Whenever we could, we would base it around a theme where our imaginations could run wild. QUOTE: “DON’T FORGET TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR UP-COMING WEDDING FAYRE”

Hello and welcome to the ‘Something Blue’ edition of Miss to Mrs magazine! We chose this theme because we feel that everybody should definitely have something blue at their wedding! Blue can be seen as a risky colour, but when considered carefully, this simple primary colour can add that desired edge to your big day. Throughout the issue you will spot photos from our ‘Night of the Brides’ event. Photographer Jessica Williams captured the essence of the evening, which was to introduce future brides to a world of wedding style. Check out page 27 for the full review. It was a truely successful evening so keep your eyes peeled for future events like these. Talking about future events, don’t forget to participate in our upcoming wedding fayre which is taking place in Kibworth in September. We love people getting involved and sharing their love for the wedding industry. So thank you!

BLUEBERRY MUFFINS ‘BLUEBERRY PIE’ BY CLAUDIA BURNS You may be thinking how can I incorporate the colour blue into my wedding menu however there are quite a few ways in which you can do so, especially for the dessert course. Blueberries are the most obvious food choice and there are endless dessert choices which include them. Individual blueberry parfaits or blueberry pies with ice-cream would be incredibly yummy and nostalgic or each guest could have an individual blueberry muffin! If you have cupcakes as part of the meal or as little favours then the icing can be in whichever colour blue you have chosen or you can always top them off with blueberries- this shows real attention to detail! Or you can have any dessert you choose and perhaps add blueberry sauce on the side- if you converse with your food caterer, I’m sure they will come up with fun and experimental ways to include ‘blue’ into the menu. I actually spoke to a food caterer from the Prince Regent Hotel in Chigwell who caters hundreds of weddings and he has actually catered for a blue themed wedding once before. He incorporated blue cheese into dishes, he used red cabbage as a vegetable side dish, used lavender in the dessert and he even sourced ‘purple potatoes’ which look blue when cooked so even though you have to think outside the box, you can certainly achieve a ‘blue’ menu which will be sure to wow everyone.

SOMETHING ROYAL BLUE ‘EYE - POPPING’ BLUE BY CLAUDIA BURNS Blue is a great colour to incorporate into your bridal jewellery and accessories as the colour is elegant, sophisticated and surprisingly feminine. Sapphires are the most popular blue jewel and look particularly beautiful in tear drop earrings- these can be found in high end jewellers or can be custom made. Sapphire crystal drop earrings are also a popular design however whilst the design may be common, the sapphire jewel will really make your jewellery unique and rare. There are certainly affordable sapphire earrings and necklaces out there too however if sapphires aren’t for you, then I have found some beautiful necklaces which incorporate blue stones such as the navy blue Rhinestone in their design which will definitely provide you with elegance on a budget- all you have to do is shop around the high-street and the big department stores such as John Lewis or BHS which is an enjoyable experience in itself. The colour blue will also make your eyes pop, no matter what the colour so not only will your jewellery look fabulous but it will also enhance your bridal beauty. For accessories, again look for blue birth stones scattered in tiaras if you are wearing one or even look for bridal shoes which are showered with blue diamonds. There are many variations of the colour ‘blue’ so it’s up to you to decide whether you want royal blue or a more navy colour; every shade of blue is beautiful when it’s teamed with the right outfit.

SOMETHING BLUE

F ORGET M E KNO TS ‘DEEP MIDNIGHT SHADES’ BY CLAUDIA BURNS The easiest way to really achieve the ‘something blue’ theme is through decorations and favours. Flowers will instantly bring to life your theme and will be unbelievably eye-catching especially if they are all blue. Flowers can range from pale baby blue to deep midnight shades and blue flowers are believed to represent clear blue skies, truth and inspiration. Florists will put together bouquets and displays with flowers that complement and contrast each other which achieve texture and variety. Floras such as hyacinths, forget-me-knots, African lilies and blue orchids all come in a mixture of blue shades and will create an atmosphere of serenity and beauty. As well as flowers, soft blue twinkle lights scattered around the room or placed in clear vases will look beautiful and are a great alternative to candles. You could use blue table cloths and tie blue bows around the dining chairs- inexpensive, perfect finishing touches. In terms of favours for your guests, some companies sell ‘blue’ chocolate boxes. These include individual chocolates wrapped in different coloured blue wrapping paper and inside the box is a personalised note from the bride and groom. You can also get a set of candles which come in varying shades of blue and these can be wrapped beautifully with a note inside as well- personalised favours are a great way to show love and appreciation to your guests.

FORGET ME KNOTS

‘SENTIMENTAL VALUE’ Wrighteous occasions are a small family run business based in Nottinghamshire that make and create paper flowers & button bouquets for something a little different on your special day that will last a lifetime. “I aim to provide you something that you can keep forever. A keepsake for all those memories that will remind you of your special day.” Creating Wrighteous Occasions by herself, Emma Wright wanted to give her brides something you can keep forever with sentimental value, not something that will be thrown away after it’s used. It seems such a waste to discard such a beautiful and meaningful item, and now you don’t have to! “I love the effects of the pastel colours in the bridesmaids’ bouquets.” Coming in an array of beautiful eye catching colours, these beautiful bouquets can be tailored to your individual requirements. Leaving you with a piece that’s totally unique to you.

SOMETHING BLUE

SOMETHING... BLUE ‘ELEGANT YET QUIRKY’ BY CLAUDIA BURNS We all know the traditional saying: ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.’ Whilst the something blue is usually a hair accessory or something quite small, why not try and incorporate the colour into your bridal wear. The colour blue is surprisingly versatile and will look great for your bridesmaids as it will highlight the bridal dress as well as look amazing in the photographs. If you are having a summer wedding then maybe choose a lighter blue whereas if you’re planning on a winter wedding, try navy or royal blues- it’s all about personal preference. Whilst it’s not traditional for the bride to have a blue dress, there are beautiful dresses available in various shades of blue which still look elegant yet quirky. Navy blue seems to be the most popular colour for brides and works really well with diamante accessories, whether it be diamond encrusted shoes or a diamond tiara. However, icy blue tones are also really flattering on all skin tones and if you keep the dress simple then the colour stands out yet it keeps it wearable. If your overall theme for the wedding is ‘blue’ then you may ask your guests to incorporate the colour into their attire. I think it would work really well if your guests wore blue accessories, for example the men can wear a blue tie whereas the ladies can wear a blue head piece. Again this will work great in photos and will not take away any of the limelight from the bride and bridesmaids!

SOMETHING BLUE

BLUE-EYED BOY ‘WASH OF COLOUR’ BY CLAUDIA BURNS It is easy to forget about the groom’s hair and beauty on the big day as we all know much of the wedding beauty preparation is focused on the bride. However it is important for the groom to look his best as well and his overall style on the day should reflect his personality whilst still fitting in with the wedding day theme. Men can still prepare for the day by having treatments such as bespoke men facials which may seem out of the ordinary but it’s a great way to ensure the groom looks fresh-faced and it’s more popular than you may think! Tinted facial moisturizers from brands such as Elemis are also great for grooms as they give a wash of colour whilst still looking completely natural. For brides, there are slightly more steps involved and as a result, there are more options for them to incorporate the colour blue into their bridal makeup. Blue eye-makeup can look mesmorizing if it is applied right, particularly a blue smoky eye. Brands such as Dior and Clinique have beautiful blue eyeshadow quads which makes applying blue eye-shadow fool proof which is what we all want if you are doing your own make-up on the day! If you wanted to keep your eyes neutral, you could apply a slick of blue mascara or some blue eyeliner which will look just as good.

SOMETHING TIFFANY BLUE ‘CHAMPAGNE GLASSES’ BY CLAUDIA BURNS Knowing what to buy for the bride and groom can be a challenge, especially if you want to try and fit in with a particular theme. Tiffany and Co have beautiful unisex gifts, such as their signature blue pens which can have a personalised message engraved on it. This is great for either the bride or groom and every time they use it, they will be reminded of your gift to them. Wedding keepsakes such as special key-rings are also a nice gift idea and can be made with blue sapphires or stones to keep with the something blue theme. In addition, kitchen ware such as blue dinner plates or champagne glasses will come in handy for a new married couple and there is a huge selection of such items out there in many stores. Many gifts can come in a variety of colours so whatever idea you have in mind, look out for it in blue shades or some gifts can be custom made to fit exactly what you want so even though the something blue theme may seem daunting to those buying pressies for the happy couple, it is actually more popular than you think and relatively easily accessible!

SOMETHING BLUE

SINGING THE BLUES ‘SWINGING SAXOPHONES’ BY CLAUDIA BURNS Seeing as our theme for this issue is ‘blue,’ how could I not talk about a Blues Brothers tribute band! This is a great option for entertainment as they provide live music, dancing and some well spirited comedy so it’s sure to please your whole wedding party. Playing on the something blue theme, jazz bands which include live swinging saxophone sets or smooth female vocals will really bring to life the title of this feature; all of your guests will really be singing the blues! A great jazz band for hire is the ‘Urban Blue Trio’ who is based in London and surrey and can range in size from a duo up to a quintet to suit your needs however there are many bands just like this so you won’t be stuck for choice. The same applies for Djs and if live bands don’t appeal to you then you can custom your DJ set to play blues music or something along those lines to fit your theme. As well as jazz bands, magicians are also sure to wow your guests. If you are choosing not to have a DJ or live music then a ‘close up’ magician is perfect as the magician will interact with your guests around the table and most importantly they will be able to hear what the magician is saying so they can fully appreciate what is going on!

QUOTE: “AS WELL AS JAZZ BANDS, MAGICIANS ARE ALSO SURE TO WOW YOUR GUESTS”
