July 10th, 2010 First day in London! We arrived at Heathrow Airport at 9:25 AM and boarded the shuttle to Vandon House Hotel, our home for the next 3 weeks. We reunited with the Graphic Design gang and took Harrods, the worldfamous department store, by storm! I bought adorable Jessica Simpson shoes- a great way to end our first day!

July 11th, 2010 We woke up bright and early Sunday morning to board a big, red, Original Tour doubledecker bus. It took us all over London! Around noon, we went on a boat tour of the river Thames. That night, the gang watched the World Cup finals while Ariel and I found Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and Trafalger Square around the corner!


July 12 - 14th, 2010 to do list visit Firm #1: AECOM visit Design Museum Billy Elliot!

billy elliot! July 14th, 2010 We visited Design Firm #1 today: AECOM, and began our very first project. During the work week, we visited the Design Museum, which was incredibly inspirational. Ariel and I also got 3rd row seats to Billy Elliotit was fantastic! After seeing the talented actors, I definitely wanted to see more London theatre!

July 16th, 2010 We presented our first project to AECOM on Friday, and were free to do as we wished. Naturally, we ran to see Platform 9 3/4! After that, we went to Covent Gardens to see what show we could get tickets for- that night, we saw Legally Blonde! I got autographs from the stars, and concluded a wonderful evening.

Project 1: Environmental Design For our first project, we were asked to to design a “monument� for the Olympic Park that commemorated the 2012 athletes. Our group created a series of steel panels that are interactive, informative, as well as attractive. We feel that our design successfully fulfills our brief!

July 17th, 2010 On Sunday, the group went to Kew Gardens, a beautiful Royal Botanic Garden that contained Kew Palace, home of King George. We spend many hours wandering in the gardens, and then went to Ron’s favorite restaurant, J’s Pizzeria, and enjoyed a delicious dinner. Afterwards, we watched the gorgeous sunset at Primrose Hill!

July 18th, 2010 The group decided to go to Oxford today, but Ariel, Kelly and I decided to visit Camden Market instead. There were some really great deals, and we got great bargains out of haggling! After Camden, we visited the British Museum, where we saw the Rosetta Stone as well as a variety of other artifacts.


July 19 - 22nd, 2010 to do list visit Firm #2: LOCOG work hard on project 2 Lebanese group dinner Swan Lake Ballet!

July 22nd, 2010 We visited LOCOG for our Week 2 project. It was a week full of debate, creative discussion, and hard work! To de-stress, Ariel and I bought tickets to see the Mikhailovsky Ballet in Swan Lake. It was wonderful! The dancers were absolutely beautiful. It was a great escape from working so hard that week.

Project 2: Unsung Sport Our second assignment was to develop a campaign for an unsung sport. My group chose to celebrate Cycling. Our campaign was called “Shift Gears”, and encouraged people of all ages to begin cycling as a hobby, as a sport, or as transportation. The campaign consisted of print ads as well as a web resource.


July 23rd, 2010 to do list present at LOCOG Eurostar to Paris! Explore Paris!

July 23rd, 2010 Our group presented our project to LOCOG, and we were free; free to take the Eurostar to Paris! We exited the Metro station to loud music, sparking fountains, and beautiful buildings, just like in the movies! It was a wonderful start to an amazing weekend. That night, we had our first french dinner and ended with delicious gelato.

July 24th, 2010 Paris was breathtaking! We did everything that first day- we visited le Musee du Louvre, les Jardins Tuilleries, l’Obelisque, Notre Dame, Le Champs Elysees, L’Arc de Triomph, and la Tour d’Eiffel, of course! By the end of the day, our feet were throbbing and we were ready to buy some very comfortable shoes...

July 25th, 2010 We woke up early to leave the apartment, and met up with Kelly to go to the Parisian Antique Market. Such an experience! Authentic antiques from old Paris beckoned our wallets. We walked away with priceless prints from the early 1900’s. After, I bought my first real French Baguette- and then it was time to go back! Au Revoir, Paris!

July 27th, 2010 We began working on our third project this week, a poster for sustainability. To burn off stress, Ariel and I went to High Tea at the Dorchester Hotel, an experience that I will never forget. Afterwards, I ran to see Wicked at the Apollo Theatre. On Tuesday night, we saw Les Miserables, which was truly magnificent!

July 29th, 2010 That Wednesday, we visited Hampton Court Palace, the castle that i’ve read about in countless books. It was much more than I imagined- Kings and Queens really knew how to live! After the stunning palace, we sat down for a lovely dinner across the street. Next door, at the Gardenariam, I bought some lovely kitchenware for my house.

Project 3: Environmental Poster Design Our third assignment was to design a poster campaign to create awareness for Sustainability. The 2012 Olympics are the Greenest Games Ever, and our task was to promote the idea to Londoners. We came up with a campaign that was informative and impactful, by presenting a fact about the Games’ sustainability in simple terms.

July 30th, 2010 We went out with a bang on our last day in London. After presenting, we visited Primark, a giant store on Oxford Street, where I added quite a large sum to my credit card bill. After Primark, we dropped by Harrods for a last visit, purchasing souvenirs and eating a last dinner. We had a lovely day- too bad it couldn’t last longer!

July 31st, 2010 We departed London on a rainy Saturday. I had a hard time packing my bag- when we got to the airport, it was too heavy! I had to reorganize my shopping to lessen the weight of my bag to leave the UK. It was very sad to leave such a wonderful city behind- but I am sure i’ll be back someday! Goodbye London!
