A-level Results are out – the Overall Pass Rate reaches 98.1% Finally, the A-level results are out and students are now in a joyous mood celebrating their success. Well, this has been a sort of smacking news for the naysayers who have always believed that Alevel studies are not so easy and rather quite difficult for students to achieve good grades. Now, they bit.ly/16wBNXC have got their answers. In fact, what they must do now is put some more effort on helping A-level students rather than criticising them just like what they had been doing for years. Now, let‟s get back to the success story. The overall pass rate has remained quite static; the percentage of marginal rise has gone up to 98.1%. However, the percentage of students earning top A or A* grades have fallen slightly from 26.6 to 26.3%. Well, this doesn‟t count at all and this overall news for the A-level students has sounded quite positive. Now, the big question is, “what‟s the next step?”

UCAS reports The UCAS reported that nearly 1/4th of the million students are either having the option of getting eligible for the university system or still taking time to take big decisions. However, survey reports published last week by the Which team found that over 1 out of 4 students who secured seats in the university felt that they were unprepared.

Over 1/3rd of the students were found panicking and nearly 30% felt that they could have done some more research work to choose their respective courses and university.

Take time, don’t be in a rush, says Hallam The pressure of choosing the right subject is immense for students and this no doubt creates panic for them. Now, choosing the correct option is always better and safer than choosing something which one isnâ€&#x;t sure about, especially while enrolling in the second year when students are required to pay ÂŁ9,000 as annual tuition fees. In this respect, the CEO of Resource Development International (RDI), Dr. Philip Hallam has come up with an advice for students who are not certain about their next step.

Hallam said that time is an important factor that must be taken seriously especially while choosing a course. Although there are a lot of students who have taken decisions to join universities, rushing towards it just to get enrolled in a course is not accepted.

In fact, if one decides to take out a year for gaining considerable work experience, he/she might be eligible to enrol in a more efficient course next year.

93%

students found satisfied with their distance learning courses In terms of popularity, the concept of distance learning for completing higher studies has reached heights. As per Hallam, RDI has witnessed heavy growth in the percentage of queries that has gone up to 40%, and

93%

of the students said that they were quite satisfied with the quality of their courses.

As per reports, distance learning courses under UK universities are now 2/3rds lesser than those charged for 3-year courses at brick and mortar institutions. So, Hallam feels that where students are grabbing the opportunity to “earn while learning and boost up skills for future employability, is it really necessary for one to spend lump sums on a full-time course?

Oxford rejects the A-level top scorer What has stunned the current academia is the rejection of Alastair Herron‟s application from the Oxford. Although he outscored everyone in the A-level exam, Oxford refused him and this was truly shocking!! He told to BBC‟s Radio Ulster, “I applied to Oxford but they didn't have a place for me. I am not sorry. The university didn't tell me why, they sent a vague reply to me which could have meant anything.” Surprisingly, he was not at all disheartened for what had happened with him. Since Herron hasn‟t shown any disappointment, what he can now do is take some „time‟ prior to enrolling in a university for higher studies, and as Hallam said, UK universities have now recognised online education on a global basis; so he can easily enrol in one of these recognised online universities to study further. At least, this would keep him miles away from getting disheartening responses from so-called big universities despite having good scores.
