arts, Sports & Recreation, or Aquatics Departments.

Priority Level 1: Children currently enrolled in JCC Preschool.

Priority Level 5: General JCC MetroWest Membership.

Priority Level 2: Siblings of children currently enrolled in JCC Preschool, Kindergarten, or Grade School Kids Club.

If you are unable to meet any of the priority criteria, please contact Jo Sohinki, Director of Early Childhood Services at 973-530-3479 (jsohinki@jccmetrowest.org). We will work closely with you so your child can attend our program.

EMPOWERING RUTH After conversion, now what? Every year, many women choose to convert to Judaism. While all Jews-by-choice receive some kind of formal Jewish education, conversion classes tend to focus on the “whats” and “whys” of Judaism, not the “how-to’s.” The Jewish Outreach Institute (JOI) developed the Empowering Ruth program to offer women who have recently converted to Judaism practical, hands-on learning in Jewish living, home observance, new rituals, lifecycle events, and much more. This unique and successful program premiered in our community this past fall.

New group now forming! This new program is FREE. For more information about the Empowering Ruth curriculum or to join, contact Dana Lichtenberg.

MOTHERS CIRCLE Mothers Circle focuses on the rituals, ethics, and how-tos of making a Jewish home. Connect with other mothers in similar situations. The course facilitator brings knowledge and experience, but the participants shape the dialogue as they bring their various experiences and backgrounds to the group. Join us and be a part of this warm, nurturing environment that will help you feel empowered to take on the responsibility of raising children in Judaism.

ADULT GRAVITY TRAINING In the Gravity system, muscles are worked as they are used in life—both in terms of lever load and movement. When the human body becomes the weight on a rolling incline surface it is free to move in any plane of motion. The Gravity Training System (GTS) engages all five components of exercise: body composition, muscular endurance, cardio endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility. Clients of any age and fitness level work every major muscle group in a functional manner in less than an hour! Incline Resistance Training on the GTS provides a workout and results that cannot be achieved on any other piece of equipment. Sessions run about 45-55 minutes depending on the group. Fee and sign-ups required. Contact Sharon Tobey (stobey@)
