Want to stop junk mail and unwanted phone calls? We’ve got the solution for you.

The Mailing Preference Service is a free service set up 20 years ago to enable people like you to have your name and home address removed from lists used by those pests who keep sending you unwanted mail. The initiative is supported by Royal Mail and will see your name removed from up to 95% of Direct Mail lists. It will not stop mail that has been sent from overseas, un-addressed material or mail addressed to The Occupier. You can expect to continue to receive mailings from companies with whom you have done business in the past. You may also receive mailings from small, local companies. If you wish these mailings to be stopped, you have to notify these companies directly. It will take up to four months for the service to have full effect although you should notice a reduction much sooner. Remember too that with any forms you fill in - be sure to ‘untick’ the boxes which give people a license to pass your information to partner companies. Registering with the MPS is FREE. To get in touch, contact them directly at the address below: Mailing Preference Service (MPS) DMA House 70 Margaret Street London W1W 8SS

Can you imagine seeing the items you have knitted sitting on the shelves of the major supermarkets?

And how about stopping those unwanted phone calls? BT Privacy helps stop unwanted sales calls by registering you with the Telephone Preference Service and giving you BT Caller Display at no extra charge – simply call BT customer service on 150 for more information. Customers with other call providers can still benefit from BT Caller Display at no extra cost if the following calls are made. Customers who are billed monthly must make at least two chargeable calls with BT in that month, otherwise BT reserves the right to charge £2.50 a month for BT Caller Display. Customers who are billed every three months must make at least six chargeable calls within those three months, otherwise BT reserves the right to charge £7.50 a quarter. BT residential customers making some calls on the BT network can opt in to receive Caller Display for free, subject to availability. Caller Display equipment is required. Numbers will not be registered if the call is from payphones; some switchboards; non-BT networks; or where a caller’s number is withheld.

DO YOU NEED A BREAK? THEN APPLY FOR CARERS VOUCHERS IT’S AS EASY AS 1, 2, 3

The Carer’s break voucher is intended to give you a break from your caring role. It gives you time off from caring to do other things such as attend an appointment or training course, take part in an activity, catch up with friends, have some uninterrupted sleep or do some housework, etc. Step 1 Step 2 Step 3

Contact your Care Manager for an assessment. If you qualify, vouchers will be issued for up to 25 hours of care per year. Arrange your break by contacting the Agency and ‘pay’ for the care using your voucher(s).

If you want to speak to someone about this scheme then please contact Age Concern Harrow.

Age Concern and Innocent drinks are looking for different items, knitted by you, which will feature on their famous Innocent drink products: the small ‘One Shot Bottle’ (imagine a mini bobble hat!), the Veg Pot (a bit like a scarf!) and the new ‘Kids Squeezies’ (a big bobble hat!).

The proceeds generated by your Big Knit efforts will be dedicated towards ‘Healthy Living’ and ‘Healthy Eating’ projects in the borough.

Every item you knit will contribute to funds for Age Concern Harrow and your borough. A total 183,000 knitted items are needed throughout the country to make this a success. Knitting patterns are now available for the challenge and we will pass these on to you once you get in touch. If you can’t knit (like many of us) and have some spare wool lying around, or you can donate some wool, please get in touch.

To get the ball rolling and to get you knitting please call us on 020 8861 7980 as soon as possible.
