Tourism Icons of Negeri Sembilan Negeri Sembilan is located in the central region of Peninsular Malaysia, bordered on the north by Selangor, on the east by Pahang, and on the south by Melaka and Johor. Negeri Sembilan literally means nine states or districts. In its early history, Negeri Sembilan did not exist as a single state. It consisted of nine districts in a secluded valley bonded together by a weak link. In 1773, Raja Melewar united the nine provinces and was proclaimed the first ruler or Yang Di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. The state is heavily influenced by Minangkabau culture brought centuries ago from Sumatera. It is evident in its kampung houses and official buildings which consist of sweeping roof peaks shaped like buffalo horns. Around the 15th and 16th century, some Minangkabau explorers migrated from Sumatra and settled in Negeri Sembilan. Around the 15th and 16th century, some Minangkabau explorers migrated from Sumatra and settled in Negeri Sembilan. They brought with them their rich tradition and culture which included the custom known as “Adat Pepatih”. The custom emphasises the matrilineal system where the women are dominant and are regarded as the head of the house.
Seremban 芙蓉 Seremban, the state capital of Negeri Sembilan, is a busy town thriving with activities. It is located within the district of Seremban, one of the seven districts of Negeri Sembilan. Seremban was established around the same time when tin was found during the 1840s around the Linggi River valley. The area where Seremban was established was originally known as Sungai Ujung. About 4km southeast of the old Seremban town centre, is the location of the new satellite township known as Seremban 2. Spanning over 2,000 acres, this planned township was built with the aim of relocating the administrative and business district from the old Seremban town centre. Seremban 2 is the site of the new State government administrative offices and Seremban Court Complex.

TRANSPORTATION 交通 The North South Expressway – part of which was formerly the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Highway – has made it easy and convenient for travelers to get to Negeri Sembilan. The distance from Kuala Lumpur to Seremban, and from Melaka to Seremban, are about the same –60 km. Situated at kilometer 13 from Port Dickson, this well known beach stretches for 1.8km. It is often used as a location for movie and drama making. Along the beach one can find hawker stalls that sell food and handicraft. People throng these stalls to satisfy their appetites and to purchase souvenirs.

SERI MENANTI ROYAL MUSEUM 神安池皇家博物馆
Tucked amidst green hill 30 km forms Seremban, the charming royal town of Seri Menanti is the official residence of the State Ruler as well as the site of the Seri Menanti Royal Museum. This former palace, converted into the Royal Museum in 1992, is a classic showcase of Minangkabau architecture and design. Built at the turn of the last century by two local craftmen, the wooden structure is an architectural wonder as no screws or nails were used in its construction. It incorporates 99 pillars, each soaring 65 feet, representing the 99 warriors who served the palace. Today, it is repository of the regalia of the Negeri Sembilan Royal family, with exhibits such as custumes, ceremonial weapons, bedchambers and documents on the Royal lineage. 这座五层楼的神安池皇宫在 20 世纪初重建，以取代 在大火中烧毁的旧皇宫。此宫殿的独特之处是在建 造的过程中完全没有使用任何一根铁钉或螺丝。皇 宫的99支高达65尺壮丽柱支，象征着99名来自不同氏 族的勇士。神安池皇宫于1992年被列为皇家博物馆。

ARMED FORCES MUSEUM 军事博物馆
Located 8km from Port Dickson, the Armed Forces Museum was established to develop and maintain a national collection of historical material pertaining to Malaysian military history form 1933 to the present. Five galleries are devoted to specific areas designated for the Army, the Navy and the Air Force. Military technology, heraldry and achievements of military commanders are among the exhibits displayed at the museum.

The structure of the Rembau Crystal gallery is also a unique insight into the Malay Minangkabau architectural heritage. The products made and sold here are from crystal and come in different forms. These include table lamps, crystal souvenirs, dining ware, accessories and much more. Crystal made with the highest international standards is sold here. The Crystal village is also a venue for local youths to learn the craft of crystal making, as well as the opportunity to sell their handicrafts. This also helps to put Rembau on the Malaysian tourist map.

Handicraft Centre 手工艺品中心
It is well known centre that promotes high quality handicraft and gift items. It has three different galleries; craft gallery, heritage gallery and craft shop. Formerly a Land Office, this regal building is now the home to the Negeri Sembilan Craft Complex since 22 March 2007. At 100 years old, this heritage building is a true state treasure. The Handicraft Complex was set up to preserve Negeri Sembilan’s rich culture and heritage. The elaborate handicrafts on display and sale were greatly reflecting Negeri Sembilan. SUNGAI LINGGI RIVER SAFARI 邻宜河野生动物园
Travellers can expect a leisure cruise from Sungai Linggi from the Pengkalan Kempas Jetty (about 35km from Port Dickson). The pristine state of the water habours fishes, shrimp and lobsters. The banks of the river are breeding grounds of molluks, crab and mudskippers. Monitor lizards, otters and monkeys make this their playground. An estimated 3000 crocodiles call this their home. Experience first hand the art of Lokan hunting by visiting the war veteran Pak Zainal who carved a nook on the river bank to breed Lokan shells and cement done single handedly by yours truly. For a mere price you can bring home the fruit of your labour or have Pak Zainal build a fire to roast them or have him cut you some Nipah fruits. What better way than to savour these delicacies in nature’s own settings. As evening comes to an end, heading home you will en couter hundreds of migratory storks and marvel at the twinkling of fireflies. Leaving behind perhaps a once in a life time experience.

ULU BENDUL RECREATIONAL PARK 乌鲁本杜休闲森林
The Ulu Bendul forest is a favourite place for picnickers especially during the weekends. The refreshing and cool water form the Batang Terachi River stream that meanders through the park offers a fun place for visitors bent on having a dip. Here, the visitor will find a cascading waterfall and a man – made rock pool ideal for splashing around. This is a short and challenging trek which can be completed by any reasonably fit hiker.

WET WORLD PEDAS 不叻士温泉水上乐园
Believed to have been discovered by locals while grazing their cows whereby due to the hot water, their cattle jumped away in fright. The Japanese army were also said to have made camp during their raid of Malaysia, using the hot water to treat injured comrades. However, far from the view that the Japanese were met with, the area of the hot pool has now been developed into a recreational water park., the first of its kind in Negeri Sembilan. Although located not far from the North-South Highway, the surrounding areas are a justification of the richness of the Malaysian countryside. All the facilities and attractions in this park are built to fulfil the needs of all ages. For the brave and courages, take a go at the two giant slides that twist and turn above the pools. Be prepared to be dumped into a pool at the end of the ride. After all the frolicking around in the water, indulge yourself at the fast food outlet and by a few souvenirs as a remembrance of a good fun – filled day at the souvenir shop. This museum showcases the triumph and glory of Lukut during the early 19th century. In its early days (during the 1880s), the museum was located in the district of Sungai Ujong, Negeri Sembilan. The design, based on the structure of a Malay-Bugis palace, has become a symbol of pride of Malay Architecture. The museum is now located at Batu 4, Jalan Seremban, Port Dickson. Fort Lukut 芦骨城堡 Situated 7km northeast of Port Dickson, the fort was constructed in 1847 on Bukit Gajah Mati. The purpose of the fort was to safeguard and control the profitable tin trade in Lukut. The fort was a textbook example of a 19th century fortified defence structure. Other attractions here include the legendary “poisoned well” purportedly used to punish criminals in the ancient days.

Jeram Toi 遮兰对瀑布 Jeram Toi is a forest reservation that exhibits all the wonderful characteristics of a natural tropical rainforest. The clear and charming Sungai Batang Toi that flows through the forest provides beautiful spots for picnics and recreational activities for the public. With its two picturesque ponds, Jeram Toi is truly indeed an attraction for many a nature lover. Lata Kijang Waterfall 拉打吉江瀑布 Located in Kenaboi Forest Reserve which is right in the midst of the wilderness. The breathtaking sight of a roaring waterfall awaits the intrepid adventurer willing to “bash” his way into the interior jungle of Jelebu for two hours from Kuala Klawang. It is only accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles, and those wanting to venture here should be preparing for narrow, slippery and winding roads. The trip can be very challenging; especially when it rains because your skills and courage are tested as you pick your way around fallen timber. As part of the journey is on foot, visitors can embrace the entirely of being in the midst of the plush local jungle, and take in the sights and serenity of the trek.
