JACQUELINE CAMERON Jackie draws inspiration for design from cultural and geographical surroundings. She enjoys the contrast between geometric lines and organic forms and appreciates how interior design can affect our perceptions and emotions. Jackie also enjoys designs that incorporate elements of nature, such as water, plants and minimally altered materials. Her experience as a medical assistant further developed a deeper appreciation of how important surroundings are in the healthcare delivery system for both patients and providers. She believes healthcare spaces should be designed with optimal functionality and provide a sense of calm and healing.

PANDORA A TENANT IMPROVEMENT PROJECT FOR PANDORA’S HEADQUARTERS, LOCATED IN OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA. INSPIRED BY THEIR VIBRANT CULTURE AND THEIR DEDICATION TO MUSIC, SOUND WAVES BECAME THE CONCEPT FOR THE RENOVATION. ELEMENTS OF BIOPHILIA, SUCH AS WATER, SEA SHELLS, AND PLANTS, WERE INCLUDED TO CREATE A SENSE OF NATURE INDOORS.

6

SOUND WAVE Conch sea shells are known for the unique sound they produce. People have used these shells to communicate through the amplifications they create. Like the conch shell, Pandora brings people together through music as a form of communication.

The space plan provides different paths for users based on their needs. The resident employee’s desks are located furthest from the town hall area to prevent less distraction from potential noise. Non-resident employees are able to use benching desks located throughout the office and utilitze think tanks when more privacy is needed. Clients will typically have the shortest path directly to a conference room, studio, town hall, or cafe.

The frame is made of metal and the sides and sliding panel are built with wire to hold their form. They are then covered with an acoustic felt that is available in different colors. The inner seat is cushioned and covered with acoustic felt as well to provide users comfort and sound privacy.

RE SEARCH GAMES BOOKSEARCH IS A BOOKSTORE WITH A VIRTUAL REFERENCE LIBRARY AND RESEARCH GAMES THAT ENCOURAGE YOUTH TO READ BOOKS, WHILE ALSO GAINING RESEARCH SKILLS. THE DESIGN STEMS FROM A TRANSFORMATIVE ORIGAMI MODEL, CREATED BECAUSE OUR MINDS GO THROUGH THE PROCESS OF TRANSFORMATION EACH TIME WE READ.

16

TRANSFORMATION Origami transforms, similar to how our minds transform when reading a book. Our minds unfold as we process the information we read. Reading books can reshape our views, as how origami can be transformed into a variety of shapes.

SUSTAINABILITY The building utilizes technology and nature to contribute to environmental health. A green roof as well as solar panels reduce the clinic’s carbon footprint. Solar panels are located on the green roof and on top of the car port. Solar panels are also used above windows to produce energy while shading the indoors.

SOFT BLOOM THE TABLE LAMP IS DESIGNED WITH ADJUSTABILITY AND SIMPLICITY IN MIND. WITH A GEOMETRIC AESTHETIC IN ONE POSITION, IN ANOTHER SETTING IT TAKES ON AN ORGANIC FORM, RESEMBLING THE PETALS OF A FLOWER.

36

Soft Bloom is an adjustable lamp that was inspired by Isamu Noguchi’s Akari Light Sculptures. Noguchi’s light sculptures have a collapsability element and are made with minimal structure and mostly natural materials.

The adjustable height of Soft Bloom enables the lamp to take on a new form. It transforms from an upright and geometric lamp to an organic bulb. The panels bend outward creating a flower-like bloom.

37

Top and bottom hexagon frames were saudered together and are connected by brass tubing. The tubing is only located at 3 of the 6 corners to maintain the minimalistic appearance.
