Dr. Lei Zhang, President of COTA and Professor of University of Maryland, Dr. Diange Yang, Chair of Department of Automotive Engineering (DAE), Tsinghua University, and Mrs. Xiaofang Lei, Director of JICSC, Ministry of Transport served as Executive Chairs. Dr. Xiaokun Wang, Dr. Shanjiang Zhu, Dr. Jianqiang Wang, Dr. Yi Zhang, Dr. Dongping Fang, and Dr. Zuojun Shen co-chaired the Organizing Committee. As one of the largest transportation conference in China, CICTP2018 received a large number of high-quality technical contributions; among the 873 submissions, a total of 278 full papers were accepted for publication in the proceedings. Centering around the theme “Intelligence, Connectivity, Mobility�, the CICTP2018 proceedings papers address a wide range of topics. On the morning of July 6, 2018, the opening ceremony was held in the New Tsinghua
Xuetang at Tsinghua University. Dr. Xiaokun Wang, Vice President of COTA, chaired the Opening Ceremony. Dr. Zheng You, Vice President of Tsinghua University, Mr. Xiaoming Liu, Vice Minister of Ministry of Transport, Dr. Lei Zhang, President of COTA, Dr. Diange Yang, Chair of Department of Automotive Engineering (DAE), Tsinghua University, Dr. C. Michael Walton, Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and Professor of the University of Texas at Austin, Mr. Bo Zhang, Co-founder of Didi, Mr. Yong Qi, and Dr. Yu Zhang, Immediate Former President of COTA gave welcome remarks and delivered conference addresses, respectively. The 2018 COTA Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Dr. Zhisheng Yu, Professor of DAE, Tsinghua University.

A series of special forums, in addition to 8 Spotlight sessions, 10 THU invited sessions, and 42 technical sessions, were also hosted during CICTP2018 focusing on issues that are of great interest to audiences of various backgrounds. In the Dean Forum and Young Talents’ Forum on July 5, 2018, deans from 26 universities and young talents from three universities attended this forum. As a tradition and highlight of the CICTP conference, the Meet the Editors-in-Chief (EIC) Session was held on July 6. Hai Yang, EIC of Transportation Research Part B, Yafeng Yin, EIC of Transportation Research Part C, Robert Noland, EIC of Transportation Research Part D, Jason Cao, EIC of Transportation Research Part D, Jiuh-Biing Sheu, EIC of Transportation Research Part E, Kay Axhausen, EIC of Transportation, Asad Khattak, EIC of the Journal of ITS, Zhanping You, Associate Editor, ASCE Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, and Chris Pringle, MILT, Executive Publisher – Transportation Journals, Elsevier, discussed with the participants issues related to preparation and publication of research manuscripts. The COTA—World Bank China Transport Forum was organized by COTA, World Bank, World Resources Institute (WRI) and China Transport News. Jason Wang, Appalachian Regional Commission, and Weimin Zhou, World Bank, moderated the forum. Other special forums include the Government Forum, Traffic Signal Control and Simulation Forum, AI for Transportation: Big Data and Smart Transportation in DiDi, and Forum of Tsinghua Civil Engineering Alumni.

The closing ceremony and farewell luncheon was held on July 8, followed by an award ceremony including the presentations of COTA Outstanding Leadership Award ,Best Paper Awards, as well as Outstanding Area Editor Awards, and a handover ceremony from the CICTP2018 organizers to the CICTP2019 organizers.

The inaugural COTA International Symposium on Emerging Trends in Transportation (ISETT) was successfully held during October 4-6, 2018, in Waikiki Beach, Hawaii, USA, jointly organized by COTA, University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM), and Transportation Research Board (TRB). In the following Lectern and Poster Sessions, Workshops, and Forums, over 100 participants gave presentation and discussed over a wide range of topics in Transportation, such as CAV, Big Data, Mobility as A Service, and Visualization. The ISETT 2018 proceedings is currently available online at http://www.cotahome.org/2018_Fall_Symposium/Proceedings.html and is under working to be collected in the EI database. Following the successful inaugural ISETT in Hawaii, the 2nd ISETT meeting is scheduled for October 2019 in Rome, Italy.

The 19th COTA International Conference of Transportation Professionals (CICTP2019) will be held during July 6-8, 2019, in Nanjing, China, jointly organized by Chinese Over-seas Transportation Association (COTA) and Southeast University. The Conference Spot-light Theme is Transportation in China 2025. CICTP2019 will address new challenges emerging from the development of new technologies. Transportation research that supports the exploration of Transportation in China 2025 is especially encouraged. The conference will host a series of technical sessions, plenary sessions, and special forums, including the World Bank Forum, the Dean’s Forum, and COTA Career Development Forum for Young Scholars and Students. The best-paper awards and other professional awards will be granted to the authors of excellent papers or institutes/enterprises which have made outstanding contributions to the development of transportation systems in China. The conference proceedings will be published and indexed via the EI Compendex. Selected papers from previous CICTPs have been invited to submit to special issues of SCIindexed journals such as IET Intelligent Transportation Systems Journal, ASCE Journal of Urban Planning and Development, Transportation Research Part C and Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems.
